I would add to John's answer that a patient who decides to use
homeopathy, has to realise that they don't wait until they are in a
state of collapse, or suffering major health problems before they turn
to a practitioner. They need to understand that the organism will
present symptoms that a conventional doctor will have no interest, e.g.
always feeling cold even in baking hot weather or vice versa: red hot in
icy cold weather; cold or heat of a specific part; a craving for one
type of food; a desire to always be outside or a craving for fresh air;
feeling better generally when constipated; always feeling generally
worse in the summer/winter, etc; waking up at a certain time every
night; feeling worse when they went to the coast; symptoms aggravated at
a full moon; dislike of tight clothes; the list goes on and on.
Pathology won't suddenly happen without the organism having shown
symptoms, but they are symptoms that conventional medicine has no
interest in. A homeopath is like Sherlock Holmes: they pick up on all
the tiny points that would be overlooked elsewhere, and use those points
to build a full case.

Hypertension is a symptom, and nothing but a symptom, with the additional problem that it can be undetected for many years and cause all the problems you mention.
Once the BP has been measured and it is realised that there is a symptom (although without a complaint), then the full homeopathic work can start.
Do I make any sense here??

I really cannot answer that...as far as I am concerned, measuring the BP is routine examination, part of the general consultation for each and every patient and especially because we know it can be a silent symptom.
The colleges in New Zealand teach this as part and parcel of their programme, same as looking in the throat or in the ear of a patient, or listening to the lungs, examining the abdomen.......
How would you otherwise use many if not most of the more physical rubrics in the repertories????

I have read most of the replies in the thread and finally decided to
reply to your original post, as I felt something in your post remained
unanswered.

I feel all changes in the body are ASSOCIATED WITH A CHANGE IN GENERAL
SYMPTOMS. By general symptoms I mean, sleep pattern, hunger, thirst,
sweat, and most important, mental symptoms like anxiety, depression,
irritation, talkativeness etc. For example, I had a sweet taste in my
mouth for six months before something really came on the surface. Even
small signs like a slight throb in your occiput, unexplained itching,
falling hair, greying hair, a small tumor somewhere all may indicate
chronic trouble brewing.

These are the indicators. There is a police theory that every crime has
its evidence. Someone asked , " what if there is no evidence at all ?" .
The investigator replied, " That itself is a clue. A very rare and
important clue. Not many criminals have that trait."

Similarly in homeopathy, the fundamental premise is that
1. disease is externalizing in nature
2. Every disease is attended by physical and mental concomittant sx
3. Supression is pushing the symptoms inward
4. Cure is opposite of suppression.

The final line is " Look, investigate and search for symptoms". I still
fell there is no need for a steth, BP monitor, and the pathology tests
if an homeopath is watchful enough.

You realise that I have" to disagree here although indeed I am partial due to my past life.....
Nevertheless, how do you differentiate between sometimes minor symptoms of bronchitis and pneumonia, which are repertorised differently, without proper percussion and auscultation, as an example?
I know many homeopaths consider this as just labels and names, and it is true for named diseases, but when pathologies are different in their behaviour but similar in their symptoms, you want to know what you are doing and you want to follow it properly.
To come back the the BP, even though it might be part of an ensemble of very minor symptoms and signs that have to be dug out by the practitioner, it is a simple way to measure objectively the effectiveness of the treatment (if it is not suppressive). Lots of complaints are very subjective, and even a minimal change in them can have the patient claim he is perfectly OK, whereas he is not. All the tests, when used as they were intended, as confirmations, as beacons of information, are useful. Unfortunately, too many practitioners nowadays have their goal set as "normalizing the tests results" without looking at the patient, and that of course is poor practice, I would even say malpractice.
As for one-sided diseases, maybe we should redefine how we see it? What I do label as such is a pathology that originated in the patient, as usual, but has now a life on its own, still living off the patient but cannot be influenced very much by the patient unless drastic action is taken.
I have the unfortunate honour to see many of them, end-stage cancers, advanced joint degeneration, etc,....that are extremely difficult to treat, even when all the rest is restored to almost normal.

More frequently is the case that a disease is missed in allopathic diagnosis because there are no overt signs and symptoms; only signs & symptoms are present that are considered unimportant or "psycho-somatic", and dont fit in a recognized disease state, since there is no test results or other indications that confirms their seriousness in the allopathic mind. Whereas the homeopathic practitioner considers all signs and symptoms significant and indicative of the needed remedy, whether or not there are positive test results or an identifiable "diagnosis". In other words the disease is in a functional state but has probably not progressed to where there is tissue pathology.

Treating at this stage homeopathically prevents progression to tissue pathology.

Early stage detection is done by the client/patient. Its more a question of: does the patient detect his health problems at an early stage, and are they able to relay the signs and symptoms to the homeopath. Presumably some clients are not self-aware enuf to identify signs & symptoms. And many probably identify the signs and symptoms but dont recognize their import and dont seek help.

While osmotically sodium could seem to be the culprit, there was a study done to show that while salt (sodium chloride) affects bp, sodium bicarb did not. Perhaps it is the combined sodium and chlorine which does it, which would tie up with the proving. Then again, if you are drinking chlorinated water etc. perhaps that chlorine together with any sodium in the diet is the issue, perhaps this leads to "sodium chloride" levels increasing in the body. So while we focus on sodium we should also look at chlorine/chloride. Sometimes "low salt" alternatives have added potassium to counteract the sodium, but it could be added as potassium chloride. So perhaps in such cases potassium bicarb would be a better choice.

Paul
