juices and alz

Post by Carol Orr »

for a couple of years before she became ill..she was worried about getting
alzheimers. but most of her life she had tried unusual diets. she had been
taking gingko the year before she became ill...and her big toe had started
hurting. her homepathic doctor told her to stop taking the gingko. recently, i
read that taking gingko (bringing circulation to the brain )can actually speed
up the process of alz.

regarding alum...i did give her alum 30c several times a few years ago when
her poop came out in little dark balls...its been 4 or 5 years since then and
the black balls have not reoccured.

One of the diets she went on about 40 years ago was cabbage everyday. she
eventually developed polyps..had an operation(around age 42) and never got her
period again(there was an idea several years ago that early menopause
contributed to alz.). When she first became ill(Age 72, she is 85 now)..which
started with her not being able to remember the name of a particular fruit..i
had wanted to give her lyc. but a friend of hers was afraid for her and told
me not to give it.

thirteen years later...this winter..she had swollen feet..a callous on right
foot that moved to the left foot as well. she also could no longer put her
foot down on her right foot. I finally dared to give her lyc 200c...and the
next day the swollen feet were no longer swollen. but a bedsore appeared on
her buttuck and it was huge...and i got worried and tried to antidote the lyc.
the swelling came back. i took her to the hospital after a month of trying to
treat that sore.(her homeopathic doctor was upset that i tried to antidote lyc
and he wanted me togive it to her again..he has since retired(two months ago)

the hospital said she has a bloot clot in her left leg..and she went into a
nursing home for 3 months for sore and regulating her blood thinner. the
doctor there told me NOT to give her any homeopathy...as it might change upset
the dosage levels she needed of blood thinner. She is home now and her
allopathic doctor said i could give her whatever in two months. I'd like to
give her the lyc again at some point but it was scary that it had such a
strong reaction so quickly and i with my meagar experience ..would i be able
to handle it.

I believe from the new studies on alzheimers..one by univ. of minnesota that
put plaques in brains of rats...they lost their memories...then they antidoted
the whatever..and the memories came back...even though the plaques remained.
and the other study...of the nuns...which at first suggested that the nuns who
wrote simplistic essays when they first joined the nunnery as young
women..ended up with alzheimers..and the
nuns who were writing more complex..more adjectives..more
diversions...more interesting essays...did not get alz in old age..but
secondarily and more important was that when the older nuns died who did not
have alzheimers...they found the same plaques in their brains as the ones who
had alz.

Which makes me even more hopeful and maybe, also, alas, more stupid that
eventually with the correct remedies...even late stage alzheimers could be
reversed.

i recall reading some time ago they have found arterial plaque
in elderly people after death who never had heart problems.
this was not in this country. so it begs the question about
plaque in the brain not being the cause of alzheimers, but
simply a concomittant condition that may or may not impact
the memory function.

fascinating that Lycopodium is so intimately allied to Alumina and also
has a terrible reaction to cabbage - if you feel confident enough to
continue treating her and feel that Lyc is the best rx then I would
suggest you try LM's, best wishes, Joy

Hi, Carol.

Sorry that you and your mother have gone through so many problems with her
health -- that's certainly very trying, to say the least.

I just wanted to comment briefly on her doctors comment about not giving her
homeopathic treatment because it would interfere with the dosage of blood
thinner -- it's irrelevant for you by now, but it's a useful insight for
homeopathic users to know.

Often allopathic doctors think that "homeopathy" means "herbal." They know
that Gingko, for instance, changes the consistency of blood. I've heard
docs make that statement about homeopathy and blood thinners, based on that
one herb's effect, not knowing, of course, that their fear is irrelevant
regarding classical homeopathy, which is not the same thing as herbal
treatment (let alone that they're making a wildly inaccurate generalization
about herbal treatments.).

The kindest way to say it would be that this is a part of allopathic
folklore. There's not much point in arguing with them, of course -- the
ones who make grossly inaccurate biased statements in the first place aren't
generally open to changing their mind upon receiving better quality
information. People just need to be aware that "homeopathic" means many
different things to different people, and that for some allopathic
practitioners, it means "herbal" or "alternative," nothing more. At the very
least, knowing that a particular doctor spreads false information, I would
be very wary of his or her pronouncements in general. Those who say
something like "well, I don't know a lot about homeopathy, but at least I
understand that it won't interfere or harm the patient " have a more honest
approach to patient information.

You are correct, but only to a certain extent.
Although no homeopathic remedy will interfere with conventional drugs, the
homeopathic treatment, by making the patient better, will create a situation
where the therapeutic effect of the drug is not needed any more and you have
to deal with the side effects only.
The best example is with patients on hypertension drugs, well controlled BP.
Once you start a good homeopathic treatment, their BP stabilises naturally,
hence they experience episodes of low BP due to the continuous action of the
drug. That drug has to have its dosage reduced then stopped, totally
different situation than interfering with a treatment, it is making it
redundant.
It is important to explain this to the patient so he/she can monitor the
situation and go back to the GP for adaptation of the dosage. Again with BP,
I recommend my patients to buy a sphygmomanometer and measure their BP
regularly, as soon as there is a shift downwards, adapt the dose, with or
without the help of the GP.......same with other drugs.

Hi Joy,
Could you please talk some more about the relationship of Lycopodium
and Alumina - I haven't heard about it before...

Thanks, Gail A.

Apparently the aluminum content of the club moss plant is really high --
something like 50% -- so there's a lot of overlap between symptoms of these
two remedies, and sometimes one can look a lot like the other.

People just need to be aware that "homeopathic" means many

--- Yes and this includes homeopaths as well- we ourselves do not have
a consistent identity and we cannot blame others for not
understanding. If we get clubbed together with all alternative
therapies out there we reap what we sow... we joined the general
clamor against allopathy and popped our tent in the alternative side
of the river- from the other side now all looks the same - and
considering that most of the group here does a lot of other things as
well - we are eclectic at best...so cannot blame the allopath for
misunderstanding-
I would not agree that this is right- if the physician does not know
about homeopathy then he / she should not allow it to be used... there
is always a possibility of interaction and given the nature of side
effects of allopathic medicine they cannot allow any more harm to the
patient due to a possible side effect because of some other system of
therapeutics.

If the patient is being treated for say psoriasis and the allopathic
drug ( whatever we think about suppression etc) or cream is trying to
suppress it and we give a medicine that might allow it to flare up (
however curative it is ) it is plain meddling. This is a real case I
had where a patient came to me for treating a hydrocele and wanted to
find if he can avoid surgery. He was going to get married and wanted
this to be treated before that. In history I found that he had
psoriasis now successfully suppressed with allopathy, I told him it is
likely that the lesions might break out again after homeopathy and
would that be agreeable to him - since he is getting married this
might be a problem and also that the treatment might have to continue
for some time even after the marriage, which was quite soon.If he had
been actively under allopathic treatment for Psoriasis and if I had
treated his hydrocele with medicines that could cause a flare up I am
interfering with his treatment.

we even saw one post here advising (whatever drug it was) as 20 drops
5 times daily- do you think it will not interfere? If the patient was
on Disulfiram ( antabuse) and we give 20 drops alcohol 5 times daily
we might end up killing the poor guy....

and Allen says that Lyc is the only vegetable that takes up aluminium (not totally sure
about that, although being a plantsperson I am not a biologist - maybe others could say
more) but yes as Rosemary says, very similar and worth reading the 2 rx as a comparison.
best wishes, Joy
