universal cough

[Vadim Pismenny]

This cough is everywhere, I found similar symptoms in Europe and in North America.
This is a patient in West Germany, a woman of 41.
It started in the middle of December: sore throat, tickling in the larynx, then laryngitis with low voice, almost lost voice. Attacks of barking (whooping) cough (Drosera?). Then cough went down to trachea and started from there with tickling in one particular place (Spongia?).
Then it relatively improved with some cough left, but the same picture started in the beginning of March. Her family doctor prescribed her Sepia 30C and did not say how to take it (doctor looked into computer and said she needs it, because she was overstressed at work, had several night shifts). She took it for several days first every two-three hours, then 3-4 times a day. No improvement. I recommended her to stop it.
It is dry cough only during the daytime, a little expectoration only in the morning (white, sweet).
Worse from cold air, and from AC at work (AC works the whole year to cool off big machines like Catscan etc., she works in the hospital).
I was told by my friend in Moscow, that Bryonia was good when it just starts, then no.
Also know about one case when Spongia was effective.

Stannum springs to mind for sweet expectoration, but there are a few others in the rubric too - cocculus would fit in with the night shifts.

In Eastern US I have seen unusual number of coughs recently - most have centered around the Drosera picture and have responded very qickly to one or two doses (I have used 6c, 12c and one 30c - depending on the individual). Even had a dog with this cough - also responded to Drocera - although he needed a repeat two weeks later.

I have this crazy cough! The exact picture--sore throat, then laryngitis, then a cough so bad (dry) that I thought I might have whooping cough. Rumex 30c helped (along with transfer factor) but not quite enough so now I'm going to try Rumex 200c--but thanks for the info on Drosera. I'm going to see if that helps.

It's a nasty virus. My friend's wife in Atlanta had it and he said he never heard so much coughing for two weeks, he was afraid it was T.B. She's better now but for weeks she didn't sleep from coughing.

Now I think about Rumex (worse from cold air) and Spongia (tickling point in trachea). Also it is important to say that this is a chronic problem. It has a specific picture with laryngitis this time (this year virus). But this cough which begins after colds has history since 2003.
There were still long periods between colds without any cough at all.
But now it is so bothering and stressful.

PS Forgot to tell you how Spongia helped me. I wanted to take 6C, but local nature store had only 30c, so I had to go with it. And next morning I could hardly rise from my bed! Such a weakness and heaviness! It was an aggravation. But 24 hours later this cough was almost gone (90%). This is the story.

Hi Vadim,

Perhaps prescribing on her broader (chronic) picture would be useful?
Perhaps something in the tubercular miasm (maybe even Tub., if other
things fit). Since this comes back repeatedly in different guises,
it's not truly an acute, but instead an "acute exacerbation of the
chronic state"--and you need to treat the chronic state
(susceptibility).

You said this whole thing began in 2003--was that cold especially
severe, or were there other particular stressors in her life at the
time? (And have you already tried prescribing a chronic remedy for
her?)

Pertussis is everywhere - not diagnosed sometimes because doctors
think it can't be because they are vaccinated, but much pertussis in
vaccinated.

Not sure what you mean by miasmatic continuance.
The individualized remedy is what will cure.
