Re: Cataracts
I used Thios 6 with a woman which delayed the surgery by a year or so. Immediately she took it at 3 x a day there was an improvement in her sight but it didn't last.
I found this saved in my computer but I don;t know where it came from now!

Homeopathy and Cataracts
The best review article on the treatment of cataracts is The
Homeopathic Treatment of Incipient Senile Cataract, with Tabulated
Results of One Hundred Cases by A. B. Norton, MD published in the North
American Journal of Homeopathy 1891
This was a Retrospective Study looking at the homeopathic treatment of
cataracts in 295 Patients. 100 Patients were under treatment for longer
then 3 months. Results: Improvement in 58% of cases, no change in 42%,
Slight decrease in 26%, Significant decrease 19%.
The best indication of success is the level of vision before treatment.
Dr. Norton looked at two groups. Vision better than 15/50 the results
were as follows: decided increase in 14%, slight increase in 26%, no
increase in 60%. Vision worse than 15/50 the results were as follows:
decided increase in 29%, slight increase in 26%, no increase in 45%.
So the earlier you treat the cataract the better the results.
In regards to specific remedies, the following 3 remedies where used in
78% of all cases:
Causticum was used in 64/100 cases. Keynote symptoms: Feeling of sand
in the eye, Sensation of pressure, Heaviness of the eyelids, Burning
and itching, Desire to keep eyes closed, Photophobia, Flashes of light
Calc- p. was used in 15/100 cases. Symptoms: Headaches esp. of the
right side, Pain around the right eye, Tired feeling around the right
eye, Stiff and weak feeling in the eyes
Sepia was used in 9/100 cases. Symptoms: Eyes feel weak, Worse towards
evening,
Better middle of the day, Sharp pains in the eyes, Heaviness of the
lids, Twitching of the lids, Smarting of the eyes relieved by eating,
Headaches worse morning and evening.
Three other remedies that are very useful are Calc-c , Calc-f. and Phos.
I have found that constitutional treatment, in most cases, does very
little for the improvement of the cataract. I have followed patients
for several years on good constitutional treatment without observing
any improvement in their vision or resolution of their cataract.
My approach now is to prescribe the constitutional remedy in high
potency and then use one of the following remedies as an intercurrent:
Caust., Calc-p. Calc-c., Calc-f., Sep. or Phos. The remedy is selected
based on characteristics of the cataract or visual symptoms. The
intercurrent remedy is used in low potency 6X or 8X and repeated twice
a day. In many cases when the cataract remedy is not clear I will use a
combination of the above remedies which best fit the case.
I am also involved in a placebo controlled double blind study looking
at the effect of low potency homeopathic remedies in the treatment of
cataracts. If anyone is interested in participating in this study
please email me privately.
The government of India's Central Council for Research in Homeopathy,
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare have stated that tincture of
Cineraria Maritima Succus is the drug of choice which prevents the
development of cataract. I have limited experience with this product
but I am using it on several patients and I hope to present my results.
The recommended therapy is 1 to 2 drops in the eye, 3 to 6 times
daily.
Vitamin C deficiency and exposure to ultraviolet light have a major
role in the development of cataracts. I recommend vitamin C supplements
(1000 mg/day), a wide brim hat and good pair of ultraviolet blocking
sun glasses.
The vitamin supplement that I recommend is a Cataract Nutritional
Formula manufactured by Nutritional Research. Information can be
obtained from (412) 341-6761 or the web page is www.timenet.com/vitamin
Cataract surgery is one of the most success surgical procedures
performed. It is now performed with minimal or no anesthesia and
most patients have immediate recovery with no limitations in their
activity. It should be considered in advanced cataracts with visual
limitation if homeopathic and
other non invasive methods are not successful.
I have looked at suppressive symptoms after cataract surgery. The only
cases I have observed this are cases of cataract in Conium
constitutions. I have seen breast and prostatic cancer develop after
the removal of cataracts. I do not know if this was the direct result
of cataract removal or the progression of a Conium state. I am now
very aggressive in
the homeopathic treatment of these patients before they undergo
cataract surgery.
I'll be posting an information sheet that I give to all my cataract
patients tomorrow.

