Re: Re the Scarlet Fever case
Yes sometimes the chronic still comes thru the acute and that is where
the acute treatment will also address the chronic - not only is the
acute treated but also the chronic- this is where the acute flare-up
is still within the purview of the chronic
This is when the patient says when you gave the medicine not only did
this complaint go away but this other thing ( which I did not mention)
also went away-
or sometimes it is the chronic of an acute remedy or complementary of
the acute that comes thru-
usually when the indicated medicine is given either it cures or if it
is not the right one the modalities and other pointers become
prominent so that the indicated remedy clearly comes thru - it is
almost as if the indicated or nearly indicated has made the vital
force powerful enough to produce symptoms
Generally the key is in the modalities and concomitants - when you
have an acute the chronic goes into abeyance but is almost like a
silent concomitant in the background-it is still there and you might
get to see it in some one symptom or modality etc.
sometimes the chronic modality / concomitant might persist clearly
thru the acute and not just this acute but longitudinally in all the
other acutes the patient might have had - a red thread that runs thru
Then that becomes a key pointer to the patient's chronic remedy - and
a lot of times will also work for the acute...
The way I generally handle this is given good modalities in the acute,
will note down all the remedies I got for these and when the acute is
done and over, will revisit them after the acute to see if in the
emerging picture there is anything from this list that comes thru--
and that might end up being the follow-up remedy that might treat the
chronic state as well...
The assumption is that the chronic showed itself in just one modality
or something when the acute was there - now that the acute is gone,
the modality might have disappeared but the same remedy might be
showing some other chronic trait and we might be able to pick it up
now since we are on the look-out for it...

Re: Re the Scarlet Fever case
Okay, that's why I thought she needs to take the chronic case, and go
from there. She's kept saying she can't find things of any
significance that have changed, and I have always understood that as
being a time when you need to get the chronic remedy.
Perhaps with the good pointers and suggestions that have been provided,
other clues will be found... It certainly makes *sense* to me to treat
this as an acute--but if there's no acute case, then I'd have thought
the only option was to treat the chronic picture. Would that be a
mistake?

Hi Rochelle
Some thoughts about your case:
Anxiety about health is very much there in the Sulphur picture and Sulphur is commonly used towards the end of eruptive illnesses ( at least, by me!) .
There is also ‘disgust’ as a way of describing what Morrison calls a ‘visceral sense from odors, objects or even people’.
The bacterial nature of the illness might make me anxious to make sure it has really been resolved and the lack of fever is not good news in that respect.
Although an aggravation from heat might be a good confirmatory I don’t know that you would expect heat/fever particularly in Sulphur. And the ‘lack of heat’ in Arsenicum is more of an acute chilliness, isn’t it?

I will add the fever absence to her symptoms in my rep.
OK I have done that and the main Rx that appears for Scarlet fever, Fever
heat absent, despair of recovery are Ars 2,1,4 Sulphur 2,3,1 Lyco 3,2,1,
Hepar 1,2,1 Caust 1,2,1,
Ok I can see Ars because of the anxiety about her health with this but it is
only a 1 for heat absent which is a SRP.

Re: Re the Scarlet Fever case
In the 'old' days, doctors/nurses, in children with measles with rash slow
to come out, would have the child take very hot baths.
That is one possibility
To worry about what they would think/popularity, is not an option for this
girl. She is risking organ damage.
If that were explained first, they may think differently. (and they may
not, but then it would be their choice)
And I don't ever remember that we for sure knew this was scarlet fever.
Did all other possibilities get looked at?

patient!!!!! I really don't think I would be the most popular homeopath in
town!! However I am prepared to discuss it with Mum although my patient is
18!! I've know Mum for years as a patient whereas I have only just met this

Hi Rochelle,
in Germany ther have been quite a few outbreaks of scarlet fever, and
the practically never present the picture described for scarlet fever
- very often there is no fever or very low and most of the time hardly
any rash or strawberry tongue.
Belladonna still seems to be the epidemical remedy for it. (This is
what a homeopath/pediatrician some time ago wrote on the German list.)

Re: Re the Scarlet Fever case
Hi Shannon,
If I have understood Ardavan rightly, often that happens what
Hahnemannian more or less also said: a chronic, at a certain trigger,
will show itself in an acute manifestation, and the acute remedy will
actually turn out to be the chronic or the remedy for the original
state, which turned into the chronic.
Any ideas from people who have studied Ardavan's texts about whether
my interpretation is correct?

Re: Re the Scarlet Fever case
Probably because so many are so immune-suppressed and over vaccinated and
vital force can't manifest symptoms that are vital - fever, rash, etc

Re: Re the Scarlet Fever case
Well all I have seen at the moment is Me Me Me!! It is unlikely that this girl would be brought to me for a constitutional remedy as she is 18, at work and Mum would probably insist that she paid herself and at that age clothes and MP3 players get priority!! I know she wasn't very nice to her step sister when she was living with them!!
