Re: Homeopathic help sought for little dog
Dear List,
since April 2005, a friend's little Chihuahua, 6 years old, who is a "member of the family", suffers from a dark fleck with thin and old looking skin on the right side of her back, followed by hair loss in that area. Now, for the last 3 weeks the situation has changed to the worse, because she is getting 2 more of these spots and "has grown old over night". The previously happy and cheerful dog sleeps most of the day, doesn't want to go out of the house any more and wants a lot of warmth around her. She seems to have pain in her back (doesn't wag any more). She eats a lot more than before but doesn't put on weight. Veterinarians think that something might be wrong with her thyroid but say nothing can be done with such a small dog.
Thankful for any hints,
Helga

Greetings Helga,
A couple of ideas --"Suddenly looking old" is listed for fluoric acid-- a
rx with thyroid problems prominent (emaciation with large appetite (though
not in repertories as one symptom like that), frank thyroid disease, great
depression; early senility with hair falling, (often patchy baldness).
Recommend ruling out or attempt to confirm as a first step.
Thyroidinum (a tubercular rx (in particular a phosphoric type) with skin
disorders (including brown discolorations), and emaciation despite large
appetite, depression with indifference to everything, and hair disorders)
is a possible. It is not listed for "old-looking", however, which could be
a peculiar in the case (assume a Chihuahua avg life length is typical of
other dogs (15?) so six is an unusual time to look old, esp suddenly.
However, it might be considered at some point in the case over time.
Best wishes with this little dude
Best,
Andy

Re: Homeopathic help sought for little dog
Dear Helga,
Sorry for not having replied earlier - I only received this message now.
And anyway, not knowing more of the specifics I cannot be of much
help. I can only tell you that I have recently seen Ruta work well in
a *somewhat* similar case. I also know that Sil. and Calc. c. are
often given (with good results) against thyroid disorders in animals.
But, obviously, the condition should be evaluated in all its details.
I do wish you or your friends find a good homeopath, so that he/she
can offer proper help. I am sure MUCH can be done for this dog!
I hope it all goes well - and I hope you let us know how it goes.

Dear all,
IMHO, the discussion in the group should concentrate on the treatment of
human rather than devoting much time to the lesser creature using
Homeopathy.
Perhaps, some could initial another group for discussion on these creature
lest some readers may think that homeopathy is good for the lesser creature
and not for human at all ( as the allopathy has always think less of
homeopathy ... ..... ....... ).
Although I do note that some human beings care more for the creatures but we
homeopaths should use the art for the benefit of the human than over the
lesser creature. This is what my pastor has always emphasised.
Thank you.

Re: Homeopathic help sought for little dog
There's a very good group that deals purely with animals and is strictly
classical http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ClassicalHomeopathyPets/
NOW MR LAU - Homeopathy is for ALL LIFE that has a Vital Force. I don't
know who or what your pastor is but needs coming down off the high chair and
you do, too.
I treat all life equally, and you'd do well to cultivate those principles
also.

Re: Homeopathic help sought for little dog
not to diaparage other people's efforts, i just wanted to inform you
of my experience with the ClassicalHomeopathyPets group. it was
not very good. i found most of the people on the list to be such novices
that there was virtually no discussion on homeopathy that was useful.
i also found the members to function like groupies of the owner. when
i spoke of situations or ideas i found myself criticized for speaking out.
the owner wrote to me and told me my attitude was very bad which
amazed me since i was totally uncritical of others but had sufferred
criticism directed towards me. it made me feel that i was dealing with
people in lala land. the owner offerred to do my cats case, ignoring the
fact that didnt ask for that service, but only wanted some insight into
a physical condition that would have informed me and helped me to
come to a conclusion on my own. the defensiveness on the list coupled with
the lack of professionalism and heavy dependency on the list owner was
too much for me and i quit the group.
others may have a different experience, but i just wanted to share my own.

"Lesser creature"???? What church are you from? What happened to all of God's creatures? There is nothing more beautiful than watching homeopathy heal your pet - there's also no question about any placebo effect.

Re: Homeopathic help sought for little dog
not many facts to go on but you have
hair falling/loss
excessive sleeping and lassitude
very cold and needs heat
increase of appetite
sudden increase of sx
not so certain sx include - apparent pain (this should be tested by
touch and reaction), a possible dx of a thyroid problem (probably hypo
with the lassitude and hair loss), and an interpretation of 'being old'
I think you need to ascertain whether paralysis is occurring or not
(might indicate a brain problem), see how the dog walks or responds to
human contact, watch the eyes etc. Also to check for any parasitic
involvement and whether there is a goitre or not.
I started thinking Silicea but the need for a lot of sleep isn't really
there, possibly the Calcareas, especially Calc carb but a few other
less obvious rx ideas could include Thalamus; Pilocarpine; Graphites;
Carb sulph. Just a few ideas but you need maybe one or two more sx to
clinch a remedy with confidence, best wishes, Joy