Subject: Re: Cataracts
Here is the information sheet that I give to all my cataract patients.
Cataracts: What other treatments are available? Can cataracts be
prevented?
Sunlight
UV and Blue Violet sun rays increase the risk of developing cataracts.
There are over 951 different references to back up the claim that sun
light is the primary cause of cataracts. Studies have shown that
people who spend a great deal of time outdoors are three times as
likely to develop cataracts. A good pair of sunglasses which block 100%
of UVA and UVB and block at least 85% of blue violet sun rays are
essential to protect the eyes from the harmful effects of the sun. On
sunny days a wide brim hat should also be worn.
Smoking
If you smoke please do everything possible to stop. Smoking tobacco,
especially more than 20 cigarettes per day, increases the risk of
cataracts by more than 2 times. The risk in ex-smokers is 50 percent
higher compared to non smokers. Each cigarette also robs the body of
25 mg of vitamin C. Smokers have an increase in lipids (both fat and
cholesterol) which increase the risk of severe cardiovascular disease.
These factors produce narrowing of the retina blood vessels that carry
valuable nutrients to the eye.
Alcoholic Consumption
High intake of alcohol more than doubles the risk of developing
cataracts. More than 7 drinks per week will increase the risk, while
moderate use does not seem to increase the risk.
Sugar and Cataracts
Diabetics develop cataracts at an earlier age than non- diabetics. An
accumulation of sorbitol and fructose in the lens can induce osmotic
swelling of the lens, which will lead to the development of a cataract.
A significant number of adults who develop cataracts have undiagnosed
diabetes. If you have diabetes, every effort should be made to keep
your blood sugar under control. There have been several studies to
show that vitamin C can help reduce the level of sorbitol and reduce
the incidence of cataracts formation.
Vitamins and Nutrients
There have been many large scale studies to show the effectiveness of
vitamins on reducing the incidence of cataracts. A Canadian studied
showed that patients over the age of 55 who consumed vitamin C and E
supplements reduced their risk of developing cataracts by over 50%. A
double blind study involving 30,000 patients performed at the
University of Helsinki also demonstrated the beneficial effects of
vitamins.
Glutathione
Loss of glutathione occurs in all forms of cataracts. Since 1912,
researches have shown that reduced levels of glutathione precedes the
development of cataracts. With increasing age the levels of glutathione
content of the human lens decreases by 4 to 14 times. Glutathione
supplements are available but it is questioned weather this large
molecule can pass through the digestive tract. N-acetyl-cysteine, a
stable amino acid, has been shown to raise the levels of glutathione.
Cysteine is found in protein rich eggs. Completely avoiding eggs may
rob the body of this amino acid which may have anti cataract
properties.
Vitamin C
The lens of the human eye is bathed in a vitamin C rich aqueous
solution which is 30 times more concentrate than the human blood. It
appears that this vitamin C acts as an ultraviolet filter preventing
the harmful effects of ultraviolet light. With age the levels of
vitamin C begin to decrease and this may contribute to the formation of
the senile cataract. There are several studies which have shown that
high dosages of vitamin C (1000 mg/ day) will reverse the development
of some cataracts.
Riboflavin (Vitamin B2)
Riboflavin helps to make a substance called flavine adenine dinuceotide
which is necessary for the production of glutathione. High levels of
glutathione have been shown to keep the human lens clear and prevent
the development of cataracts. In one study, 81 percent of patients with
cataracts were deficient in riboflavin.
Homeopathy
Homeopathy is scientific method of therapy based on the principle of
stimulating the body's own healing processes in order to accomplish
cure. The basic system was devised and verified by Samuel Hahnemann, a
German physician, nearly 200 years ago. Homeopathy's astounding success
rates in both chronic and acute diseases has resulted in not only
standing the test of time, but rapidly achieving widespread acceptance
in Europe, India and
South America.
In Homeopathy ("homeo-" means "similar"), each of us is a total.
Complete individual, no aspect of which can be separated from any
other. To be effective, any valid therapy must be based on a deep
understanding of and respect for the uniqueness of each individual. In
Homeopathy each patient is evaluated as a whole person- mental,
emotional and physical. The prescribing remedy is based on the unique
patterns found on all three levels. This means that each person is
given a remedy that will stimulate their particular body to heal. Ten
people with Cataracts might receive ten different homeopathic
remedies.
Homeopathy has been carefully researched and its effectiveness has been
reported in the following well respected national medical journals:
Jacobs J, Treatment of Acute Childhood Diarrhea with Homeopathic
Medication.
Pediatrics 1994; 93:719-7255, Reilly DT , Is Homeopathy a Placebo
Response?
Lancet 1986; Oct: 881-886 and Kleijnen J, Clinical Trails of Homeopathy.
British Medical Journal 1991; 302: 315-323.
Homeopathy can be a valuable adjunct in your treatment of Cataracts.

