Dear Andrew et al,

As far as I understand it the theory of the miasms posed by Hahnemann
is one of mutation, new disease forms, and more deadly symptoms. The more
the external manifestations are suppress certain internal diseases are
becoming more common but also new internal states are produced with every
increasing pathology. Many diseases that were usually seen only in adults
are appearing in children, etc. I think HIV is the natural evolution of
the miasms to more virulent deadly states with the concomitant decline of
the human immune system. So far we have passed from psora (passed by skin
contact) to pseudopsora (airborne TB). This is step in the direction of
more virulent and deeply. We also have sycosis to syphilis and now HIV
(blood produces and VD). This is also a step in more virulent and deadly
directions. There is also the man-made miasm, vaccinosis. So what's next?
Could it be a Super-psora that is an airborne chronic disease that kills
like HIV? God only knows?

Sincerely, David

Andrew:
Hello Andrew,

What is a clear Sulphur state? There are many pictures of a remedy (the way a state is expressed), but there is in essence only one state).
The miasm involved will influence the picture, but it can stay within the same remedy state.

The emaciated, lean Sulphur, philosopher type, who don't care for material things is a more tuberculosis type.
The fat Sulhur patient who loves comfort, spends his day at the computer, chewing sandwich after sandwitch and inventing machines and technologies in order to gain control over the laws of nature and become independent of them is a more sycotic type
The psoric type is somewere in between: well developed spiritual and mental abilities and a pronounced attitude to material things.(from M.Boiiadjiev).

I think this illustrates what David meant.
Kind regards, Piet

Dear Piet et al,

I think one must make a clear delineation when one is speaking of
diseased symptom patterns, possible remedies and a clear proven clinical
confirmation of a simillimum. When people speak of a Sulphur constitution I
always wonder what the symptoms are??? Sulphur can be thin or fat? How can
one tell a person is a so-called Sulphur constitution unless it is
hindsight after the remedy has cured the symptoms present? When I speak of
layers I am usually speaking of symptom patterns not remedies. Symptoms
come first and remedies second. These remedies, as your have said, could
cover a number of symptom patterns and miasms. Sulphur is the 3 for psora
and pseudopsora and a 2 for sycosis. It also suit complex disorders based
on these miasms *if the patient has the characteristics of the remedy*.

A person can be born a moist, phlegmatic temperament like Pulsatilla
and change to an opposite state like a dry, choleric Nux vomica state. This
is the difference between a innate and acquired temperament. Patients
usually, however, stay within the range of their congenital predispositions
to some degree so a person that is born a Pulsatilla is more likely to
manifest disease states that share complementary symptoms. When there is a
complete change in the innate temperament to an opposite state this truly
stands out as strange, rare and peculiar for that individual. For a moist,
indecisive, changeable, timid, tearful phlegmatic (like Puls and many other
remedies) to become a dry angry, irritable, aggressive acquired choleric
temperament (like nux-v and many other remedies) is a serious and very
characteristic change. Such symptoms become redline rubrics because they
are strange, rare and peculiar to their innate temperament. Hering wrote
that the most recently developing symptoms are the most important. They are
the window by which we look back at the past.

So normally, I speak in terms of constitution, temperament, linear
causes, objective signs, coincidental befallments and subjective symptoms
rather than remedies when discussing disease states and layers. This, of
course, leads to remedies and remedies lead to clinical confirmations.
Nevertheless, the symptoms come first and they may fit a number of
remedies. It is best not to over stereotype certain well known patterns by
remedies rather the Gestalt qualities of the diseases state. Of course,
once a simillimum is known it is complete correct to say this
disease-Gestalt suits Pulsatilla, etc. So everything is valid but must be
clearly defined so homoeopaths can communicate with similar terms.

Sincerely, David
