You said you wanted to hear from some homeopaths who have been through this process. I have. Unfortunately, I wind up seeing people having as much if not more problems getting through the problems caused by previous ‘cures’ as the original toxic problems. I am so sorry to hear that you are going through this. Yes, chelation therapy became something of a fad some years ago – and anyone and everyone started doing it. It has its place. An industrial worker that falls into a vat of toxic goop can be wonderfully treated by going through chelation therapy in a hospital setting. However, that is the only situation I have every recommended it be used. Unfortunately, it made it to the popular seminars, popular press, and eventually into every health food store. Anyone and everyone seems to do it. ANY form of detox must be done with knowledge of physiology and completely individualized.
In my practice, I use detox frequently as a part of the process of eliminating obstacles to the cure. No two cases are the same, but what has definitely worked is
1. Removing/reducing input of toxins (usually involves some detective work to learn the sources)
2. Supporting organs of elimination (getting them into good functioning condition)
3. Supporting overall comfort levels (I encourage massage, yoga, acupuncture, . . . any of a number of therapies to encourage physical comfort, good circulation, etc)
4. After elimination systems are working – supporting body functions (nutrition, supplements if/when needed, probiotics, Epsom salts baths, etc.) – this usually requires supplementing for the items specifically depleted or damaged by prior medications (i.e. many meds remove B vitamins) or therapies
5. Supporting natural pathways of detox – I encourage this to be done as simply as possible depending on the toxic load and symptoms
6. Supporting functions and miscellaneous symptoms via acute homeopathy/cell salts during the above
7. Then and only then – taking the full case and using the best homeopathic remedy for the individual at that point
The problem I see most often is that well meaning homeopaths try to take the case immediately and are seeing a very mixed jumble of symptoms (toxic load, poor functioning organs, medication side effects, other therapy side effects, anxiety over multi doctor input/failures, etc.) that does not produce good remedy choices. Then you are caught in some mucky middle ground with a few things improving, a few things getting worse, some things not changing, and an overall movement in the case that leads to another jumble of symptoms and another incomplete picture for the remedy choice. And that adds the possibility of homeopathy actually adding to your symptom load rather than helping. I had one individual suffer though 16 years of doctors and meds, then 4 years of homeopaths and no telling how many other ‘therapies’ along the way. She is now healthy and happy, so hang in there – it can work.
It can be very difficult and disheartening – particularly when you know you are doing the right things but the outcomes are not bringing improvement. Become as well educated about the entire process as you can, keep a good log of what you have tried and the outcomes, and keep looking for someone to work with that is straight forward, LISTENS to YOU, makes decisions based on your needs – not their guru’s decrees, and I know you will reach the other side.
Best –

Subject: Re: [Minutus] homeopathy in Mercury detox?
Hi Lois,
My heart goes out to you as I read your story, as we have traveled down the same path.
I, too, am a mercury toxic patient who has been struggling to find my simillimum after working with multiple homeopaths over the course of the last year and half. I have tried close to 20 remedies at this point and have suffered through all the side effects with no real progress.
I am beginning to wonder if there are unique issues with mercury toxic patients that present unique challenges for case taking and analysis.
When I was originally diagnosed with mercury toxicity (literally off the charts using a DMSA challenge test from both silver amalgams as well as eating too much of the wrong types of seafood -- swordfish, tuna) I did not know about homeopathy at the time and I went down the DMSA chelation path. I was lucky enough to be able to tolerate having my mercury amalgams removed prior to chelation.
I didn't get into trouble until the 3rd round of chelation when all hell broke lose. I think it was a "perfect storm" of events that caused this disaster including:
* Very low mineral status (even though I had been taking all the supplements, my body was not absorbing them and my doctor had not been proactively monitoring my mineral status throughout, which was a huge mistake on her part. Suffice it to say that I am no longer seeing her as a patient.
* Above Doctor also changed the cocktail the 3rd time, including NAC (in very large doses).
* I developed allergies to the chelating agents (DMSA and NAC)
* My body went into toxic overload from not being able to eliminate the toxins being freed by the DMSA/NAC.
At this point, I stopped chelation (did not finish the recommended course) and found a new Naturopath/Homeopath to try an alternative natural solution. At this point, I will never do chelation again and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Unfortunately, this event permanently changed my physiology and I now suffer from chronic insomnia, chronic constipation, as well as a host of other bizarre symptoms that also tend to be left sided, which I find interesting from your story reporting left sided symptoms as well.
When my Naturopath/Homeopath was unable to find my remedy after a year of trying, she referred me to another one and I am currently trying her last ditch stab at a recommendation. If this one doesn't work, she is going to refer me to someone else.
Because the insomnia was getting so bad, my Naturopath/Homeopath also referred me to a TCM doctor to see if acupuncture could help alleviate some of the symptoms while we were still trying to find the remedy.
The surprise for me was that TCM was the only field of medicine that had an accurate diagnosis for my condition that incorporated a lot of the symptoms I was experiencing. The diagnosis was liver/spleen energy blockage caused by toxin overload. I have only been doing acupuncture for 3 months and it is too early to tell whether it is really making a difference. It was able to help alleviate the insomnia for awhile (primarily through herbs) but that seems to be working less effectively these days, which is concerning.
