Hi all,

Have been sitting on the list for a little while. Will jump in on this
one.

When patients are,

- in hospital and unable to take frequent doses

- demented and confused in aged care - unable to take frequent doses

- confused at home and will forget instructions

- severely depressed and not able to take frequent doses due to apathy
and indifference

- mentally unstable or psychotic making it impossible for them to
reliably dose

- shaking (Parkinsons, etc) and will spill a liquid medicine

- too weak to effectively succuss the bottle

- unable to fully grasp the homeopathic process and likely to dose
inappropriately (In spite of clear written instructions I am
frequently amazed what people get up to with their medicines upon
leaving my clinic - and they are only the ones I hear about!)

- frightened of being poisoned and one liquid dose will not be enough
to deal with this fear (commonly presents in a case as over-concern
about environmental pollutants, etc. Have had many cases where
relatives report to me after a patient misses their follow-up
appointment, "he was too frightened to take the medicine - was worried
about what was in it." One longer acting dry dose before they leave my
clinic ensures they come back and continue treatment.)

- skeptical or suspicious and unlikely to follow through with dosing

- babies or infants (or adults) who are unable to report their
response and are being dosed by parents (or relatives) unfamiliar with
homeopathy who may overmedicate them.

- some animal treatments for above reason.
Don't you find these are common scenarios in practice?

Good list, Fran! Actually, the posology is just as individual as the
patient, with just as many variables to consider, and it's good to have a
range of possible approaches available, including dry dose pellets.

I find the position I'm taking in this discussion really ironic, because
generally I'm the one advocating for water potencies and LMs!!

I'm a 6th edition prescriber (thanks to David Little) and find the methods amazing - both in terms of control of the case (no unexpected violent aggravations) and in terms of the use of changes in the number of succussions and dilutions in order to fine-tune the treatment. As a beginner, these methods are a boon, allowing me to prescribe with much more confidence, and much less fear of doing harm. Initially I was using dry doses in acutes, but I've discovered that the water doses work just as well if not better - again making it easier to manage the case. The power of one poppy-seed sized pill never ceases to amaze me.
However - I've found it's true that it's difficult to apply the methods where compliance is problematic - although that can be true of a dry dose as well. It can also be difficult to deal with pharmacies who aren't prepared to deviate from what they are used to doing in terms of preparation of remedies.
The question is whether to just accept that in these cases the best methods homeopathy has to offer can't be used, or whether to try to find ways around these situations. Any homeopathic drug companies out there willing to produce ampules of liquid doses for daily use? Could such ampules be succussed effectively before taking? Far fetched perhaps, but sometimes a more far fetched suggestion brings about a less far fetched, practical solution (no pun intended...).
Regards,
Vera
