TPB- (was Newer remedies, requesting article- Roberts)

Post by vtyekkirala »

Hi,
The important piece of information that lies embedded
deeply inside the introduction of the H.A.Roberts edition of
Boenninghaussen's Therapeutic Pocket book and which the translators ,
H.A.Roberts etc, should have made it clear in the beginning itself is as
follows.

"Now we pass to a consideration of the translation
of rubrics. Unfortunately it has been impossible to
secure an original German copy of the Pocket Book,
therefore comparisons have been made by the tedious
method of comparing the text in Allen's edition,
rubric by rubric, with those in Hempel's translation,
and where there has been question, these have been
compared with other available editions and the
remedies therein taken to the materia medica as well
for differentiation of meanings. This work has been
completed so far as the comparison of the repertories
is concerned ; it has not been possible at this time
to carry all questionable rubrics to the materia
medica for verification. Therefore, we trust that the
physician will follow the same guidepost in using the questionable
rubrics that have not been verified as he must follow in selecting the
simillimum from the similar remedies ; that guidepost reads: GO TO THE
MATERIA MEDICA. Some of these rubrics are noted where there is a close
analogy, in order to give to the rubric the broadest possible meaning.
Wherever there is definite reason for the choice of one rubric over
another, this is indicated by a star. It is suggested that where a
rubric has been found incorrect in its title, the correction be made in
the book."

In fact this was the major draw back of this translation of TPB that
kept many from approaching it. Now that a revival of interest in this
work is on
I request anyone using this method to please share them with the list.

with best wishes,
V.T.Yekkirala.

Get the Boenninghausen Therapeutic Pocket Book Method by George Dimitriadis.
There are NO questions about this one.
Each rubric WAS compared to the German, and the English accurately
translated by comparing (when needed) the materia medica of the
remedies IN the rubric to understand what the rubric was about. There
is a 69 page appendix (in very small type) which explains the
translation of each rubric.

Dear Julian and VT Yekkirala,
I would also love to see Dimitriadis' book. But the
need for a better translation and upgradation was
already fulfilled by Boger himself.

I read that Boger went thru each rubric in German
(since he was not satisfied with the existing
translation) and translated the original into English.

Plus, he offered his own in terms of regional(local)
sensations regional modalities and regional
concomittants in addition to general ones. (this is
one more helpful area).

Boenninghaussen method:
location-sensation-modality-concomittant

Boger's method;(uses)
location-
sensation(local)-
sensation(general)
modality(local)
modality(general)
time(local)
time(general)
concomittant(local)
concomittant( general(?))

This method is a big step over Boenninghausen method.
For those who want Boenninghausen only can skip locals
and go general and still they are get what they want.
But IMO Boger satisfied the criticism from Hering that
Boen's method generalises too much( by taking local
modalities as general) . For those wanting to see the
Boger's philosophy download from the Homeoint site.(or
ask me privately).

Another plus of Boger over TPB by Allen is that he
added remedies in all their components viz location,
sensation and modalities. Allen did only part in
locations and sensations. He did not complete the
modalities. But Boger was updating on a regular basis.
Though his final edition contained new entries in
part, it was published when Boger had passed away in
the middle.

Boger's understanding of Concordances is another
factor for its authority. I request all to compare
Allen and Boger for a rubric comparison and see the
remedy representation. The time spent will be
worthwhile.

TAIL PIECE: I read Karl Robinson's interview on his
practice on the net. He says that he achieved very
good success practicing in spanish speaking American
countries. He knew no spanish and just understood the
trouble in its location-sensation and modality and
used Boen's method fully using the general disposition
as the only mental. This converted him fully . Another
plus was he operated on a less than 150 remedy
pharmacy.

Dear JV,
I too am interested in Dimitriadis' book. If you happen to buy it let me
know its cost and the source.

To talk in practical terms , let us consider a case of IBS in which the
prominent symptom is general amel during diarrhea.
Now I referred in Boger's book and found it not mentioned at all.
You may say, look under ERUPTIONS, discharges suppressed agg;
but the list of remedies mentioned therein does not contain important
ones like abrot, nat-s, podo etc., So we are missing the very remedies
we are insearch of. Please let me know if you happen to see them
elsewhere
in the Boger's book.
The purpose of any rep is to guide us to a group of remedies for our
comparing them in MMs. So if some of the major remedies are filtered
out at this stage itself where do we land. It is here the latest reps
like Syn
and Complete score over all their predecessors.imho.
regards,
V.T.Yekkirala.

Dear VT,
I think it is a technicality.
In IBS the Primary complaint will be the usual pain
in the stomach/epigastrium etc . Since the diarrhea is
a concomittant, I looked in epigastrium- amel-
diarrhea
where Arg -n is the only remedy. Like wise, you may
look
up for the other single sx.(page 531/ bjain copy)

Similarly, in Abdomen, amel, diarrhea after, canth,
natc
pg 566

This single symptom can be squared up using
sensations and other peculiars to make it foolproof.

There is also stool section, where stool before,
during
and after are mentioned. There also you may find some.

The kent/synthesis pattern of Rectum/diarrhea is not
followed in Boger. Constipation and diarrhea are in
stool section.

I think it helps. If you can give me more of the case,
perhaps I can tell where to look for since I have
been having an association for some time now.

Regards
Venkat

Dear JV,
Actually, this case has no pain. It starts some time after getting up
in the morning. The first stool then would always be a normal one.
Then he will have progressively more fluid ones irrespective of
eating/drinking/fasting.
The whole thing stops by noon or at the most by AN only to repeat the
next day likewise.
Some of the remedies hold for some time and the pt then complains that
he was better of with the diarr than without in terms of his energy
level
and general well being.
He underwent colonoscopy and was Dxed as IBS.
Another symptom that he recently came up with is a pain in the back
dorsal region when standing or sitting with his back unsupported.
Would greatly appreciate it if this can be worked out at your end
and any suggestions from any quarter are welcome.
There are no other symptoms to go by.
Thanks in advance,
V.T.Yekkirala.

Dear VT

Boger:Pg 602: stool- concomittants after stool: lumbar
pain
2 alu,2 berb,2 carb v,2 colch,2dig,2 dros,2mag
m,plat,2 pul, 2sul

pg 603: time: morning on and after raising:
3alo,2ap, 3bry, 2 calc p, 2 cham, 2 chel,2chin, 2 crot
t, 2 fl ac,
2 kali bi, 2 nat c, 5 nat s, 3 nux v, 3 petr,2 pho,2
rho,3 sul

daytime only: 2 nat m, 4 petr( with caution)

pg 1113 : agg & amel in general: discharges amel: 2
cimi,4 lach, 4 sul

pg 1103: condition in general- time- daytime agg-2
cimi, 2 fer, 3 med,
3 natm,2 nux v,2 rhus t,2 sang,3 sep. 3 sul

pg 802 back:aggravation: rising after: 2carb v,2 ign,
2petr, 2stap
rising from sitting: 3
aecs,3 agar,2 alo, 4 argn,
3 bell, 3 calc p, 2 canth, 4
caus, 3 fer, 2 kali b,
2 ver a.

IMHO, petr, sul, lach deserve attention.Arg n to a
lesser degree. Since
he said " I fell better when I have diarrhea" the sx
discharges amel
is important. But these get washed out when you cross
them with
stool; diarrhea; painless: pg 585:only bell, ferr,
ign,
kali b,pho, pul, sul, ver a come thru.
I leave the MM reading( the most difficult one) to you
and members.

Hope it helps.