Anyway, I am glad to know I am not alone as I am trying to sort through this. I would also love to hear from homeopaths that have a successful track record working with mercury toxic patients. I will keep you in the loop if I have any meaningful breakthroughs that might be useful to you and would appreciate it if you'd do the same.
All my best,
-Stephanie

It's not so much the approach I'd LIKE to take, so much as trying to do
the best I can do with what's available so far...
The latter. I did a few years of study by mail with the BIH, for what
that's worth, a long time ago. I have about a 50-75% success rate with
treating acutes for me and my family, when it's the weekend or the
middle of the night and I'm all there is. Quite spectacularly completely
cured a raging case of salmonella within about half an hour with
lachesis once...after having got it WRONG the time before (I no longer
buy my chickens from that guy!!) and only palliated with Ars and Carb
Veg... So I know what it looks/feels like when it's wrong and right.
Got alot of allopaths in my family, but no training there myself.
Been replacing those carefully...did blood tests to be sure we had the
dosages right for the first 6 months.
The difference between a bacteria or infection with a virus or even
worms or other parasites is that they are ALIVE, and if you change the
"terrain", make the environment no longer inviting, you can convince
them to leave (worms) or they just die (bacteria) or morph into a more
positive form or something (viruses??).
What I did NOT think was the case (but this seems to be the gist of many
responses) is that this trick works with METALS, too. The body has done
its best to handle the situation, tucking it away in fatty tissues where
it does the least harm, eliminating what it could, perhaps. And then
some kind of balance ensues, with or without help. That's what I THOUGHT
homeopathic treatment has been doing all these years: merely trying to
make the best of a poisoned environment.
What you're saying is, IF the constitution is healthy/balanced "enough"
then the body will start digging out and eliminating the mercury on its
own? NOT because the DMPS is forcing it, but just because it's ready
somehow? It SEEMED to be doing that, quite happily WITH the DMPS, until
a few months ago. I'm not sure what caused things to crash recently, but
I agree with you that the right remedy is needed to get back on track...
Not enough of the right remedies, seemingly!! And when I think of the
time, the MONEY, not to mention the suffering through reactions to
remedies I've been given that did NOT help, that I've "wasted", trying
and failing to get well... I spent literally YEARS in a fog, a blue
funk, unable to find motivation to do anything...and none of the
homeopaths I went to ever found the remedy to pull me out of it. I
bought Catherine Coulter's "Portraits of Indifference" in hopes of
finding it for myself and failed. It was going to an energy worker (who
I still go to regularly) who pulled me out of years of daily suicidal
thoughts...HMN was begun days after my first visit to her...and even SHE
can't seem to get past a certain level of "cure".
DMPS and other "violent" means are simply my way of saying I've had
enough of waiting and hoping that homeopathy and energy work would do it
all! Especially since that so-familiar funk has come back (Return of
Old Sx, that's a classic isn't it?!)...
Except that my observations show that the 7C has, at times, helped me
VERY MUCH, in 10-20 mins, and "cured" the complete set of Sx I was
suffering from at the time (e.g. a very bad left-sided muscle tension
problem, including earache, swollen glands under the jaw, hearing
deficit, one-sided migraine. It was fast, miraculous and VERY much
appreciated. The same set of Sx came up again a few times, MUCH more
mild, right before I was due to take the weekly dose and the DMPS
removed it within an hour). Merc Sol 7C doesn't always work, probably
because, as you say, it's not the right remedy for every situation. The
brain fog and fatigue I'm having trouble with now probably needs
something else.
What I was asking about previously, was the possibility of replacing
the DMPS with repeated doses of low potency mercury (though NOT until I
get rid of the amalgams), not that it was always the right remedy for
the "aftermath". But what you're saying is that just taking the "right
remedy for the complete case" will get rid of the mercury AND avoid all
aggravations/aftermaths? Except that this is not my experience, during
the last 30 years...
I get the impression that EITHER my "elimination pathways" are
re-blocked or not functioning optimally, and I need the organotherapy
and drainage again or, that the process of removal itself is
destabilizing enough on the dynamic level that I need to be constantly
monitored and given the proper dynamic, homeopathic remedy for the
current state. Which I'm not getting now with the situation I'm in, and
which I'm currently incompetent to do myself (if I ever was!).
Alright. I'll study up those 91 remedies Rochelle posted
if I can't find someone who is willing to enter into this mess with me.
But I don't want to give up the DMPS for now...it's done me too much
good in such a short time compared to years of hoping to give up now.
Which means I need to keep in contact with my current
MD-homeopath-acupuncturist who can order tests and other things, keep
tabs on my organ function and give me the prescription for the DMPS, the
OK for the dentist to start work...but who isn't doing enough in the
homeopathy department! Difficult. Anyone willing to work with me under
these conditions, and be my homeopathic support at a distance? I do have
Skype...
In any case, thank you, very much, for everyone's help and thoughts.
It's helped a great deal to clarify my own thinking. If nothing else, I
realize now I need to do more in the pure homeopathy direction, and have
a good rubric of remedies to work from.