Cineraria has long been used for cataracts. It seems most effective in
immature cataracts during whose treatment some to marked improvement
can be
observed as crystalization of the lens is undone.
It was originally used as a succus or fresh plant extract. However the
forms
available are now usually either the mother tincture or D3 eye drops.
The
former is used diluted in boiled and cooled potable water at the
dilution of
one to two drops in an eyebath of water. The affected eye is bathed
once or
twice daily.
Please note that other remedies might be used constitutionally or even
locally concurrently.

I would like to add that I recommended the mother tincture to someone
once
and got abused because it stung so even though they had diluted it well
with
boiled water. Therefore a herbal fluid extract which would be
manufactured
without the use of alcohol, and not preserved with alcohol, would be a
better bet.
You can blame me for putting you in touch with him!

Simon
F. W. Payne reports this case of cataract: Right eye partially
affected and left practically useless for vision with bruised, sore,
smarting, burning, itching and stinging sensation, at intervals,
suddenly, sensation as if pepper had been thrown into it, causing
scalding lachrymation and spasm of the lids.
These spells were worse in evening. Burning dryness as if a stick
under lid scratching eyeball. Flickering before left eye, blue and green
rings, green halo round gas-jet at times. Slight irritation of
conjunctiva and tendency of lids to adhere. Worse by warmth, on warm
days, by artificial light.
Patient nervous, tremulous, impatient, worse by mental emotion.
chorea jerking of individual muscles. Zinc 200c, given occasionally,
steadily improved the case. In six months right eye was quite clear and
the left steadily gaining. Eleven years later vision was practically
perfect, though some small streaks could still be found in the left

affinity for the crytalline lens. its usually needed at some stage in
every
case - especially if have varicose veins, piles or if htere is a lot of
'sag' especialy in females.
Calc carb - esp in the beginning of hard cataract. Phadiosclerotic type
with concentric opacity.
Phos - cloudy film on the eye or nucleus. vision better in dim light.
Euph - ext or internal capsular opacity.
Coloc - soft cataract
Can Sat - corneal opacity. pianful presure from front to back.
Secale - cataracts with fine peripheral filaments iwt untidy
distribution of
filaments.
Nat mur - irregular distribution of peripheral filaments.
Mag Carb - large irregularly distributed filaments, thick at base. can
see
best in bright daylight
I gave cataract nosode in a 30 & calc fluor to my mum & think it has
helped,
but not sure - perhaps she's just got used to it!
Also gave to my dad a few months ago, but they have called him back to
do
the operation, altho its in its infancy, but apparently that's when they
prefer to operate as its easier.

They are many different types of cataracts, it is a big subject.
Homeopathy helps up to the point that there is a degeneration and you
have
to talk to an ophthalmologist to know that.
I suggest you read Essentials of Diseases of the Eye by Norton which is
quite comprehensive.
He says that “after degeneration of the lens-fibres has taken place, no
remedy will be found of avail in restoring its lost transparency and
improving the sight.” Hence operation...
...
The book I suggest is worth having. Not only for the remedies but it
explains most of the diseases of the eyes.

