This is a great approach.
NEVER USE THIS DE !
IT IS VERY DAMAGING TO THE GUT LINING, THE LUNGS (when groomed) AND
WHATEVER ELSE IT CONTACTS (INCLUDING FLEAS - BUT THE COST IS TOO HIGH)
Oops sorry about the capsloc.

DE does the same damage to gut lining and lungs that it does to fleas
and parasites.
Stick with the brewer's yeast.

Just to clarify, I was not suggesting to use DE on the animals. But
it's useful for killing the ones that are already making themselves at
home in couch, blankets, rug, vacuum cleaner. I tuck it into an
out-of-the-way corner--*under* the couch cushion; or at the *foot* of
my bed (the cats don't sleep there BTW; only my feet) underneath the
sheet; etc. Once the fleas have been gone for a couple of weeks, I
vacuum it up. Fleas travel and explore. I've found this to work just
fine, with no need to spread it far and wide, no need to get it
anywhere that an animal's face or my own will be, just tucked in
between and underneath, in a smallish but strategically located area
for burrowing fleas to find. I guess another possibility would be to
rely on vacuuming more thoroughly than I tend to, and emptying the
cannister more promptly. On one glorious occasion I managed to
vacuum up fleas from the downstairs, then vacuumed upstairs, left the
vacuum up there for several days--et voila, now we had fleas upstairs
too! Yuk... I used to put a bit of flea collar into the cannister to
prevent that, but I like the little bit of DE much better.

Only rat fleas hop off the animal to lay eggs. Cat and dog fleas HAVE
to stay on the animal or they die.
They stay on the cat or dog where they spend all their time eating
having sex and laying eggs which drop off.
The only way yo might interrupt them is if you put DE under the

Eggs hatch and the larvae would be vulnerable. They travel down and
to darkness by 18 inches or more. You have a small window of

DE may be too fine not to get through the cannister air holes

I suck up a little piece of recycled cotton (from vitamin bottle) dampened with lavender essence or pine essence into the vacuum cleaner before vacuuming the house (or the half that I manage to get done any one time). We have never had flea infestations since I started doing that. I used to use a moth ball, but this is MUCH nicer. Teresa (Northern VA)
