Yikes, I keep trying to stay out of this and hope it will die, but this is a
good and interesting point... At what point, and in what way, should
"concern" become "public action"? And how much list time should it be
given, and under what circumstances?

<<<<<<<<<< But going back to the original cause of all this was an article on Alcoholism. Not an easy case for anyone to deal with, but the lister had asked David if he would help him with the problem. From what I could see, David was handling the situation very professionally and very honestly. Alva then pointed out that she did 'distant consultations'. David responded by saying exactly what he thought of Alva's approach to homeopathy. And Alva responded with a mouthful of obscenities.

<<<<<<<<<< On her website Alva classes herself as a Dr of Homeopathy and a Dr of Natropathy. She's not a classical homeopath and doesn't claim to be. Now, if we had a strong classical foundation to adhere to - this situation would never have occurred in the first place. Alva would not have posted that on this list but if she had, then David would have had every right to point out to the rest of the list the situation. BUT, thereagain, Ardavan, in his introduction to the MINUTUS group, has clearly stated that THIS IS a classical homoepathic list!!!
And for those who wanted it left alone to continue -- if you look into your
motives, what were they -- belief that this is for "the good of the
community", or plain ol' entertainment (but is it entertaining to watch
someone getting lynched?), or something closer to voyeurism?

<<<<<<<<<< You've left out psychology. Quite a few people had expressed the wish that the discussion be taken off list, but both Alva and David continued to air it publicly. When somebody mentioned they may as well enjoy the 'entertainment', the postings have now gone off list.

<<<<<<<<<< Many many many years ago a girl, Denise was her name, had gone to a friend of mine threatening to commit suicide because she had no money, no friends, no relatives that cared for her, and nothing to live for and she was determined she was going to end it all and nothing my friend could say to her would convince her otherwise. Louise, my friend, went and got her purse and handed Denise a lot of loose coins, 10p I believe. When Denise asked what they were for, Louise told her that she would need them for the gas cooker, as gassing herself would be the quickest and easiest way to end it all, and that she had already told her that she didn't have any money! After some thought, Denise did say that she had a bit of money. So Louise said, well you haven't got any friends and you've got relatives that don't care for you, so by ending it now, no one's going to really miss you. Denise started to list a few she knew that really did care. etc. etc. Needless to say, Denise didn't commit suicide and Louise hadn't said anything to her to try and persuade her otherwise - she simply let Denise do that herself. Of course, Louise didn't want Denise commiting suicide but knew that if she tried to talk her out of it, Denise would have talked herself into it.
