Anti-inflammatory

Post by Luise Kunkle »

Hi Irene,

Thank you for the information.

Well, I suggest we go step by little step (I should think that other
people on this list are also interested)

What you explain below would not justify the use of the term
"inflammation" in the sense I have learned it and I still findit on
the internet etc.

Is there a more recent definition of the term?

more below:

cut for more stringency at the present stage of discussion

Well there are lot of books and lots of theories of what to eat and
what to avoid in order to get this optimal condition of the cell
walls. If I were to get all of them I should be broke plus I should no
longer have enough space in my apartment to even sleep;-) (It's almost
that way even now:-))

As far as Dr. Perricone is concerned - from just reading the output at
google, I doubt that he can be considered an expert in the field you
are talking about. He is also using his ideas for profit-oriented
marketing, just as the people you talked about in a negative way in
previous posts. So he is no more credible than anyone else in the
health market. So, in the light of the above, what is the reason you
believe in his assertions?

Does he give, in his books, references to research in ways that makes
it easy to get access to them, i. e. names of researchers and
institutes where the research has been done, titles of the relvant
articles and publications, page numbers etc?

(This same question I should like to ask the others in the list who
have mentioned authors on the question of "anti-inflammatory" diets.
I agree with Irene when she says that we should not just take the word
of some author, but should instead try and dig out as much of the
original research as possible and evaluate on the base of that)

Enough for this step:-)

Regards

Luise

(Tongue in cheek reply:) You are looking at the wrong articles then:-)
Any nutritionist worth their salt speaks of cell level inflammation,
antioxidant need/activity and anti-inflammatory foods :-)
I think it is just that many people are behind the times on advances
in nutrition knowledge, but these terms are the standard ones used
for nutrition at cell level.

I recommend the books (3 or 4 of them) by Dr Nicholas Perricone - and
there are others - but I like his approach best - which are all about
this aspect of health.
It IS inflammation of the cell walls, so the term is appropriate.
It is not an "inflammatory response" which would be a reference to
the immune system.
The definition has not changed - we just know more about causes of
inflammation - and we also now know that inflamamtion causes ageing:-)
Examples:
http://www.backtolifehealth.com/Inflammation.htm
and this long link:
http://books.google.com/books?
id=h8LnpT4iCc0C&pg=PA12&lpg=PA12&dq=inflammation+cell+walls
+perricone&source=web&ots=JJWfzOI7bW&sig=J62jGqLgQep5Eqs3cSaH430Fbto&hl=
en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=1&ct=result

Well one can say that about any discipline. It's a choice. I get the
books because I need the health they help me to achieve for myself
and clients:-)
On the contrary he is the foremost researcher on this:-)
Attend his lectures and you will know how well he knows his field.
He sells a bunch of stuff (cosmetics) to make money, I do not buy it
(only the books)
He is a dermatologist - however unlike most of them he understands
that to get a good skin you first have to have healthy insides.
Same principle we learn in Homeopath - heal from the inside out:-)
What he says makes sense.
It pays for more good research. More power to him :-)
I only care that what he has discovered is valid, makes biochemical
sense as well as homeopathic sense and helps to improve health.
No,.
Nobody I spoke of negatively was directly doing good research that
makes sense.
Maybe you can find a book in the library to check for yourself?

Namaste,
Irene
