Why Pressure Grows Against Homeopathy In UK?
The Lancet, London in its issue of 17th November, 2007 published a special report on the topic of PRESSURE GROWS AGAINST HOMEOPATHY IN UK which is under hot discussion in the medical circles throughout the world.
Once again homoeopathy is being alleged as "unscientific way of therapeutics" which lacks evidence for its efficacy and if there is any efficacy; it is merely a placebo! Unfortunately these allegations started with the birth of homeopathy. Of course these allegations are not going to affect homeopathy lovers but might mislead many innocent people especially when the word "scientific evidence" is used repetitively to substantiate those allegations. Before getting on to the Scientifics, one question raises the eyebrow of every one is that "why the strong wave of opposition is coming again from UK? What is so special with UK and homeopathy?"
Have we forgotten the role of homoeopathy associated with UK? Fortunately the homeopathy had always enjoyed a royalty support right from very beginning and UK is perhaps the unique and the only country in this context on world map. Interestingly it was the UK physician Dr William Cullen who wrote down the role of cinchona bark (Quinine) in curing malaria, which was later handed over to Hahnemann for translation. During the translation he came to discover the curing affects of CINCHONA and decided to experiment it on himself. Experiment was successful and homoeopathy was discovered. It is further interesting to note that Dr Quin, a British doctor who got relieved through homeopathy becomes the successor of Hahnemann, introduces homoeopathy in UK (1830). Homeopathy in Britain quickly became the preferred medical treatment of the upper classes, as well as the aristocracy and retained an elite clientele, including members of the royal family. Dr. Quin sits on the chair of Hahnemann as an admiration by wholehearted French homeopaths.
When this legend of homeopathy passed away in 1878 the Prince of Wales (the future king Edward VII) sent four empty horse-drawn royal carriages to join the cortege; probably the highest honor ever paid by a Royal to a commoner to show the respect and affection for Dr Quinn. We cannot put blind eye on the contributions posted by Englishmen. Hahnemann as a physician, malaria as a disease and cinchona as a medicine has a vital role in the discovery of homeopathy.
Bowel Nosodes were discovered in 1925 by a UK Doctor Edward Basch (bacteriologist) and it is considered as a great contribution in the field after Hahnemann since modern knowledge of bacteriology was incorporated in homeopathy. Apart from it modern variants of homeopathy like isopathy and tautopathy are widely used in homeopathic circle of UK.
Personal Physician to the Queen Elizabeth, Dr Peter Fisher is the director of Royal London Homeopathic Hospital and also a fellow of Royal College of Physicians in allopathic medicine. Last year even the Prince Charles, in Geneva (world health assembly), spoke high on the subject for the promotion while advocating homoeopathy and other traditional therapeutics options.
This generous support at the royal level, strong ancestral relationship, availability of higher potencies/Nosodes, people/patient support, rapidly expending market, adaptation by many allopath doctors, are like foreign bodies in the eyes of opponents; sufficient enough to make them myopic. These are the reasons why pressure grows against homeopathy in UK?
Homoeopathy in UK is now treated like an alien who would never be allowed full citizenship.
If etiology behind the disease and mode of action behind the therapy are prerequisite for any scientific management then why and how allopathy can be allowed to suppress all the idiopathic disease and why it should keep on following treatments for which the therapeutic reasons are even unknown to them e.g. ECT Therapy in depression etc. Is it not keeping the lid down on boiling kettle at the cost of prolonging illness?
With due regard to scientific developments; one can ask 'how much time is still required by allopaths to discover the treatments of old and common maladies like Psoriasis, Eczema and asthma. what to expect and say about new and yet uncommon ones like AIDS? How to stop spread of multi-drug resistant tuberculosis which was once considered as fully treatable through scientific trials. What is it the ratio of disease taxonomy and their available cure?' Just imagine the helpless state of the dermatology which is offering treatments to the hundreds of the ailments of skin in the nonexistence of steroids. excluding emergency, use of a steroid is not the key for all locks but for sure is the lock on medical wisdom!
So if allopathy has the authority to sample treatment for unknown causes then what would be the justification to question the authority of homeopathy whose philosophy is yet to be understood?
The number of times the word "idiopathic" used in medical sciences shows itself the limitations of comprehension! In this context medical science should incorporate time tested and rapidly expending, relatively different therapeutic options for the betterment of mankind instead of keeping them away by calling unscientific. It is well said that Art is more GOD like than science because it creates but science just discovers. Many people also believe that allopathy is usually suitable for impatient while homeopathy is always liked by real patients. However, efficacy of both cannot be denied by any group.
If any body believes that it is just placebo then we do keep the right to ask that how a system can survive for this much time and progress if it is nothing but a placebo? Do we have any other example in the history of medical science as for as system of therapeutics are concerned? Where are the studies on neonates/children, and animals to confirm placebo effect? Why a remedy should face bane when it is nothing but a placebo? how a placebo should be toxic? Which placebo control trial will be useful to disprove positive effects of homeopathic medicines even on plants? Why plants can not help each other, when they are the rich source for the treatment of human disease?
We do regard importance of randomized placebo control trails but we should not forget their limitations as their ethical value and sensitivity/specificity are remained under question even by their firm believers.
For those who still believe that homeopathy is just a placebo effect are humbly advised to spare few weeks with a good homoeopath (keeping all the reservations) to have a look on process of case taking and recoveries through the admittance of patients, which is perhaps the most precious mechanism to judge homeopathy. Only unprejudiced mind is all that is needed.
