Staphysagria?

Post by Caro »

Hey guys,
I'm having trouble deciding on a remedy and would like to have your
insights:

Mind:
Patient is impatient, hurried (when walking, moving, driving, working),
apparent "excess" of energy, wants to keep busy. Changes occupation
constantly, seeking stimulation. Mild disposition in general. Smiley, looks
like a sweet person. Yielding disposition. Must comply with friends'
expectations, or favors he doesn't want to do. Wants everybody to get along.
"I give people too much credit". Tries put on a good face even when sad,
angry or having problems. Does not talk about his worries, bottles it all
in. Tries to avoid confrontation at all costs; does not answer back when in
a dispute, gets shaky (subjective), voice cracks, then dwells on the
confrontation for days, thinking "I should have said this or that". Loses
his cool and gets very defensive when confronted. When in altercation while
drunk (very rarely), gets violent in words (insulting) and physically
(seldom). When pressured to speak in any circumstance (private or social)
blurts out things that make no sense, makes something up or lies. Afterwards
he reflects upon it concluding "I don't even know why I said that , I just
didn't know what to say. I thought I had to say something". Patient dreads
deep conversations for fear he won't know what to say. Fear of speaking in
public, of looking stupid. Lack of confidence. Fear of failure. Fear of
losing control. Persistent sexual thoughts.

Extra info:
Medium weight, slightly bulky, medium height. Dark hair and eyes (pupils
bigger than average). Skin freckled all over, very hairy body (esp chest).
Craves stimulants (alcohol, coffee, tobacco, spices) and rich foods.

I'm thinking Staph, Anac, Nux V.
I'd love to hear your ideas.
Caro.

Hi Caro

What was the presenting complaint?
"The fact is we need any and every way of finding the right remedy; the simple simile, the simple
symptomatic similimum and the farthest reach of all - the pathologic similimum, and I maintain that
we are still well within the lines of Homoeopathy that is expansive, progressive, science fostered
and science fostering." (Dr. J. Compton Burnett)

Dear Robin:
The presenting complaints are bad itchiness around the anus, and what
appears to be a red fungus between the penis and the scrotum.

Hi Caro,

Without more gens and mods, it is difficult to guess, but Staph maybe it is - do you
have Bailey's book on the psychology of remedies ? In there he mentions the
different types. On reading and off the top of my head, I thought of remedies like
Arg.n and Med.

Here's some from Scholten on Arg.n:

" Failure through tension
Their fear of being assertive can also be the cause of failure. The tension rises
to such a degree that they no longer want to undertake anything. Their
conser-vative outlook only adds to this problem. They daren't change their
designs, their performance, their style. But there is no progress without change so
they are often confronted by explosive situations when change has become
inevitable. This is the reason of their fear of confrontation and their fear of narrow
spaces."

Not sure if that helps, but if there is any more info, please do share.

Dear Caro, as always the presenting complaint is invaluable and glad
Robyn asked what it is.

If you get a case with plenty of seemingly rich emotional sx such as
you write it is tempting to forget about the PC but it can be vital in
defining the simillimum.

But, a few questions

you say 'mild disposition' and yet they want a lot of stimulation, are
very impatient and hurried - so what sort of situations create these
differences, they seem contradictory - is because they are under
pressure to be dutiful to others, sort of being taken over by others
(common sx in those who have fungus or parasitic states)

what sort of rich food do they like, do you mean fatty food, any chance
they crave bacon fat at all or something like it

is there any odour about this person

what is sleep like

any h/o liver problems

I am thinking of a particular rx here so i might as well say what it is
:-) Have a look at Tellurium. Some more physical sx might be of use.
best, Joy

Thanks a lot, Joy and Barbara!
I've had this patient for a while now. I tried Med.
I have Bailey's book. He does look like the "subdued Staph" picture he
presents. Still haven't tried Staph for him, and now it seems to fit better
upon talking to him more.
Now he came back with the fungus (almost a year later). Arg N and Tell are
both great suggestions. Thanks for the interesting Scholten extract,
Barbara.
Now for Joy's questions/comments:
There is a strong sense of duty (I have already given him Aurum in the
past).
Other than stimulants, he really craves dairy (Arg N) more than fried foods.
Craves coca-cola (sweets? Arg N?).
His perspiration odor is strong but definitely not garlicky. No breath odor.

Trouble falling asleep but once he's out, he's out.
No liver problems.
A lot of Tell definitely fits skin sx and Arg N great fit for mind sx :-)
I'm gonna go read some MM now. Thanks so much, girls.
Caro.

Indeed, a very interesting case, dear Caro! On going through the
symptomatology, Staph, Arg-n, Nux-v, Lyc, Med and Tub come upon my
mind. In such cases where a number of remedies compete, I normally
search for few more symptoms to decide the Rx. If, however, there is
nothing more striking, then I would first opt for Medorrhinum in this
case (the "excess" of energy, hurry, high sex drive, excess of
timidity in appearing public - all are excesses!, which is the keynote
of Medorrhinum).

Regards.

KAMAL.

Hi Kamal, Caro,

You said "In such cases where a number of remedies compete", your comment
reminded me that it can also be a indication to consider Carc., if the family history
supports this.