Just to report for those who remember this one that after 5/6 months on
Thios 6x the patient has stopped taking it and reports that she can see
as
well as she used to be able to before the cataracts which were done 3
years
ago started thickening up. Am still waiting for it to be ratified by her
optician but she will have to go back to where she used to live for a
visit
to see him and has no plans to do so at the minute. He actually gave her
forms etc to see a consultant to have then lasered again.

Homeopathy and Cataracts
The best review article on the treatment of cataracts is The Homeopathic
Treatment of Incipient Senile Cataract, with Tabulated Results of One
Hundred Cases by A. B. Norton, MD published in the North American
Journal of Homeopathy 1891
This was a Retrospective Study looking at the homeopathic treatment of
cataracts in 295 Patients. 100 Patients were under treatment for longer
then 3 months. Results: Improvement in 58% of cases, no change in 42% ,
Slight decrease in 26%, Significant decrease 19%.
So
the earlier you treat the cataract the better the results.
In regards to specific remedies, the following 3 remedies where used in
78% of all cases:
Causticum was used in 64/100 cases. Keynote symptoms: Feeling of sand in
the eye, Sensation of pressure, Heaviness of the eyelids, Burning and
itching, Desire to keep eyes closed, Photophobia, Flashes of light
Calc- p. was used in 15/100 cases. Symptoms: Headaches esp. of the right
side, Pain around the right eye, Tired feeling around the right eye,
Stiff and weak feeling in the eyes
Sepia was used in 9/100 cases. Symptoms: Eyes feel weak, Worse towards
evening, Better middle of the day, Sharp pains in the eyes, Heaviness of
the lids, Twitching of the lids, Smarting of the eyes relieved by
eating, Headaches worse morning and evening.
Three other remedies that are very useful are Calc-c , Calc-f. and Phos.
I have found that constitutional treatment, in most cases, does very
little for the improvement of the cataract. I have followed patients for
several years on good constitutional treatment without observing any
improvement in their vision or resolution of their cataract.
The
intercurrent remedy is used in low potency 6X or 8X and repeated twice a
day. In many cases when the cataract remedy is not clear I will use a
combination of the above remedies which best fit the case.
I am also involved in a placebo controlled double blind study looking at
the effect of low potency homeopathic remedies in the treatment of
cataracts. If anyone is interested in participating in this study please
email me privately.
The government of India's Central Council for Research in Homeopathy,
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare have stated that tincture of
Cineraria Maritima Succus is the drug of choice which prevents the
development of cataract. I have limited experience with this product but
I am using it on several patients and I hope to present my results. The
recommended therapy is 1 to 2 drops in the eye, 3 to 6 times daily.
Vitamin C deficiency and exposure to ultraviolet light have a major role
in the development of cataracts. I recommend vitamin C supplements (1000
mg/day), a wide brim hat and good pair of ultraviolet blocking sun
glasses. The vitamin supplement that I recommend is a Cataract
Nutritional Formula manufactured by Nutritional Research. Information
can be obtained from (412) 341-6761 or the web page is
www.timenet.com/vitamin
Cataract surgery is one of the most success surgical procedures
performed. It is now performed with minimal or no anesthesia and most
patients have immediate recovery with no limitations in their activity.
It should be considered in advanced cataracts with visual limitation if
homeopathic and other non invasive methods are not successful.

I seem to remember a discussion re:cateracts some time ago
I just came across this and thought it was worth mentioning
from Murphy's MM-Zinc
atb
Simon
Eleven years later vision was practically
perfect, though some small streaks could still be found in the left
lens.

Welcome.
I was told that Immature Cataract Nosode given weekly or monthly as you
judge fit is good, but i dont know what potency - sorry!. + change diet
(dont know what to!) & take appropriate remedies in low potency for
along

does it will be very slow.