There is another wonderful way to come to know about truth and power of infinitesimal dose which is again time tested and reliable. It is about our GLONOIN (also known as deeper BELLADONA) derived from nitroglycerine. By taking repeated doses with short interval of its medium potency, one can experience a definite change in otherwise healthy body ranging from change in pulse to sever throbbing headache sufficient enough to change his belief of placebo effect.but if he/she still believes that it was just a coincidence then he should take few doses of ACONITE, commonly known as lancet of homeopathy, (which is antidote to GLONOIN) and his pain will subside!
It is a known fact that most commonly used anti angina nitroglycerine was introduced by a homeopathic legend Dr Hering in 1849 to medical world, 30 years before allopaths of his time could do. The first allopath who advocated nitroglycerine for angina pectoris was William Murrel, who published a review on the subject in the lancet 1879. In allopathy it is still number one anti angina medicine but its benefits are limited to just one indication i.e. angina, whereas in homeopathy it's used in particular for the side effects of its allopathic long term use along with multiple other indications according to symptomatology like Migraines, heat strokes and different cardiovascular complains.
There is another interesting link of this medicine with world famous noble prize. The Swedish chemist Alfred noble invented DYNAMITE which is the solid form of liquid Nitroglycerine and is far safer to handle. Thus nitroglycerine, initially a homeopathic remedy, in addition to its important role in the management of ischemic heart disease, also indirectly lead to the establishment of a major prize that acknowledges the benefits of scientific research to mankind but homeopathy is still unscientific!
Another humble offer to the opponent is still available which require a little sacrifice; Show your finger to a burning lighter for few seconds and take simultaneously few doses of Cantharis in medium potency and note down its wonderful effects in reducing your burning and blister formation.if still unconvinced then the homeopath should take his case under the rubric of.Fixed ideas.means mind has to be treated as, eyes can't see what mind does not know!
Homeopathy has attracted peoples from all walks of life; even the laypersons got interested and some became our dedicated assets. A deficiency in proper education and training does exist but homeopaths are not fully responsible for that, because it has occurred due to discourteous attitude of opponents by keeping the wool on the eyes of government authorities!
If this continues in Europe and UK then homeopathy will absolutely come into view from India and Pakistan, since truth and knowledge does not have borders but prevails wherever it is regarded with affection.
I strongly request the WHO, UK government and NHS authorities to come forward and protect artistic and scientific human heritage of wisdom from opinionated pressure groups.
The problem of scientific medicine is that it immensely overestimates what we already know and immensely underestimates what we do not yet know.yet it conclude; "what is not can not be" which is totally unscientific for an inquiring science.
Would the medicinal science be able to discover any tool for the measurement of wisdom inside the neuron, if yes, then perhaps it may find the scientific evidence for homoeopathic remedy as well? Thoughts do exist in mind which is immaterial like concept but can give birth to a physical substance.isn't a fact that conception (pregnancy) is a product of a concept? Through serial dilution homeopathic remedies are made immaterial and are further empowered by potentization, in order to address the conceptual parenchyma of mind. We know it is just a theory at this stage or a possible explanation, which may help us to understand the nature of homoeopathic remedy. Old saying, "there is nothing more practical then a good theory" still rings true today!
This is the reason why a homeopath will concentrate more on mind symptoms then physical symptoms. In contrast, in allopathy any strange, rare, typical and peculiar mind symptom is generally regarded as vague symptom or at the best will be called as a psychosomatic symptom and the patient is labeled as having mental illness.do they know the pathophysiological reasoning behind each and every symptom? Should we disregard any information generated by wonderful and intelligent unlimited human information system on the basis of our limited knowledge? Why a pure scientific mind should digest statements like, perhaps it was due to complex mind body relationships? Surly not.then it is bad luck for innocent patients who are on tranquilizers and other antipsychotic drugs and are becoming habitual for scientifically proven therapy.
Unfortunately the homoeopathy does not grow for the reason that majority of its followers did not go on the highway of just commercialization.
Many thanks to medical scientists for their dedication and hard work which has provided an extraordinary ease for homeopaths too, particularly in the field of investigation as a result our repertories are now armed with modern labels of illness but we still pay due attention to the patients genuine information and not rely just on lab reports. For us they are more helpful in prognostic perspective then diagnostic, making and keeping us confident but not overconfident! Homeopathic philosophy can now make a beautiful link between involvement of CD4 lymphocytes both in AIDS and tuberculin test which is a classical example of type four hypersensitivity reactions.many thanks to scientific knowledge since it has provided a point to think about pathophysiological relationships of our remedies. In short modern homeopathy does understand the difference between forced manipulation of immune system and its gentle assistance!
Homeopathy wholeheartedly acknowledge the differences of opinion which can be found even in its prescribers since it is not a private property or a corporate company where all rights are reserved and nothing can be presented without written permission of the owner!
No matter what opponents think about homeopathy but others should not be forced to follow their decisions and thoughts as there is no justification. From the very beginning Science has always been persecuted and labeled as unscientific and false but in the end is admitted in its ever expanding horizons. You cannot force others to call themselves what you believe they are but they have every right to call themselves what they believe they are.
There is a great need to work together for the betterment of masses, otherwise sufferings will take undue benefit out of it, which is already quite evident to all of us.I guarantee homeopathy will never disappoint.
To disregard some thing which is beyond our comprehension is sheer injustice. Homeopathy effects offer positive challenge to existing science and it must be regarded as a pleasant task otherwise it reminds me the famous 'sour grapes' tale.
