A weird symptom

Post by Dr. Joe Rozencwajg, NMD »

A patient I saw yesterday described the following symptom: "I need at all times to have the sole of my feet in contact with something, the floor, the bed, anything or to have strong pressure put on them. I cannot have any empty space under my feet".
The she adds "I fear to be stabbed in my feet"......
There is a lot of fear and fascination about stabbing and cutting, I am not allowed to say more, but I cannot make sense of the sole of the feet symptom. It does not seem a grounding problem, she is here and present.
My search engine in Reference Works almost insulted me as I kept searching and not finding anything.
Anyone any bright ideas???

Odd! Well, just a thought, could there be any relationship with the
remedies (yikes, was it Med and/or Lyssin, and/or ???) that fear deep
water, feeling as tho something will come up from the depths and bite
their feet?? Maybe completely different...

Dear Dr Roz,
I immediately thought of cats who are Pulsatilla constitution.
Your description is how they feel: They will not be held in mid-air with
feet dangling - they scrabble for a foothold - putting claws out as well
to help them find purchase. Feet *must* be on terra firma......
If you put one on show - they must be lifted to the judges table by
picking them up by the back feet - so the back feet are well supported,
or they get panicky. The front feet are less important to support, and
you'll find a Puls kitten with front paws dangling over somewhere - but
hind feet must always be grounded.
I don't know if that helps - but it is a strong Puls
constitutional-type feature in cats (and dogs.)

Just a wild guess based on the above - but could it be that she's a Puls
constitutionally, and the stabbing/cutting are really separate and more
pathological aspects of the case?

Not at all. The dominant themes here were stab, cut, kill and the remedy that came up strongest was Positronium.
It does cover some of the other, physical, complaints but more by analogy rather than exactly (I think I am already overstepping what I can say here).
Still this is a very peculiar, special, remarkable symptom, isn't it?

Could be although I do not see any Pulsatilla in her, not in the usual way, not in the opposite face of the coin..........

Interesting "metaphor", the way the two species need "support"! :-)

Very! :-)
I'm curious, have you used positron before? What a strange thing to
make a remedy from!

Dear Dr Roz, this will always be difficult without knowing more about a case but if you are using computer software I think I would do a search on the rubrics/rx that have levitation in their sx picture + use the 'delusion floating' (fabulous that Lac felinum is there) as is Spigelia (high ranking 'stabbing' rx) and many other fascinating choices as well.

Someone mentioned Lyssin, that's good too, lots of self afflicting cutting, stabbing and has a terrible fear of falling (another rubric I would use) and also has a delusion they are being injured/abused is very very strong.

Could offer more but gotta go - is it possible for you to send private info to those interested or maybe you are happy with Posit :-)

Dr Roz.
could this symptom re the feet be thought of a sensation of wanting to hide as a protection as the soles of the feet are one of the most vulnerable parts of a person.
could lyssin or stram be part of this. Also found a reference to guiac as having a component of wanting to cut or be cut but can't find verification in any of the materia medicas.
kind regards
