Re: Cytokine Storm and Vit c
It was plain ol' ascorbic acid, in 1,000 mg tablets.

Re: Cytokine Storm and Vit c
I find the whole thing of "dietary requirements" so difficult, as it depends on so many things! For instance, for many years (decades) I needed 4,000, and sometimes as much as 10,000 mg daily in order to stop bruising, and gum bleeding and deterioration. After I started on Ashwagandha (and also during times when on a well-suited chronic remedy), I need none at all--at least not so far as I can in any way determine.
My own need for water has gone thru similar wild swings, also need for protein.
Which I guess is why I have come to favor the approach of understanding what symptoms of deficiency are, and what one's *own* symptoms respond to, and taking what's needed to normalize those. I find the generalizing so difficult!!! But still when I'm ill or injured, extra vitamin C does become needed (I can tell because I may start bruising again, but in any case if it *helps* I take it!). I always feel happier when I can normalize symptoms with food and/or herbs (and of course remedies are my first choice!) rather than with isolated vitamins, even vitamin C. (I emphasize that I mean *if* I have a good substitute!) Just conceptually...

Re: Cytokine Storm and Vit c
it can be difficult since there are so many details and combinations
of nutrients required. however, i think that if we focus on our bodies,
we can begin to note the things that we need, particularly with foods.
your point about changing needs should be well taken by all since
we are not static beings.
one thing that i use periodically is kinesiology to test the usefulness
of a supplement. for example i needed l-glutamine a while ago. at
first i tested strongly for needing this, but after some time passed,
the test showed no need at all. at that point i was dealing with some
heavy carbo cravings which the amino acid seemed to correct. once
the correction was made, there was no need for it and test confirmed
this. these are the simple tools that we have to use along with tuning
in and dropping out (LOL).

You can take larger amounts IF it is sodium ascorbate
Most of the research that was done with Vit C was in sodium ascorbate form
Ascorbic acid buffered with sodium bicarb (or I guess you could take your own bicarb with it, but I don't know what amount)

I just can't get the hang of testing myself! I've decided have a mental block against it.
I used to be able to test myself by using one of my kids as a surrogate, but then I got out of practice and they got out of patience... :-p
What method do you use?

Re: Cytokine Storm and Vit c
Why was the research done with a form different from what most people would have available, or would know anything about? That seems very odd! Sodium ascorbate is becoming *easier* to find--just a few years ago I wasn't able to find it at all--but still not carried in e.g. Whole Foods (which is the only "health food" access for many people other than the corner drug store...)

Re: Cytokine Storm and Vit c
I remember an M.D. talking about treating hepatitis with Vit. C on an order of 72 g/daily. The Cathcart Bowel Tolerance Curve -- the point at which one develops diarrhea from too much C -- is very individualistic, he said. If your body needs it, it can take a whomping amount of C before the stools get loose; when they do loosen, it's a sign that you don't need so much and can reduce your consumption.

Re: Cytokine Storm and Vit c
because IV you cannot give ascorbic acid - has to be buffered (therefore it becomes sodium ascorbate)
Not odd at all.
You can easily order it at many places online.
Homeopathy wasn't readily available either - doesn't mean anything that it isn't too easy to find.
