- Dream: Teeth falling out, pulled them out. It was so real. I had braces on my teeth as well and I pulled them off. I just wobbled all my teeth and they were loose and rotten. I had a handful of molars, which someone had later stolen to sell.

When is a dream of teeth falling out a proper warning for the dreamer, his own teeth being endangered, and when not? We strongly recommend reading the book of E.C. Whitmont, "Dreams, a Portal to the Source" (1992), to shed light upon the question as to when the archetype has to be taken into consideration when looking at a dream, and when the dream has to be seen on the level of subject ("it is what my teeth mean to me which threatens to be lost, to be weakened") or object ("I"d better check my teeth - maybe they are coming loose... .") of the dream.

It was clear that Nux vomica hadn't helped, although it seemingly covered all the symptoms.

At this point I gave him Cobaltum metallicum 200C.

Analysis

His dreams show the feeling of guilt and of being caught. This was the main stress at work too, where he was made to sign papers that could get him in trouble so he felt guilty that he would be caught anytime, and yet he didn't have the courage to take a stand or leave his job.

In the case of Cobalt, the dream of teeth falling out could signify a loss of defences which is visible. A toothless face can hardly go unnoticed. Cobalt has the feeling he is vulnerable because he is guilty and everyone knows it. Hence the rubric in Synthesis - Delusion: wrong he has done and could not look anyone in the face as others knew it.

Incidentally, dreams of teeth falling out is found in Niccolum which is situated next to Cobalt in the periodic table.

Follow-up

After one week:

Eighty percent improvement of the pains due to corns. This was a dramatic improvement just one week after giving him Cobaltum metallicum 200C, especially after several excruciating weeks when Nux vomica didn't work.

After this he didn't call or come back for treatment for two months. He then called to make an appointment for his son and also to tell me that his corns disappeared. His wife said they are harassing him in the office - but he isn't too stressed and not irritable at home either. His backache too was better.
