Hi Rochelle,
Used once so far, first 30, then 200 taken weekly, woman about 73 yrs with
arthritis of shoulders and osteoarthritis of knees (one already replaced).
OAN gave relief of arthritis of shoulder. Later calc-f given (LM5 as
needed) and shoulder arthritis migrated to fingers, then amel. Calc-f one
of the simill in case.
OAN here was not simill, but still showed some action, though not curative.

Hi Andy,
Did you form any impression as to whether the calc-fl would have been sufficient if given from the start? Why did you change to it--had the action of the nosode begun to wane, or other reason?
Thanks,
Shannon

there is such a thing? what is it made from?
it is just a symptom - osteoarthritis
that would be like asking for a headache nosode or a broken wrist nosode

Hi Shannon,
Osteoarthritis being a progressive joint and cartilage degeneration,
anything to assist knocking down whatever miasmatic complex is causing
damage is of interest. She had a few sx of OAN (sleepiness and cervical
arthritis) - so thought would try it first. Her tx goal was to save the
non-op knee from degenerating as completely as the other one had.
Cartilage issues difficult - have not yet had a confirmed case of
regeneration using hom. (if a list member has, I would like to hear about
it). I chose to use OAN aggressively early prior to using the more
obvious characteristic totality rx (in this case the relevant one classic
for osteoarthritis and bone metabolism is Calc-f (here a calcarea-type
person driving a very expensive, "status" car). Hint of OAN sx was not to
be ignored, and used it first to isolate its results.
OAN was introduced by the Scottish h-path Foubister, (had a small proving
in India in 1970, yielding picture of 82 symptoms). Here was used as
preliminary to see what it might do (and what it *did* do for the joints
is not necessarily evident in short-term *outward* symptoms, despite some
relief of the cervical arthritis. It is possible it did some longterm
good regarding the miasmatic cause of knee cartilage degeneration).
Osteoarthritic synovium may logically contain an aliquot of the foreign
vitality causing the damage - and provide an adjunct to chronic tx.
Have not done full F/U so dont know if sleepiness has changed - as she
says she is doing well (infrequently, she says finger arthritis relapses
slightly and she uses only Calc-f as needed to quell). She has not asked
for more consultation.
Below are some indications for OAN. Note also that there is another prep
called RAN made from rheumatoid arthritis synovial fluid) - I dont think
that one has a proving, perhaps it was a copycat of Foubister's idea -
probably to see if it could be adjunct to that deformative connective
tissue disease condition.

O A N : Osteoarthritic nosode, osteoarthric synovial tissue of knee
POSITIVE DIAGNOSIS :

Muscular rheumatism, tendonitis and infectious arthritis
SKIN : Furuncle in the rt side,rt calf,rt arm etc.

. I will be grateful if you throw some light on these lesser used Nosodes
like Eosinophilinum, Microfilaria, Osteo-arthritic, Histamine etc. How far
have they proved effective?
Dr Vaibhav Mahmane - Satara.
Out of above mentioned one my personal experience is only with
Osteoarthritic Nosode. It has definitely proved beneficial in OA cases
which have frequent relapses and when indicated remedies failed to act.

Knee Cartilage Disintegrated?
1 replies 748 views
A 60 yr old aunt has been diagnosed by specialists that the cartilage of
both her knees have disintegrated due to lack of calcium. Any remedy for
this????
Re: Knee Cartilage Disintegrated? From DRVenugopal [Log on to view

The cartilage covering the joints prevents friction and thereby
development of arthritis. When the cartilage is gradually destroyed and
the bone is also weakened due to osteoporosis or loss of calcium
osteoarthritis is hastened.
With help of Homoeopathic medicines like Bryonia, Rhus tox, Mag phos we
can alleviate the pain, with help of Calcarea flour, Calcarea phos the
loss of calcium can be curtailed and to an extent bone can be strengthened
too.
With help of Osteoarthritic Nosode, Ruta, Symphytum etc. the cartilage can
be helped from further degeneration.
If we can have more of her symptoms I am sure a course of medication can
be suggested.

Dear Zaidee,
I have this now.

