Candidiasis- food regime- Liz Lahor
Candidiasis- food regime- Liz Lahor
Candida diet - This is for 6 weeks
Candida Causes
* Excessive sugar, multiple courses of antibiotics / Prednisolone, Becatide or Rhinacort, Food allergies, HRT, Oral Contraceptive Pill.
Symptoms
* Fatigue, Confusion, Depression, Emotional ups and downs, Sugar cravings, muscle aches, Bloating / Excess wind, Itching skin / especially Thrush, Bowel disturbances = diarrhoea or constipation, unformed stools.
Diet Advice
* Avoid; all sugars in cakes, sweets, biscuits etc. Avoid canned foods with sugar added. Check food packets for added sugar content-not naturally occurring sugars in foods. Sugar is glucose and sucrose, or cane sugar or can also be called organic sugar added to food, not naturally occurring sugars in foods. Buy sugar free chocolates sweetened with XylitolT or fructose - available Health Food shops or supermarket health food section.
* No breads with yeast = buy yeast free and sugar free bread= try flat pita breads / mountain bread / eat only no yeast / no sugar, rice biscuits, crackers, etc. Try Corn Thins, Rice Cakes, and rice crackers with no sugar or yeast added.
* No vegemite or yeast in foods. Try organic cashew spread / MelroseT make macadamia spread and pistachio spreads which are yummy. Also try sugar free strawberry jam?
* NO HONEY or malt because it digests in the lower gut and ferments like sugar. Rice malt as a sweetener is allowed. Try sweetening with apple concentrate. OR try XylitolT, this is an OK sugar alternative, and can be put in food, for e.g. porridge; and can be used in cooking biscuits and cakes. NB: Soya milk has malt.
* Buy sugar free muesli /cereals - without dried fruit as well. Sultanas have yeast.
* No Soya sauce OR TAMARI or sauces high in sugar = try BraggsT a non- fermented Soya sauce, available at most health food stores, tastes like Soya sauce. Braggs has no yeast in it.
* No alcohol OTHER than sake or vodka or gin (because they are distilled and have no yeast,) and try Soda instead of Tonic water. Tonic has sugar in it. Cranberry juice with no sugar added and vodka is a great drink. Sugar free Tonic water or CokeT is allowed.
* Especially stay away from high yeast beer and wine.
* No fruit OTHER than bananas / apples or pears.
* Strawberries and citrus in small doses are OK, e.g. one orange a day or the strawberry jam; or lime in a drink.
* No pineapple / watermelon / avocado / paw paw / mango, because they are high in yeast under their skins. No Kiwi fruit. No dried fruit.
* No fermented cheeses = brie, camembert etc. because they are high in yeast.
* No fermented meats = salami / ham etc. because they are high in yeast.
* No mushrooms because they are high in yeast.
Supplies can be bought from good health food shops. Most good bread shops now stock yeast free / sugar free sour dough breads.

Hi Rochelle,
I do not understand the yeast part of the diet.
Surely Candida and the yeast in foods are not the same?
From what **I** remember it should rather be the other way around: the
yeast in the food should compete with the Candida for their food and
thus inhibit the Candida (?)

Hi Luise,
What I have read--no experience with testing it!--is that many people
with candida have developed *allergy* to yeast; but others say that
someone with candida *should* eat nutritional yeast, because it's so
strengthening etc. So I suppose once again, "It depends"??

Neither is correct:
The idea of avoiding yeast is an old wives tale.
But there is also no competition from yeast that is eaten. Yeast that is
eaten is as dead as the muscle meat you eat.
There is no fear of a sheep growing inside you after you eat meat from one.
Nor is there any chance of a yeast coming alive inside you if you eat
yeast as a food. It's just good protein and vitamins.
Namaste,

