Kitten with a problem

Post by Barbara Hamilton »

Hi anyone with veterinary experience!

I have heard from a friend that her new kitten (2-3 months
old) has developed a 'tremor', particularly when sitting,
but pronounced in the back leg (left, I think), which makes
her a little wobbly when standing or walking. She wondered
whether it could be the 'flea treatment', or whether the
kitten has some virus - or is it more likely to be a neural
/ physiological dysfunction ? I remember some time back
there was a discussion about animals with neurological
problems, but I'm afraid I don't know how to access the
archives, nor where to look if I do ! So any ideas and
input would be appreciated. (Sorry it is not much to go
on).

Best, Barbara

It could be the flea treatments, which are all horribly poisonous, or
it could be vaccine damage, which affects the nerves particularly. You
or she could go to our website at for a
little more specific information.

This sounds as if there might be some damage to the pelvic area and it
would be worth taking the kitten to see a vet. I have many cats and
have seen something like this before.

Hi Angela, all,

Thanks for the input.

Update on the kitten - it was taken to the vet, where thermometer
confirmed it had a temperature (hence the shivers). It was probably
from an infected scratch under the chin area, and it was put on a/b's.
Now fine. As one physician said to me a long time ago re illness - the
common things are commoner.

C'est la vie. :-)

Regards, Barbara
