nursing problem

Need some help with a nursing problem for a new born. My computor program is not working

and I can't access my books.

Delivery was very long and slow. There was a lot of stasis. The baby was in position for many

hours and the head in the birth canal. She was born with a 'cone head' due to the pressure.

Other than that everything seemed okay. She took the breast but is a 'lazy' sucker and is not

getting enough breast milk. She falls asleep at the breast after nursing briefly, will awake and

suck some more and this goes on for quite awhile. She sleeps long periods during the day

and wakes up late in the evening. Mother is concerned but has a relatively calm temper.
If they had let me use rx during labor, caulophylum probably would have been a good bet. I

am wondering if that might be a good rx for this baby now. What other suggestions can people make.

The prolonged labour (weak), sleepiness and not wanting milk makes me think of Pulsatilla and there is a rubric 'labour, too weak, or ceasing, with somnolence', one rx Puls (in some reps) and Puls has prolonged labour anyway and is a very sleepy rx through the day - would be worth taking the mother's case as well and consider giving rx to mother. All I can offer for now.

thanks joy. i will hve to see if the mother is interested/open to having her case taken.
it was a very strange experience in the hospital. labor for over 2 days with barely any
progress. mother totally exhausted and accepted an opoid drug to let her sleep for a
few hours. the stasis was incredible.
since i have puls in the cabinet, it will be easy to give the baby a dose, or even the
mother and hope it impacts the baby through the milk.
another woman in labor in the hospitatl at the same time asked for a cesarean after
many hours of unproductive labor.
have to wonder what is going on with women who are having, it seems, harder and harder
times with pregnancy and delivery.

using they are too quick to do c-sections
not that htis baby should have had a c-section but usually doctors prefer them it seems - works into their schedule
yes, certainly homeopathy at the time would have made a huge difference and even a midwife with some of their techniques would have helped

she did have a midwife. this is a small hospital that supports natural childbirth and
the midwife, it turns out, raised her own children with homeopathy and would have
let me use it in the delivery. fortunately they did not encourage a c-section and let
the mother make the decisions. but it was a very long and tiring process for everyone.
the baby seems to have that energy of slowness about her. she is here and seems happy
to be here, but, if eating and gaining weight are her primary expressions of life, her
response is equally slow.
i am hoping to see her today and would like to bring some rx with me. the mother has
said she is open to it.

would be a bit concerned about the sleeping pill effects - even though just the one

have to find a way of determining if the slowness or stasis comes from the mother or the baby, although one and the same maybe, and thinking 'why' was it so

have no proof, but the way the labor went, i had the feeling that the mother was holding back.
i don't know her very well yet, but some of my impressions is there is something very contained in her.
a couple of times my son told me that she didn't react to things in her life that should have been treated
with assertiveness.
she is a very responsible person, doing what is supposed to be done and she
does get stressed when she is not confident she did enough. for example her licensing boards as
a physical therapist assistant--she took them just before she delivered and was very anxious that
she failed because she didn't study enough. normally she would prepare well in advance and be
more confident. that seems to be how she builds confidence.
other than that i see her as an open person, comfortable in herself. she seems relaxed with me in
her house and would have been more open to me earlier in her relationship with my son, except that
he put limits this happening. she does not take him on it seems. is accepting/passive?
so there seems to be this subdued energy in her generally and i had to question how that affected the
delivery and the baby.

I wonder what drugs and how much mother was given in labour!! Baby may need Opium.
