5th Edition prescribers- advice needed
5th Edition prescribers- advice needed
The child with the psoriasis is nearly at the end of her 1st bottle of Puls 30 - 6 succussions and 1 teaspoon into a glass of water and 1 teaspoon from that every other day. She is doing well in that the psoriasis on her body is clearing nicely. The problem is that her scalp is still thick and lumpy and mum says her hair is going thinner. Mum is using a mild shampoo on it.
I have told her to continue as she is taken the remedy and I will make up a new bottle having succussed it 100 times before giving it to her. Is this correct? Should she stay at every other day or go to say once a week?
The other patient I gave Foll 200 - 6 succussions , 1 teaspoon direct from the bottle. She phoned me today 3 days after to say she is feeling down ad this morning had blood in her stool which is an old symptom. I said not to take any of the remedy until the agg has stopped and the expected amel has taken place and she goes back down. She promised that she would keep in touch.
Any suggestions on what I have said to my patients much appreciated.

Can’t comment on the scalp as I am not familiar with the other details of the case. No need to success the bottle to 100 – just make it up and give it to her. All that is needed is that the previous dose is a different potency to the next dose - which it will be.
The other patient I gave Foll 200 - 6 succussions , 1 teaspoon direct from the bottle. This is correct. If she does not go on to an improvement, you will need to consider if you have the correct remedy. If she does go to an improvement, you may have to consider giving the next dose in a gentler form (less successions/less from the stock bottle/greater dilution, etc). The duration of the improvement will give an indication of how frequently she should dose.
Any suggestions on what I have said to my patients much appreciated.

Thanks Fran.
You said I have no need to succuss the bottle 100 times when I make up the new one , however I calculated that she would have succussed the previous one 100 times in all and that is why I need to succuss the new one by this amount so that the potency continues to rise a little. Do you think she needs to increase the time between doses now as it does seem to be working?

No need to have a “rising” potency, just a different one so that the VF does not become confused by trying to react to two consecutive potencies that are the same. Improvement will continue with a different potency even if the bottle does not have the same number of successions in it as the previous one.
Do you think she needs to increase the time between doses now as it does seem to be working?
She can continue on this frequency of dosage as long as there is no aggravation. Alternatively, she could start to space the doses a little further apart as long as improvement continues but really there is no need for this – if she is doing well on this level of repetition, why not continue it as it is the frequency of well tolerated repetitions helps speed the rate of cure.
Sounds as though you are doing well!

Just to clarify - in this instance when I am talking about a different potencies I mean the different potencies created by a different number of successions given to a stock bottle of 30C (a bottle of liquid in which a 30C pilule has been dissolved). I am not talking about changing from a 30C to a 200C potency.

Why did you ask this question?
I am glad that you approve of what I am doing but I have to say that taking
notes on how many succussions and from which "cup" the patient is taking the
Rx from is a nightmare but has to be done because I can't remember what \I
have told individual patients to do.
I am pleased to find out from Fran that I don't have to do all those
succussions but I am just a bit bothered that I will be decreasing the
potency if I don't. Maybe the miniscule amount that the potency is changed
doesn't matter as long as it is changed!!
I haven't gone over completely to 5th Edition as some patients are still
getting dry doses.
Do you recycle the bottles? If so how? Will a dishwasher be OK? At the
moment I am only reusing them for herbal tinctures!!

This is what I do - I use a shorthand approach in my own notes - for
example, 5:5:1/4:1
This means 5 succussions: 5 drops: quarter cup of water: teaspoon dose
(which is my standard dosage as I use dropper bottles rather than the larger
bottles proposed by Hahnemann. I make use of the principles of varying
dilution and succussions to suit patient response and dissolve pilules into
25ml dropper bottles for the convenience factor. As a result, I dilute drops
rather teaspoons - gasp!).
1:1:1:olf means 1 succussion: 1 drop: 1 cup of water: one olfaction dose (3
olf would mean an olfaction dose from the third dilution cup - as would be
used for some sensitives).
If I am dispensing an oral dose straight from the dropper bottle I will just
write, for example, 5:5 for 5 succussions, 5 drops.
Patient instruction sheets also need to accommodate these instructions - I
just leave gaps within the text so I fill in the appropriate numbers - takes
no time at all.

Dear Rochelle,
Dr Koppikar writes that you can go from low to high and also from high to low with good effect. You could try Puls 6C or 6X water potency succussed 2 to 3 times once daily for longer periods. You should ideally be getting feedback that “nothing is happening” ( but after a month when you retake the case you would find permanent though slight improvement); in the second month you should find marked improvements in more than one sphere. According to Dr Koppikar change in potency is also a method of antidoting the ill effects of a high potency aggravation. The 6C and 6X water potencies avoid aggravations in all but the most sensitive, and are also thought to be balancing potencies ( balancing as in homeostasis) by some practitioners, thus ideally suited to children, the aged and the weak. On that analogy you could give Foll 6C or 6X water potency, which should antidote the aggravation and carry forward the curative action albeit very slowly for the other patient.
For the scalp eruptions and hair thinning you could try Hoitzia coccinea 6C water potency for a longer duration. See extracts.

Hoitzia Coccinea, or "colibri flower", grows in the valley of Mexico.
Its common name comes from the feeling on touching it : it seems to be covered with small thorns.
In popular medicine, it is used as a sudorific drug, and the Mexican cowherds use it for fevers, and eruptions in their cattle.
The women use a decoction of the plant for washing their hair; it prevents its falling out.
It is a voracious plant, belonging to the Polimoniaceae family, and growing up to 1m in height, with a tap-root, gnarled, with fine, isolated rootlets, which in turn give out other smaller rootlets.
Straight, cylindrical stem, "sub-ligneous", covered with small whitish hairs; alternated, oval, spear-shaped leaves, and axillary flowers.
The mother tincture is obtained from the entire fresh plant, and it was Manuel M. De. Legarreta who established its Hahnemannian proving.

Re: 5th Edition prescribers- advice needed

A sound source of info for this is Helios. They do re-use bottles; they sterilise them at a high temperature (well above 100 degrees Centigrade), in an oven, and the chap who I heard lecture about this (name, unfortunately, forgotten) did say one could do this at home.
The idea is that the heat somehow destroys the vibrations that may have entered the glass from the remedy. Lids you cannot re-use because they cannot be heated like that. If you have a source of separate lids, you may want to experiment.
The reasoning behind the vibrations-in-the-glass is not quite logical to my mind. We were advised to ensure that the dilution glass and spoon for LMs and plussed Cs should be briefly scalded with boiling water from the kettle - or put through the dishwasher. But the dishwasher is not usually hotter than about 65 degrees, and likewise a quick 'lick' of boiling water will not get the temperature of a glass up above 100 degrees. It is surmised that someone using a glass or spoon that's been used for LM dilutions may/can/will get an accidental dose unless the glass has been scalded. I know for sure that not all my clients comply with this, but haven't heard of anything that I could relate to family members accidentally proving a remedy.
As, in truth, we still do not know for certain just how our remedies work, the heat treatment is presumably a precaution based on plausible assumptions about the nature of vibration.
Personally, I prefer to simply buy new bottles - they cost about £0.75 each where I buy them, though they could probably be sourced more cheaply in bulk (I use 100ml screw top and 25ml dropper bottles).
Happy experimenting.
