The practitioner may rarely come across cases where the patient gets intially relief with a remedy, but soon, say a few days or weeks later there is relapse. We have the remedy Sulphur having the symptom `complaints constantly relapsing.' But that is not the only remedy. Some more remedies are given hereinbelow and this would be of rare use.
COMPLAINTS CONSTANTLY RELAPSING;

Salicylic-acid. - a tall young man, aged 16, suffered from severe acute articular rheumatism; knee joint especially was seat of terrific pain; painful stiffness of neck; excessive perspiration, followed by miliaria; great lassitude; pulse full, soft, very frequent; went out too early and a relapse set in, with same weakening sweats; patient looked anemic and emaciated; hurried pulse, reminding one of heart�s beat in beginning of phthisis.

Salicylic-acid. - a teacher suffered from acute articular rheumatism; a relapse followed from carelessness, attack being very severe, with profuse sour-smelling sweats and extensive eruption of miliaria; very nervous, urine showed heavy sediment; desquamation set in just as after scarlet fever in hands and feet; pains first in shoulder and elbow, then in lumbar region, so that the patient could hardly move; during relapse hands greatly swollen, could not be used; sleeplessness or sleep interrupted by frightful dreams, as if his head were squeezed between two beams (stiffness of neck); constipation.

Stramonium. - intense pain in right side of head, with profuse lachrymation; had frightful imaginings, would start up, scream out; if spoken to would answer correctly, but immediately relapse into her wild state, head drawn spasmodically to one side, not continuous.

Kali nit - gastro-intestinal inflammation, with much debility, and relapse in phthisis call for this remedy.

Sulphur - complaints that relapse. general offensive character of discharge and exhalations.

(Coxalgia, hip-disease) Sulphur - psoric persons. metastasis of cutaneous eruptions; frequent redness and inflammation of eyelids; heat of head and cold hands and feet; red spots on face; morning diarrhoea or constipation; sleepy at daytime and wakeful at night; easily perspiring. when discharge of pus has either ceased or become good, laudable pus, when caries has been arrested and healing commenced, sulph. and calc. will perfect the cure and remove the danger of relapse or of invading other parts.

(Croup) Phos. - hoarseness, with tendency to relapse in tall, slender nervous children, even aphonia after croup; the whole nervous system seems prostrated and the child lies cold, sweaty, with rattling breathing; painfulness of larynx to touch; child remains hoarse and croupy at night, < towards morning; a feeling of hunger, demanding food for relief; pain in larynx when speaking child says it hurts him to talk.

(Fever, relapsing) Natrum hyposulphurosum - is recommended in five-grain doses as preventing relapse by sweating the poisonous spirilli away.
