tinnitus ideas

Post by Theresa Partington »

I have just seen a patient who has a kind of tinnitus. She can hear her pulse in her left ear. The tone changes from time to time (rushing, clicking, thudding etc) but if her heart skips or races she can hear that. She has had mri scan and all manner of blood and auditory tests with no conclusions being drawn. It is 24 hours a day, marginally better in a noisy room or with a small bit of cotton wool in ear at night. Only possible aetiology was a mad fun fair ride a week or so before onset a year ago - ride left her feeling giddy and ill. Had been feeling really well up until this point. Blood pressure low. The amazing thing is that if you put your ear to hers you can hear it loud and clear, too, and it is very loud.
It has got to be vascular and that is reflected in repertory but many of them seem specifically associated with high b/p. I hadn't seen her for 15 years, at which time she had gaeny stuff going on and lachesis. All ok now - post menopause. In fact no problems or symptoms but this and its direct results.
This time I have given her cocculus - and Staphysagria if required.

Has anyone any experience of this or ideas about it?

Theresa

Have you looked at the 'audible pulse' rubric and there are a few other rubrics such as 'pulse synchronous to hearing' and such like but not sure what you are asking here - if you feel confident of your prescription

Thank you – these are good rubrics. I was interested in any contribution or experience that anyone might have of this condition.

Feedback on this -
patient 90% better after a month. Improvement started, after initial aggravation, a few days after start of treatment. I did also give her crataegus tincture, incidentally. What is left is just a slight puffing sensation that is liveable with but obviously we are hoping that goes, too. I really thought this was going to be tricky one! Have kept note of all advice given just in case butit looks as if aeitiology was the key. Thanks.
