Flu preventative/ Vit D
Take care when buying Vit D. Only the D3 is worth taking and most Vit D around is synthetic Vit D2. I take a Vit D3 2400 iu daily as we don't get enough sun in UK and the older you get the more difficult it is for the body to make it. They don't test for it here in blood tests but my sister who lives abroad in a hot country was told she was lacking in it and gets supplements.

Re: Flu preventative/ Vit D
I agree with the form of Vit D needed and I always reference the D3 as the natural form. All tests with negative
results have been big pharms tests with synthetic Vit d.
What is also interesting is that people don't realize that the pre-vitamin is formed on the skin in the sun and needs
a number of hours to be absorbed into the body. Many westerners are so 'clean' conscious that they immediately
wash with soap/detergents after being in the sun. This nullifies the benefits of the sun. People need to stop washing
their arms and face and exposed legs with products that wash off the oils immediately after sun exposure. They need
to rinse off with just water and save the soap for those areas that are not exposed to sun. So living in a hot country
is not a guarantee that a person will have sufficient Vit d even though they have the potential to do so.

Re: Flu preventative/ Vit D
Many MDs know little about vit d and are surprised when asked to test for it. I have instructed
people that they will need to insist on this and to ignore the low standards that the doctors accept as
good; ie, 20-30 in the blood. I have elderly, cancer and pd clients, friends, contacts who need to up
their levels significantly. My 32 yr old daughter-in-law, pregnant had a level of 12 and she was considered
healthy! They gave her fairly low doses of vit d supplementation. I recall many years ago when I was
pregnant you could still buy high potency cod liver oil in a 10:1 ratio (25,000 A: 2500 D) and that is what
I used for several years till it was pulled off the market thanks to bogus studies by big pharma. But my
two kids profitted from this as I took it while pregnant and nursing and then gave them CLO from infancy.

Re: Flu preventative/ Vit D
shannon--agree with you about the required dosage.
Mercola.com did an article in which he noted that our skin produces 10,000-22,000 units
in about 1/2 hour of exposure to sun. If we don't wash it off immediately, our body absorbs
this slowly over several hours and forms the hormone Vit d in our bodies for use. Given
the natural ability and propensity for such a level of production, it appears clear that 2000 iu
doses are very low and reflect the prejudice/fear created by big pharma and its prostitute
agency, the FDA. We always need to run information through a healthy political and economic
filter when making evaluations on information and its source.
Vit C is another nutrient that has sufferred the same fate. Studies in other mammals that make
their own Vit C reflect a body need of several grams/day. The FDA minimum daily dose (which
gets read required daily dose erroneously), is 'up' to 6

one of these days i will have a computor that doesn't send out messages before i chose to.
let me finish below:

gets read required daily dose erroneously), is 'up' to 60 mg/day, still way below the bodies
requirement. And while it is true we have greater access to Vit C through fresh fruits and veggies,
many people dont eat much of these foods. Further, Vit C being one of those nutrients that a) is
not stored in the body, and b) is used up under stress very quickly, the amounts needed require
supplementation for good health for most people.

Re: Flu preventative/ Vit D
In the US the doctors are testing for D frequently now. It’s become a fad. The problem is that they do not know how to interpret the results. They also tend to prescribe supplements in a typical allopathic protocol – so co-factors in D uptake and utilization are not considered.

What co-factors do you recommend along with D?

I actually asked my doctor who said that the NHS don't offer this at all. I asked because my sister is depleted in in.
