NCH summer schools--the good old days!

Post by Teresa Kramer »

I know what I heard (though don’t remember where I heard it), namely that the summer schools were a money-losing proposition in the last couple of years because there are just so many H courses out there now. Attendance was down but costs were way up, especially after 9/11, I believe.
In case some are not at all familiar with its history, the National Center for Homeopathy’s summer school which last met in the summer of 2004, I believe, was the continuation of a summer school that began in or around the 1920s, perhaps first organized by the AIH, though I am not sure of that.
For many years the summer school was held in Millersville, PA and was the only US venue for medical professionals and interested laypeople to learn about homeopathy. Some very distinguished American homeopaths, both laypeople and medical professionals, were deans of the summer school—including, I think, Julian Winston. Among others, Andre Saine, Dr. Luc de Schepper, and I believe Dr. Farokh Masters taught classes there in recent years.
You went for a long weekend or for all two weeks, stayed in a college dorm, and studied and ate meals with like-minded people at what seemed to me to be a very reasonable price. It was IMO a total joy!
Most recently (I don’t know for how long) it was held for 2 weeks at various venues (Johns Hopkins and Notre Dame College were two venues where I attended the summer school) in Baltimore, MD.
If someone knows more on the subject or believes this information not to be correct, please do chime in. I am happy to stand corrected. I think those summer schools should be talked about and remembered in the homeopathic community. I am SO glad I came to homeopathy in time to attend three of them. Teresa (Northern VA, USA)

Do you know why the NCH summer school sessions have stopped?

On the other hand, the new combined homeopathic annual meetings are really wonderful -- if you're yearning for a "homeopathic summit," that's where to be these days. :-))) Rosemary

That would be WONDERFUL. I intend to be at the conference but don’t know if I can make summer school without planning as of now. I’ll keep an eye on the website. Thanks for the update! Teresa (in Northern VA, USA)
