lifting nail
lifting nail
My sister in law has nails that are lifting and underneath it looks like a proliferation of skin growing underneath.
A fungus infection has been ruled out and next week she is having 3 days of allergy tests as they wonder if she is allergic to something.
Any ideas as to what rubrics I could use as I have searched and can't find anything relevant.
Thanks

Re: lifting nail
Rochelle, especially if these are toenails, two other possible causes are trauma to the nails and psoriasis.... Rosemary

Re: lifting nail
Hi Rochelle,
I wonder whether this would be relevant? (I think it mostly means
scar tissue, but ??)
Skin; GRANULATIONS, PROUD FLESH, EXUBERANT (7) : calen., chir-f.,
loxo-r., nit-ac., sabin., Sil., thuj.
Is it *all* of the nails, evenly? Can she think of *anything* that
happened that could explain it--put her hands in anything, or ?

Re: lifting nail
It's fingernails only and psoriasis has been suggested.

Re: lifting nail
Dear Shannon
No it is not scar tissue. Looks like my fungus toenails
It is all fingernails but the thumb is the worst and is actually discoloured, a blue green colour. Personally I think it is to do with having gel nails for 6 years!!! Her manicurist soaked them off every now and again with acetone - I wonder? She can't put it down to anything in particular.

Re: lifting nail
But is exfoliation not when pieces of nail come off it, is if they were loose skin?

Re: lifting nail
Exfoliation means peeling away or rubbing away. Her nails are strong. They are not falling out either!! So it is back to the drawing board.
