A very watchable video! It shows interesting human cases and overcomes the placebo argument nicely using veterinary medicine. Apparently, it won the British Medical Association's "Medicine in the Media" Gold Award.

Thanks, Soroush.

"As we saw above, in the past year new scientific information has pointed strongly to the use of a high-tech military explosive (nanothermite) in the vertical free-fall collapses of the Twin Towers and Building 7. Many firefighters heard explosions in the basements, and nine years later, organized firefighters are strongly urging a new investigation [10]. The cell phone calls from the airliners are now seriously in doubt [11], and it has recently been demonstrated that Osama bin Laden probably died in December 2001 [12]. The FBI, in any case, offers no evidence for his responsibility in the attacks [13]. The two 9/11 Commission heads, and its senior counsel, have declared that the Commission was lied to [14]."

John - please can you find out any references to the awards. The programme was dismissed by our friends yesterday!
This programme led me to study homeopathy!

Did it?! Wow! Nice bit of history for you. :-) And did they? The cads!!!

I'll take a very quick look now, and if I find nothing in the next few minutes, will sleep on it and search more thoroughly, okay?

Ciao!

John

Soroush, I've found lots of references to the awards, but unfortunately the BMA site itself seems to omit all mention of them (I used its search facility), which to me suggests that the awards are history. I'll give it some thought as I sleep, but in the meantime, the most useful links I can send you are probably (and I've checked none of them!):

News, Events & Articles | Friends of the Royal London Hospital for ...
External resources | HRI

Welcome to the Irish Society of Homeopaths

Ah -- this one seems to be the most independent confirmation I can find so far:

What occurs to me is that writing to the filmmaker or the DailyMotion poster may the most direct way to get to something truly independent.

Cheers!

Ah. And this one ("homeopathy" in the search field brings it straight up):

John and Saroush,

The person who made the QED programme and many other really good docs for the BBC including one in the Heretics series about Beveniste is a good friend of mine.

He did indeed win the Medicine in the Media BMA Gold Award for the QED programme - and I have seen the plaque to prove it :) .

Dear Carol
This is what Maria Wrote:
the vet in question, Christopher Day, admits on his website that his report of the experiment was rejected for publication precisely because of its failure to eliminate bias. He also admits that his subsequent attempts to replicate the results of that experiment were unsuccessful.

Drawing attention a 20 year old discredited TV programme smacks of desperation.
I really need some solid stuff with which to hit them back .
Cheers

Soroush

That's good to hear Carol.

I went searching for evidence or this gold award as soon as it was mentioned when a decent copy of this video was made available on the internet but couldn't find anything.

We have shown a video of this programme again and again for years as part of our Introduction to Homeopathy workshops because we could find none better - shame it is now looking a little dated.

I want to know when you are going to produce another one for us and win your own gold award? :-)

What about the farmer's comments in the video about homeopathy treating pinkeye in his cattle - in regard to that he said, "there homeopathy really is a miracle" (if my memory serves me correctly) and goes on to explain why.

What about Ainsworth who, from what I understand, employ someone specifically to help farmers and herders use homeopathy with their animals. Surely they would know of relevant research and the rate of uptake of homeopathy (oops, complexes) on UK farms.

I had been told some years ago that it was more than 70% much did not substantiate that figure.

Could also refer to Christopher Day's later observational study on kennel cough.

Better still, why not ask Christopher Day to comment himself?
