Re: low blood pressure
Hi Carole,
Oh, plenty!
First, "the indicated remedy"
on basis of the entire case, should
have a normalizing effect on blood pressure, whether too high *or* too
low.
But additionally, low blood pressure means that either there's a pretty
significant dietary imbalance with respect to electrolytes (e.g.
insufficient dietary salt to account for losses during exercise?), or
(*much* more commonly) that the adrenal glands are struggling. So if
the diet is reasonably normal (or high) with regard to salt intake, the
blood pressure might be helped anything that supports adrenal function
and/or "stress" resistance in general, and/or supports healthy blood
sugar levels.
So, e.g.: small, regular meals; regular and sufficient protein (as
well as veggies), low glycemic, no refined carbs; and/or herbs that
are adaptogenic or alterative, and/or known to support adrenal function
(and thyroid too). (All of this should help *either* high or low blood
pressure, BTW.)
Not a very specific answer...
Going for that totality-based chronic remedy could well make all of the
above completely unnecessary anyway! Still, I figure it's good to have
choices.
Best wishes,
Shannon

Re: low blood pressure
Here's my experience with liquorice and low blood pressure.
It's absolutely *wonderful* for a short-term boost. I used it (for
general "stress" support, don't know what my blood pressure was doing)
whenever I knew there was a high-demand day (or whatever) ahead--family
visits, road trip, too many errands, whatever--and found it *extremely*
helpful. But it did not seem to have any noticeable rebuilding effect.
OTOH some other herbs I found later (ashwagandha and, even more so, an
astragalus-based formula) were not as quick to kick in, but did have a
rather lasting residual (rebuilding?) effect.
So I would say--liquorice for short-term support, but also others (and
diet, and various other practices and lifestyle modifications) for
long-term rebuilding.

Re: low blood pressure
That's what I read, unless it's the DGL (deglycherinated--no way can I
spell it!!!) form, which is useful for ulcers but no help with adrenal
support.
The ginsengs, and I *think* particularly Eleuthro (aka Siberian
ginseng) are (I read) good for both low and high blood pressure, gentle
and rebuilding. (This I have only from reading, no personal experience
with it.) Most forms of "adrenal support" would be equally useful for
low and high; liquorice is an exception, and supplemental salt is
perhaps another exception (useful for low blood pressure, but possibly
better avoided with high, at least in some people).

Re: low blood pressure
Hi Carole – are there any symptoms from the low blood pressure or was it just picked up with a routine blood pressure check???
There are numerous people – myself included who have habitual low blood pressure with virtually no symptoms or effects – I am a pretty speedy sort of person and one would expect that I would have high BP if anything but am lucky to ever be over about 100/60 – and this is a familial tendency in my family – I have seen it in a number of my patients as well. Apart from a little orthostatic hypotension if I bolt out of bed/ or out of a chair for the phone or similar – I don’t have any ill effects. There can be a wide range of normal in BP!! Regards Pauline
