PLETHORA, PLETHORIC INDIVIDUALS etc.
This term means ‘excess or abundant energy in body.’ These persons
are called plethoric indivduals.
Plethoric persons can do the job of ten persons single-handedly, both
quantitatively as well as qualitatively. Other examples of
plethoric persons are those who have done several Ph.D.s or
who do Ph. D. at their sixtieth year of age; also those who have
done several postgraduates studied in many subjects; also those
who start studying, learning and mastering a subject or art even
at their forty-five years of age. The term ‘tiredness’ is not in
their vocabulary. Work for them is worship. The workaholics.
Old age is not a deterrent for them.
Therefore, in the absence of more valuable symptoms in a case, if
you find the patient is of the above type you may use the term
plethora. This is a general symptom.
If the student of homoeopathy does not learn these terms that would
be a signal failure in practice and it is because of these reasons
that failures are more and thus homoeopathy has gone into
disrepute.
Look at the Final and Sensible Repertory of Mind symptoms by Dr.
V. Krishnamurthy and in that on page 22 you will find the
following:

Under some remedies in some materia medicas you would find
the term ‘abdominal plethora.’ Let us explain this. (l) A person
daily drinks country liquor; does not care for food. Any amount of
liquor would be withstood by his abdomen whereas if we take that
country liquor even for one day we would vomit or get abdominal
pain. This is called abdominal plethora. (2) On the other hand too
many complaints in abdomen may also be called abdominal plethora.
Here the word congestion may also be thought of. We shall later
explain the difference between 'congestion' and 'plethora.'
Remedies in which the symptom ‘plethora’ was found are
given below:
Aconite - persons leading a sedentary life; plethora, etc.
Aconite - plethora; active capillary congestions (from overactive
serous membranes).
Aconite - tendency to apoplectic congestion; plethora.
Aconite - suppressions from fright, cold, in plethoric subjects.
Arnica. - in cases of sanguine plethoric people with lively expression,
nervous women, very red face, disposed to cerebral congestion.

