Infantile Spasms with hypsarrthymia

Post by banumathyprasad »

Dear Forum Members,

I recently joined this forum to find a cure for my daughter's illness.

She is 1 year old now and was diagnosed with Infantile Spasms with
hypsarrthymia, 6 months ago.

Her seizures have somewhat controlled with current medication,
Vigabatrin. But she is severely developmentally delayed. She is yet to
achieve her head control.

We are looking for a cure desparately, to help her get over these
seizures completely and achieve her milestones fast.

Will mail the case history to members who respond to this post.

Thanks in advance,

Banumathy Prasad

Dear Banumathy
Are you breast feeding?
And if so, do you take any products with ASPARTAME in it? (eg diet products?)

Hi Banumathy,
She needs more than finding "the remedy"; she should have consistent,
long-term follow-up, to monitor and respond appropriately to changes.
Also, with an infant even more so than with an adult, there are real
advantages to in-person visits, at least for the first one, and
occasionally thereafter. Sometimes important information comes from
observation--the baby's appearance, movements, behaviors, responses,
odors, things that might be difficult otherwise to convey, or possibly
even for those close to her to notice. Has she been seen by any
homeopath yet (should be someone with the right degree and type of
experience, or is that possible?

Hi,
Main remedy coming to mind is Bufo.
Might help.
This suggestion is made with very little details in your post.

hai,
Since the duration of the complaint is short, we can hope to get quick response with Homoeopathy, but the detail history is essential

thanking you

I think it's also worth noting that *so* much more is needed than an
initial prescription, even if it "works"! Life will go on; repetitions
and/or remedy changes will be needed; changes will need to be correctly
understood and addressed... Honestly, this isn't a situation to
address by forum...!

Vascular spasm and myoclonic jerks and abnormal EEG(hypsarrthymia), is consistent with West nile virus syndrome. ... I found this out by Googling
Dr Ardavan Shahrdar's Repertorium Virosum would suggest the following.. It is worth looking at his repertory for these things.
Main antimiasmatic remedies
PHOS, SULPH, MERC, IOD, Calc, Sil,
Caust, Cupr, Bell, Plb, Con, Kali-c, Cham,
Aur, Gels.
Might be useful to explore these remedies with an experienced Homeopath A lot of help and follow up needed. Face to face preferable. Jean

Hi,
First of all, thanks for responding to my post.
I am Banumathy Prasad and I live in Chennai, India. My husband, Prasad and myself are married for 10 years and last year I conceived my daughter through IVF treatment.
During pregnancy, I developed gestational diabetes from 6th month onwards. Since sugar level didnot come down with diet control, I was asked to take insulin. My gynec felt that, with insulin it is not advisable to continue the pregnancy and did C section in the 34th week of pregnancy.
After birth baby cried and she weighed 3.2kgs at birth. She was normal except for few very little jerky movements like shivering on the left leg and right hand, on and off. Pediatrician said these were normal and will go away after sometime. So, didnot bother.
My daughter, Sruta achieved all her mile stones for her age i.e. tracking, clubbing of hands, little smile, turning over. But she didnot get full head control even at 5 months. In the end of 3 month we had to travel out of Chennai. When we were returning to Chennai after 15 days she had high fever. She was put on antibiotic and since the fever did not come down, gave her rifile injection. Fever did come down. We did an abdominal scan, but there was no infection. But within a month or two, she got high fever twice. When she got fever for the third time we did a urine routine and culture test. Infection was found and she was immediately put on basigil. Infection subsided.
By then she was about to complete 5 months. We noticed some jerky movements that she was doing. It was like shivering, startling etc., She will bring her elbows together towards her face. It used to last for 1 to 2 seconds. Within 5 days she was doing these movements for couple of times in a day. On the 5th day, she had a proper fit, her eyes rolled over and she was fitting badly. We rushed her to Apollo, Chennai. She was admitted for monitoring. Within couple of hours, she was normal without any medicines, though IV line was put for emergency purpose. She was there in the hospital for 3 days, getting those jerks. But Doctors could not actually see them. Because it used to last for very few seconds. EEG, CT Scan and other blood tests showed normal. So, they discharged us and recommended us to meet a Neurologist.
We met him and he said this is called Myoclonic jerks and nothing to worry. These will go away gradually. But my daugther was getting more and more jerks day by day. Next week again met him and he asked us to do Video EEG. In that there were abnormalities and she was put on ACTH 0.4ml immediately. ACTH was administered for 9days on a daily basis.
Immediatley after starting ACTH we did MRI and Metabolic test to see any inborn erroer. Except for some deficiency in G6PD everything was normal. For a second opinion we did G6PD test in another lab, which showed normal.
After 9 days of ACTH, there was not much improvement, Doctor asked us to tapper the medicine and stop it. In the mean time, he started different medicine i.e. Sodium Valporate, Lamtec, Benadon and Frisium.
After 7 months of treatment, Jerks are getting controlled, but yet to become zero. Now she is on
Sodium Valporate 2.5ml x 3times /day
Topomac25mg 1/2 table two times a day
Sabril (Vigabatrim) 500mg 1/2 & 1 /day
Frisium 5mg 1/2 in the night
Vysnereal 1ml a day
Sporidex 5ml a day for UTI
After starting Vigabatrim, she is actually responding well. Her neck control is better. Trying to look around. Alertness is much more better. Teeth have started coming. However, she is getting 1 - 5 jerks in a day.
On the alternative medicine side, we did try a Homeopath in Bangalore. He gave medicines which was prepared by himself. For the first 4 days she was active and on the 5th day onwards, she started getting more jerks. When I asked the Homeopath about this, he said it was because she was having milk and asked us to stop immediately. But she was then 7 months only and that was her only food. Anyway we stopped those medicines immediately. From that time onwards we gradually stopped her milk intake and introduced Dhal rice and soya milk. We do not give her any milk based foods (curd, buttermilk, butter), wheat based foods (roti, biscuits) and sugar. We also do not give her anything that is readymade and bought from stores.
Her current development is to lift her head very little. Thats all. She is currently 1 year old.
Would like to know is there any treatment for Infantile Spasms in Homeopathy. How does Homeo medication see this illness. Does it take this as a form of epilepsy?
Regards,
Banu
