Cough

Post by Carolyn Blakeslee »

Many if not most chronic "tickly throat" coughs are caused by [otherwise
asymptomatic] acid reflux. My daughter's opera coach advised her to go
to a world-class ear/nose/throat doctor a couple of years ago when she
had a cough that hung on. The E/N/T "scoped" her and informed her that a
whopping 80% of people have acid reflux and don't even know it. The
reflux is low-level and causes slight irritation that results in a
cough; the cough intensifies as the irritation increases -- at any rate,
I've found that an occasional Gaviscon is all my daughter (and I) need
when the symptoms start. This isn't homeopathic but at least it's simple.

Nice discovery of a connection for many people, but still better to then treat the person constitutionally with homeopathy to resolve the cause of the relux than use Gaviscon. It is only suppressing the symptom.
Gaviscon is a mixture of buffering agents, neutralizers calcium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate, the laxative magnesium carbonate and gelling agents alginic acid & aluminium hydroxide.
Sorry, but wouldn't touch that even temporarily.

Dear Colleagues

The season of coughs is with us.

With thanks to colleague Susan Terry, please listen to these demonstrations of cough. I wish I had this demonstration when at college.

I found it extremely useful.

Regards

Soroush
