Re: Remedy, layer or die
Recently I had a discussion on another list, related to treating swine
flu. There was an opinion that all acute diseases (by the Hahnemannian
definition) need to be treated with the correct homeopathic remedy. If
*not* treated with the correct homeopathic remedy, such acute diseases
would either lead to a new layer in the patient, or death of the
patient. Any comments?

Re: Remedy, layer or die
Perhaps they are confusing the homeopathic concept of chronic disease
with acute disease?
There are some things; like syphilis .. which is considered by
allopathic medicine, to be correctly treated as an acute;
this is probably the broadest example of something which might (even a
little bit) fit the concept you mention; as homeopathy sees syphilis
as an acute stage of what will turn into chronic disease unless
treated (by homeopathy, or possibly some other alt.med which is
capable of what we recognize as cure vs. suppression.)

Remedy, layer or die
Dear Hennie
People get over acutes all the time without benefit of homeopathy! Sometimes, because the vital force is vulnerable for some reason they may only partially get over them, in which case you can get a Never Been Well Since scenario - which is a layer that will have to be dealt with at some point. Some infections are more likely to have this effect, glandular fever being a notable one, but any might. The same applies whether the acute is a bug or an injury or other trauma, whether the impact is physical or emotional. Hence some might treat the acute 'just in case' the patient wasn't going to get over it. Others might wait and see, or do a mixture of both depending on the patient and the case. Obviously if the acute of the kind that is commonly fatal, waiting and seeing is less advisable.
This sort of discussion could only arise on a newsgroup - real life makes things a lot clearer.

Re: Remedy, layer or die
Hi Theresa,
Yes, my reasoning was like yours, and I'd like to add that if all acute
diseases need the correct homeopathic remedy, or else (etc....), then,
all over the world, thousands and thousands of people would be aquiring
(and have been aquiring, for thousands of years) new layers every day.
By the way, I was wondering - what percentage of the world population
would get just one correct homeopathic remedy in their whole life? Well
below one percent, I'd say.
Thank you, and thanks David, too.

Re: Remedy, layer or die
I don't think this idea is consistent with the meaning of an acute
disease, which is, one that the body normally *will* recover from. If
we give a completely *wrong* remedy for an acute, normally the patient
still recovers just as completely and efficiently, just not as quickly
and comfortably as would be the case had the right one been given. And
in many people's observation, even a remedy that's only close enough to
help a *little*, still helps--a little.
That's (i.e. the one you mention below) an opinion I have never heard
mentioned, anywhere. Do you know what the background is of the person
who offered it? (I assume they're not a homeopath?)

Re: Remedy, layer or die
That would make sense.
I guess one could also include the NBWS situations, but those happen
only either with certain particularly nasty diseases, and/or if the
person has preexisting chronic weakness (miasmatic) or perhaps other
challenges? In either of those cases, occurrence of chronic effects
wouldn't be because the less-than-perfect remedy *caused* the poor
healing, but rather because the treatment isn't finished yet.

Re: Remedy, layer or die
I find that NBWS is seeming pretty common, and is actually more
prevalent in my cases in terms of an emotional trauma, which sometimes
doesn't even seem significant to the client... another comes to mind;
trauma of an auto accident where physical injuries seemed mild .. I
look at NBWS as something which is an etiological factor along the
timeline .. where there is some "center of gravity".. in terms of a
beginning of downward spiral in well-being.
Of course, we can't always take stuff on face value; sometimes the
client will want to create a story to gain victim status (denial of
responsibility &/or power; sympathy play..)
As to pre-existing susceptibilities .. these will generally be present
as visible within the timeline, and within the constitution (physical
/ mental / emotional makeup) AND/or within the miasmic diathesis
persuant to homeopathic view of "chronic disease."
"Chronic disease" in homeopathic terms adds significant meaning to
the common-sense term, and either way the path toward cure is likely
to have some setbacks, some acute exacerbations, possibly some
barriers to cure which need to be overcome ..
Discovery of a "never been well since" incident along the timeline is
a potentially very powerful window through which to be able to view
some appearance of a "layered case" (technically not; functionally:
much like.)
