And just to add to the discussion we were taught to give 1 x 6c to boost a single high dose of a remedy that may be running out and I know this works.

Rochelle, along the same lines, I was also taught to give the 6c after a single high dose if the person was taking allopathic medications regularly. In fact, I think it works better in such circumstances to just use the lower potency daily, or to use LMs. My impression of the high potency sustained continuously with low potency doses of the same remedy is that it often muddied the case.
But giving a single booster of low potency when the higher potency seems to be flagging, as you suggest, is interesting. Why wouldn't you, in such circumstances, repeat the high potency in water with succussions? Or, perhaps, give a single dose of 30c, rather than 6c? (Just curious).

Hi Rosemary,
Can you describe what you mean, what you've noticed in such cases?

I'm afraid my answer is that I don't know. I have used this in occasions, especially if a high dose seems to be running out in a shorter time than I would expect. I have a patient who will boost her 10M with a 6c and it will last a month or so longer. She is now on 50M but I can't remember without getting her notes out if she has tried boosting this. I only see her about once a year now. She comes when she need a top up!!
I was also taught to give continuous low doses of a remedy when a patient is on a lot of allopathic medication. I haven't always found this necessary but if I have I have given it in a WP - 5 succussions 5 taps. Please don;t ask me why 5. It's just what I do :-)
Back to the original topic. I had a terrible agg once when a homeopath gave me 1 dose Merc 200. I was in agony taking 6 nurofen every few hours and couldn't get pain free whether I sat down, walked around or lay down. The pain was in the kidney region and was a new symptom for me. I was abroad at the time and had no idea what remedy had been given to me. After a couple of days of this , maybe more, I phoned my homeopath and she told me what I had been given. Luckily I had my kit with me and took a 30c and then 6c and within a couple of hours all the pain had gone. I have never taken Merc again, very rarely prescribe it and now always insist on knowing what I have been given. I could never understand why she prescribed that remedy for me and she used to say I would never understand it as that is the nature of the remedy and its relationship to me. She was lovely, taught me such a lot and unfortunately died of cancer. What a waste! She wouldn't go to the doctor and insisted on just seeing her homeopath who probably told her the same as me to get diagnosed and get treatment. Towards the end she contacted Dr A.U.R but it was too late.

Shannon, these observations date from student clinics when I was in school, so I didn't know what I was observing then. However, based on later experience with a single dose, or with continued low potency water doses, and looking back on the evolution of the cases in student clinic where a single high potency dose was complemented by daily low potency doses -- the response was slower, and less clear, and the cases tended never to really reach a cure, although there was often a general improvement. There was also less opportunity to see the development of symptoms in response to the high dose of the remedy. This meant that there were fewer guidelines for managing the cases -- knowing when to change a remedy or go to a different potency. Hope that helps to clarify. Rosemary

Thanks Rosemary, that does help. I had been curious about how that
would play out.

Hi Rochelle,

In your "adventure" with Mercury, was there any benefit from the dose,
or did the low potency following doses stop its action as well as the
pain from it, if you remember?

This was many years ago but the only benefit on hindsight I noticed was on the M and E's. I found that when I was at a seminar I felt part of that seminar and accepted instead of feeling like an outsider which I normally would have felt. I think I found something on those lines when I read up on the rx in Bailey.