Re: Candidiasis- food regime- Liz Lahor
Dear Rochelle,
Why do you say this?
Or is it Liz's diet in which case I wonder why she said it!
Either way it is NOT a diet to pay any heed to in my view..... not if you
want to get rid of Candida that is.
I can understand a "no breads at all" suggestion as bread will shoot blood
glucose up and help the candida.
But you seem to be anti-yeast, so I am asking why.
After all yeast is excellent food, with good protein and B vitamins, low
carbohydrate - and helps cells become resistant to candida as it
strengthens cell walls.
Have you perhaps fallen victim to the old wives tale that people with
"yeast" infections should not eat yeast?
I assure you there is no connection.
The yeast is digested and feeds the person not the candida. Candida ONLY
eats sugar, and yeast food does not supply it.
Again - this has no logic to it. These products are low carb and high
nutrient - both beneficial factors in getting rid of candida.
Sugar free usually means artifcially sweetened.
It is not true that this will keep down your blood sugar. In fact the body
responds to the TASTE of sweetness, by producing insulin - so that eating
artificial sweeteners actually *encourages* insulin resistance and thus
type-2 diabetes - in which the blood sugar is HIGH - opposite of what is
wanted here for candida.
Fermentation is not relevant. It is the level of glucose (sugar) in the
blood that is relevant.
Some forms of fermentation in the gut are extremely beneficial. For
edxap;le gut bacgteria ferment rice btran to make propionate, butyrate,
and acetate, which are all nutrients to support the system, they are short
chain fatty acids.
In general, fermentation is a process whereby micro-organisms CONSUME
sugar as fuel, thus reducing the sugar for absorption through gut wall
(assuming we are talking of fermentation in the gut) - so if anything
fermented product would be a good thing in candida compared with an
unfermented product:-)
However most fermented products have too much carbohydrate, fermented or
not - yogurt for example.
I would not advise ANY sweeteners of any kind during a candida diet.
I'd stick with savory foods in the high protein low carb line.
It's the same to candida whether you use pure sugar or apple concentrate
or chocolate or aspartame - either the blood sugar goes up and feeds the
candida or the blood sugar stays too low to feed them.
What you use to get blood sugar raised is irrelevant to the candida.... as
long as a raised glucose in the blood is the result - and it is - the
candida will chow down and grow happily.
Soy will make matters much worse as it damages the Th-1 thyroid response.
No. Skip cereals altogether. Cereal is just blood glucose in disguise.
So what. More importantly they have carbohydrates.
So does any fruit.
On the contrary - alcohol will actually help you lower your blood sugar,
and whether it is made with yeast or not, is irrelevant for the candia -
but relevant for cellwall health and resistance.
Yeast provides good B vitamins for stronger more resistant cell walls. By
contrast, red wines provide very strong antioxidants - even more healthy
for cellwalls.
But from a candida perspective, it is mainly relevant that alcohol LOWERS
blood sugar - thus helping to starve candida.
It's nice to have some sort of treat on a no-sweetener diet, and a glass
of red wine is a great option.
I can't help wondering where people get this anti-yeast story from?
It makes no sense.
And soda has too much salt in it.
If you want fizz, use selzer water.
On the contrary - bannas are LOADED with sugar, as are apples and pears.
Forget fruit a while. Too much sugar.
But if you do eat any, then at least choose the lowest carb options you
can find.
Again - where is this anti-yeast story coming from?
And why is the relevance of sugar - and its effect on blood sugar and thus
candida - being ignored?
All old wives tales:-)
Eat yeast, it's great nutrition.
Eat mushrooms too. Mushrooms are a fungus, but contain no yeast - more old
wives tales; they are great nutrition.
Avoid sugar and other carbs, it only nourishes candida.
Namaste,
Irene

Re: Candidiasis- food regime- Liz Lahor
I agree with Irene on this.
The only other thing I would add is why focus on an anti-candida diet
when homeopathy does so well in this area?
I treat a numbers of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) affected kids where
yeast overgrowth, candida included, is a constant problem, especially if
they are also undergoing biomedical treatments - their parents have to
use any number of protocols/supplements/medications to try and get it
under control and it keeps reappearing, often (surprise, surprise) in a
more resistant form.
Yet, the correct prescription sees yeast overgrowth dealt with very
nicely in about a week with none of the die-off effects that can be seen
with other treatments, even dietary changes.
When this is the reality, why look at such stringent and flawed diets
that deny people foods they should be able to tolerate as part of a
"normal" diet?
Kind regards,
Fran Sheffield

Hi Fran,
...... Hahnemann called it a "maintaining cause"
Candida always has poor diet as an aspect of its occurrence.
I submit that the diet I wrote of in another email, is appropriate to
use while using good homeopathy for cure IMO, and I would not use
diet alone. Systemic candida, as some people get, can be very serious
and skew the health so badly that it really needs all the help it can
get to recover.
I do not believe in "normal diet" as the fastest way to heal from the
ravages of a poor one.
With or without homeopathy.
I've seen time and time again that a diet *designed* to assist
healing - does just that:-)
Why put up with the nasty symptoms of candida, just to be able to eat
sugar during treatment for it?
It's a poor trade IMO