Artemisia - girl, aged 18, strong, well developed, plethoric; epilepsy.
Asarum - plethoric young woman suffered for years from headaches.
Asterias - man, aged 56, plethoric constitution, sedentary since eight
years; epilepsy.
Aurum met - violent orgasm; plethora.
Bryonia. - plethora.
Cactus. - sanguineous congestions in persons of plethoric habit.
Calc-carb. - congestions: head; eyes; ears; nose; face; chest; abdomen,
limbs; plethora.
Calc-carb. - girl, aged 20, small, plethoric and blonde. ---chlorosis
with hermicrania.
Calc-carb. - nervous, hemorrhoidal, plethoric and lymphatic
constitutions; disposed to grow fat.
Calc-carb. - plethoric woman. ---vulvar tumor.
Calc-carb. - puberty: girls who begin with menses too early and too
profuse; fat, yet chlorotic; plethoric girls, amenorrhoea, etc.
Capsicum - a relaxed plethoric sluggish, cold remedy.
Carbo-an. - elderly persons, especially with venous plethora, blue
cheeks, blue lips, debility, etc.
Carbo-an. - venous plethora; threatened stagnation of circulation,
cyanosis, vital heat sinks to a minimum.
Chelidonium - distension of veins; abdominal plethora; haemorrhoids.
Chelidonium - suits every age, sex and temperament, but particularly
spare subjects disposed to abdominal plethora, cutaneous
diseases, catarrh or neuralgia.
Chimaphila umb. - plethoric, hysterical young woman; dysuria.
Chimaphila umb. - plethoric young women with dysuria.
China-sulph. - a man, of plethoric habit; intermittent prosopalgia.
China-sulph. - plethoric woman, aged 30; intermittent apoplexy.
Coca. - weakly, nervous, fat or plethoric persons and such as have
disease of heart and lungs suffer more from veta.
Cocculus - chronic prosopalgia in ladies of high rank, of ages varying
from 30 to 40 years; abdominal plethora, extreme irritability of
nervous system, especially of spinal cord; wind in epigastrium;
acidity; obstinate constipation; diarrhoea; menstrual colic; bland,
thick leucorrhoea; spinal irritation, with nocturnal pains;
temperament choleric; through long-continued suffering had
been brought into a state of desperation, constantly changing,
and that quickly, from pusillanimity and despondency to extreme
gayety.
Cocculus - miss h., aged 35, plethoric; headache for 15 years, came
shortly after appearance of menses.
Cocculus - woman, aged 26; plethoric constitution; menorrhagia.
Colocynth - neuralgia of the small branches of the infraorbital nerves,
in plethoric, choleric, irritable men, from 40 to 50 years of age,
and disposed to hemorrhoidal and gouty affections and to
congestions towards head; most frequent cause was vexation,
but sometimes too close application to business; but once
produced, this neuralgia was apt to recur many days successively
at same hour, in forenoon.
Conium. - woman, aged 54, plethoric; uterine polypi.
Ferrum iod. - symptoms of plethora; general turgescence of peripheric
capillary system.
Ferrum met. - pseudo-plethora; congestions, etc., yet anemic; face is
earthy, flushing easily.
Ferrum met- best adapted to young weakly persons, anaemic and
chlorotic, with pseudo-plethora, who flush easily; cold
extremities; oversensitiveness; worse after any active effort.
Ferrum met. - states of debility where the blood is poor in hematin
require material doses; plethoric, haemorrhagic conditions call
for small doses, from the second to the sixth potency.
Ferrum phosp - the typical ferr. phos. subject is not full blooded and
robust, but nervous, sensitive, anaemic with the false plethora
and easy flushing of ferrum.
Ferrum picricum - acts best in dark-haired patients, plethoric, with
sensitive livers.
Glonoine - florid, plethoric, sensitive women.
Glonoine - seeming plethora, rapid deviations in distribution of blood;
useful as a substitute for bleeding.
Hamamelis - woman, plethoric habit; epistaxis.
Ignatia - plethoric lady, aged 35, mother of eleven children;
prosopalgia.
Ipecac - plethora, fat children.
Kali-bich. - officer, aged 24, strong, plethoric constitution, choleric
temperament, 15 months ago had chancre; syphilis.
Lachesis. - man, plethoric, tendency to hydrothorax; periodic asthma.
Lachesis. - woman, aged 53, plethoric, robust, choleric; ulcer on leg.Lilium tig
- dysentery; mucus and blood, with tenesmus, especially
in plethoric and nervous women at change of life.
Lycopodium. - man, aged 76, strong, corpulent, plethoric, highly fed,
fond of wine and tobacco, is affected several times every year
with severe catarrh, for eight years has had ulcer on right ala
nasi; ulcer on leg.
Merc-sol. - girl, aged 19, well nourished, plethoric; dysentery.
Merc-sol. - woman, aged 54, small, plethoric; glossitis.
Merc-sol. - woman, aged 70, plethoric habit, bilious diathesis, subject
to fluent hemorrhoids; bilious diarrhoea.
Mezereum. - man, abdominal plethoric constitution, dark skin, had
had several tumors on head removed several years ago, suffering
one year; prosopalgia.
Muriatic-acid. - man, aged 65, corpulent, plethoric, indulging in much
food and drink, suffering from chronic bronchial catarrh,
complicated by slight emphysema which dulcam. removed;
passage of feces while urinating.
Opium. - plethora.
Petroleum. - man, aged 50, plethoric, corpulent, suffering several
months; mental disturbance.
Phosphorus. - man, aged 32, large, plethoric, light hair and eyes,
formerly had scrofulous affection, for which he took blue pill
and later corrosive sublimate; fungus haematodes.
Phosphorus. - man, very stout, plethoric, worker in a brewery, suffering
three months; hepatic congestion.
Pulsatilla - man, plethoric habit, subject to attacks of rheumatic gout;
rheumatism in hand.
Pulsatilla - mrs. c., aged 37, large, plethoric, light hair, blue eyes,
suffering for years; headaches.
Sabadilla. - young man, aged 16, plethoric; taenia.
Secale - irritable plethoric subjects.
Senega. - especially suitable for plethoric, phlegmatic persons.
Sepia. - jewess, aged 38, blonde, plethoric, in poor circumstances,
suffering since last childbirth three years ago; amenorrhoea.
Stannum. - mr. e. j., aged 38, fleshy, hearty, plethoric; solar neuralgia.
Stramonium. - plethoric, especially young persons.
Sulphur- itching and burning of anus; piles dependent upon abdominal
plethora.
Sulphur. - persons of nervous temperament, quick-motioned,
quicktempered, plethoric, skin excessively sensitive to
atmospheric changes.
Sulphuric acid. - veins (of feet) distended; venous plethora.
Tussilago - compare: tussilago fragrans (pylorus pain, plethora and
corpulency); tussilago farfara (coughs); as an intercurrent
medicine in phthisis pulmonalis. (see tuberculinum).
Verat-vir - especially adapted to full-blooded plethoric persons.
Verat-vir. - young lady, strong and plethoric, after sweeping a cold,
damp floor in her slippers; amenorrhoea.

(Anaemia) Ferr-met - pure anaemia with appearance of false plethora
(Angina pectoris) Aconite - general or local numbness and tingling,
particularly in recent cases, occurring in strong plethoric subjects.
(Apoplexy) Aconite - especially when fright or vexation was the cause
of it, in plethoric apoplectic subjects.
(Apoplexy) Arnica - involuntary discharge of urine and faeces. suits
middle-aged, plethoric and stout constitutions
(Asthma) Belladonna - asthma of plethoric persons (especially in hot
damp climates), < afternoon and evening
(Back pain--spinal irritation) Nux vomica - backache accompanying
abdominal plethora, with piles, constipation and urging to
urinate, must sit up in order to turn from one side to the other
(Bone diseases, osteitis, periostitis, exostosis, caries, necrosis, etc.)
Carbo an - venous plethora
(Chlorosis) Ferr-met - menses suppressed or profuse, watery, lumpy
with labor-pains in abdomen. indicated also for plump fat women
suffering from false plethora, migraine, anaemia, headaches
(Constipation) Aloe - constipation of old people with abdominal
plethora