------------------------------------------------------------------
Osteoarthritic nosode-the proving
Mind anger, unusual, violent (3); irritability (4); apathy to work (5); aversion to company (1); depression (6); amorous thoughts, troublesome (2).
Head headache pressure (4); left-sided headache pressure (2).
Eyes burning, slight, in evening (6).
Ears burning, left ear (3).
Face heaviness (4); pain, burning; pain on movement, left mandible joint (3).
Throat soreness (4); pain, left side (2).
Stomach appetite - increased (4); ravenous (1).
Abdomen heaviness (4); distension and flatulence (3); unsatisfactory bowel movement (6); constipation, no urge (2).
Genitalia (M) sexual desire increased, uncontrollable, constant; violent erections; masturbation frequent; awake at night due to troublesome thoughts of sex (1); want of erections (2).
Genitalia (F) pain, loins and back, increased one week before menses (1); menses delayed by one week (1).
Chest pains, sore, bruised (6); pain, heart region, extending to left arm with drawing pain, numbness in fingers of left hand; > pressure (2); pain, burning (3).
Back pain, lumbar, > pressure, > motion (8).
Extremities pain, drawing, burning, both knees, > pressure, > motion (6); pain, left knee, pressure, continued motion (3); pains, drawing, upper extremities (4); pain in the joints, < after sleeping in the afternoon, siesta (4).
Sleep sleepiness, overpowering (2); sleep disturbed by amorous thoughts (1); dreams of long-nosed people and disfigured faces (2).
Skin and perspiration hot skin on joints (2); sweats during pains (1). Generals pains, sore, bruised (8).
In The Homoopath, Autumn, 1981, David Munnings wrote about the nosode. This is what he had to say:
My experience with the Osteoarthritic nosode (OAN) may be of help to others. I keep the 30c, 200c and the 1M, but I have so far used only the 30c. Like most nosodes, it is a powerful remedy, not to be trifled with. At first, I did not repeat more frequently than once in a month, but experience has taught me that it can be used beneficially as often as once in six days.
In four of my cases, there has been marked aggravation of digestive tract symptoms.
. Mr M, 58 years. Pain cervical region, extending to right shoulder. The suffering was so intense that patient was almost suicidal. OAN 30c, one dose. Next day pain was bearable and continued so for over a year.
Lycopodium 30c, one dose. Remaining pain moved down back to right leg, to foot, to great toe and disappeared. A flu-like condition followed, similar, the patient said, to a virus pneumonia which he had suffered some 25 years previously.
. Mrs McC, 42 years. Pain cervical region. Natrum muriaticum seemed indicated on totality of symptoms, and was given in the 30c potency, 3 doses for 3 days. After two months, no effect. Bryonia 6c, 3 hourly was given, again with no effect.
OAN 30c one dose. Improvement followed, but symptoms returned after only six days. Patient given a supply of OAN 30c to take as required at the return of symptoms. She took one every six days. The pain gradually moved down the spine. Entirely free of pain after three months.
. Mrs L, 54 years. Pain in hands. Joints stiff and swollen. Unable to grip, with sensation as if tendons too short. OAN one dose. Same evening, burning pain in all joints of hand and wrist. Next morning woke free of all pain, stiffness and swelling which has never returned. No other medicine has been needed.
This woman had had her condition for only three months, and had refused allopathic drugs when her doctor had told her that he could only offer palliation. Perhaps if we customarily got our cases in the early stages before any suppressive treatment had been undertaken, we should find many of them as easy as this one.
. Mrs C, 59 years. Pain in knees, 4 years. Had to retire early from her post as a nurse. OAN 30c one dose. Aggravation followed- pain spread to hips and spine. After four days aggravation gave way to amelioration, since when the patient has been free of pain, and has been able to work again.
Many similar cases could be given, but these are representative. I will mention one more as a warning. A 79-year-old woman, who had homoopathic treatment for over 20 years before I saw her, experienced such an aggravation of stomach symptoms after a single dose of OAN 30c that she wrote dispensing with my services. Could it be this was the first aggravation she had ever suffered?
In the light of experience my advice would be to use the indicated remedy first. If the result is disappointing, give a single dose of OAN 30c. If it is effective, repeat at intervals of from one week to one month as necessary.
