Rasmussen's Encephalitis

Has anyone here heard of this disease? I got the most intereting
rubric related to it: seeing rainbows before one eye. I don't think
it is a rainbow she actually sees. I get the feeling that it is
double vision with a halo or smear between the two images. How would
one repertorize that? Would you focus on the double vision or on the
nickname she gives it?

Can anyone help? Particularly if you've worked with Rasmussen's
before or if you have worked with a lot of seizure cases or
encephalitis. Some of the symptoms are as follows:

rainbow before the eyes on impending convulsions
facial convulsions
gripping frontal headache immediately behind forehead during seizure
hypersalivation with or without vomiting, foaming at the mouth
seizures occuring between 3 and 6 PM only, and only every few months
unconscious, comatose during and after seizure
symptoms exclusively left sided (numbness in left arm, leg, left
half of mouth, deafness in left ear, blindness in left eye)
fever during seizure
urinary and bowel incontinence during seizure
left sided muscle weakness lingers after seizure
sleeps heavily after returning from coma of seizure

craves chocolate, spicy nachos, chocolate milk, frozen lemonade and
lemon kool-aid

generally "spaced-out" even in the lag (sometimes months long)
between episodes

has had left-sided issues her whole life, but seizures are
relatively new (2 years)

noting that immediately before the seizure there is the "rainbow"
vision... I think she means that the image is in the shape of a
rainbow, curved or arched, but not sure

has been treated with keppra and dilantin

it is believed that the disease is the aftereffects of some kind of
acute encephalitis, but it was only diagnosed after the fact

Also, this child has had the full vaccine plan, as proposed by the
CDC - and on time.

Lastly, there is a family history of seizures, an uncle and a male
cousin who both grew out of the seizures in adulthood. We have not
seen this problem in the family women and girls.

Wondering if anyone can help. This is my 11 year old neice I am
talking about. My sister is keen on having the surgery to remove
half her brain to stop the seizures but wants to try homeopathy
first (she's been to a naturopath who is treating with food based
remedies and detox diet but not with homeopathy). I had heard that a
homeopathic clinic was opening that specialized in encephalitis
cases, is anyone here associated with that?

Thanks in advance for your assistance. I'm using Kent and Boericke
so definitely if there's newer information that might help, please
do.

Hi Christina,

this symptom may or may not be a characteristic one of your niece. To
judge you will need to know exactly what she is talking about.

I would give her some colour-pencils and encourage her to make a drawing
- pictures are often much more helpful than words.
And I would ask her if any feelings/emotions/sensations are combined
with the rainbow effect.
