Newer remedies

Post by Christine Wyndham-Thomas »

I'm using Kent's repertory and MM and notice that a lot of remedies you mention aren't quoted, which I assume must be newer ones.

Can anyone tell me if I can get a better and more up-to-date MM and repertory that would list the newer remedies?

Boericke, Hering(guiding Symptoms), Allen's
encyclopaedia, Lotus materia medica- Robin Murphy,
Dictionary -By Clarke are reliable mms where you can
find almost all remedies. Jeremy sherr has proved new
rx recently. You can buy his book directly.
Synthesis and complete rep are the new repertories. If
you are buying a software package you will find all
the mms plus the either one or both of the reps there.

I would stay away from the Murphy rep.
Its alphabetical nature leads you away from understanding the
construction of the repertory (Kent) and, therefore, when one moves
to a fuller repertory which are Kent based (Complete/ Synthesis) you
can get really lost.
Furthermore, by re-naming rubrics into newer disease names (i.e.,
Depression, instead of sadness) the user can get easily sucked into
using an inappropriate rubric-- leading to a mistaken choice of
remedy.
AND... there are no annotations as ton where any of the additions
came from. I want to know WHO added that remedy to that rubric. Not
ALL additions are equally valuable.
I would approach the Murphy repertory with great hesitancy, although
I like his MM.

First:
The Boenninghausen Therapeutic Pocket Book Method by George
Dimitriadis. This is the first modern revision in English since Allen
did his in 1891.
The book is available from Dimitriadis in Australia.
It is the BEST Pocket Book available, and the 69 page appendix that
outlines the meaning and source of each rubric is well worth the
price.

Second: Again, by Dimitriadis: Homeopathic Diagnosis. This small
volume (which I am reviewing currently) is the handbook to understand
how to use the Boenninghausen method. It is incredibly precise and
contains many cases from Dimitriadis' practice over the last five
years while using the method.

It IS a METHOD. And Kent never understood it. It requires a deep
understanding of what a "complete symptom" is (location, sensation,
modality) and is not as easy to use as Kent-- in which you can pick a
bunch of unrelated symptoms to throw into an analysis.
Yet, almost all of the old greats said that when faced with a chronic
case with few specifics, Boenninghausen was always helpful in finding
a remedy.

You should understand that it contains only 135 remedies-- but in
Dimitriadis' experience many cases resolve with this limited set--
most of which were never tried because the symptoms (as seen from the
Kent perspective) never pointed to the remedy.
And... although Gelsemium is NOT represented, as a homeopath, you
should KNOW Gelsemium and recognize it when it presents.

So... step one is to get a reliable Boenninghausen repertory (as
above) and then get the guidebook (as above). The only person I know
in the USA who is really using the method is Karl Robinson, MD-- who
studied with Dimitriadis in Australia.

Here are my few cents worth.
In your opinion what's the best source for learning

Also the introduction by Roberts to Allen's American
edition. A few cases also are given. Roberts was one
of the last few to have exclusively used this
repertory though as admitted by him , he had sixty and
odd repertories. He calls it the most perfect ,
foolproof one.

But as one considers sepia with Nat m, also think of
another neglected work, Boger's rep. Here boger gives
general agg's and amel's together with particular
agg's and amel's- the absence of which was criticised
by many the notable being Hering.

Another doctor using boen and boger is Hans
weitbrecht, at he has
some fabulous material. I have a fair rate of success
with Boger's since the 'working with analogy' throws
up many strange combinations which were never
witnessed during proving. For e.g hans states a case
where constipation during travel was the complaint.
Boger: constipation + travelling agg gave sepia as the
top remedy though it was not so in mm's. The rx
promptly did service. Kent somewhere says 'we have to
work by analogy. For this the therapeutic pocket book
is valuable'.

My own case of asthma, of a child, resp
difficult-midnight-open air agg-sitting up amel- threw
up nux v. One dose in 30c stopped the three year old
wheezing for the first time the same night. It was my
first prescription with Boger and I was wonderstruck.

I saw (have copy) of a will taylor article on Boger's
rep on a moschus case of Asthma (tho he solved it with
a computer rep additional feature of small rx listing)
The end piece is as good where he says, the indicated
rx if worked well, will also point to the follow well
one using the concordant chapter ( which has not been
equalled so far in repertory compilation. Nash says,
"if boen gave us only the relationships and nothing
else, he would still be immortal")

The Roberts article and will taylor article are stored
in my PC and will be glad to send to you.
Regards
Venkat

Dimitriadis is critical of Roberts' intro. I found Roberts' little
work (which was appended to all the Pocket Books after it was written

enough.
The best explanation I've seen is in Dimitriadis' new book,
Homeopathic Diagnosis-- which is filled with examples of cases. It is
available direct from Dimitriadis at . I do not
know the price.
A good work.
Itr is uinteresting that in the first American edition, translated by
Okie, the Concordances were removed because Okie didn't understand
them.
They are an invaluable addition-- but you have to understand how
Boenninghausen through to understand how to use them.
