oedema
Re: oedema
Why can't this be incorprated into the case taking in the usual
manner? Why and how has he got Lymphoedema, did it begin
one side then another, is it painful, what sensations are there
such as heaviness etc, is it hard or soft, are the legs full of
prominent veins, is the noon time modality a characteristic sx,
how does this person feel with it, how does it fit in with the rest of
the case, etc etc. You need to know more about this.

Re: oedema
This is a difficult one as he (age 45) is so grossly obese (can't be weighed on hospital scales) Last known weight 26 stone but far more than that now that he can't roll up his trousers to show me and I am not asking him to drop them!!!! I suppose I could ask his wife to come along!! His legs are hard , lumpy, pitted and leather like - he talks of ulcers on them but what he describes are not my idea of ulcers, more unbroken lumps. and anyway they aren't there now after a few months of constitutional treatment. His legs were a purple colour but now are more pink. He says that when the lymphoedema is bad the colour changes to red and creeps up his leg. His right knee is painful since he smashed it in a bike accident in 1975. The pains in his knees are sharp and > stretching. He has now started at a gym and walks on the treadmill for 2 mins at a time. He gets very breathless just walking up my path but really that is not surprising with the size of him. The lymphoedema has crept up on him over the years. I would like to stop the swelling from noonish from happening.

Re: oedema
Rochelle,
I did sulphur on the same patient first, to eliminate that color and
swelling in his legs.
Maybe that would help?

Re: oedema
Dear Alva and Pierre,
I have read the Rx and I have to say that I can't find any reason to give Hoang to him. He also doesn't have glandular cancer but there is H/O a theme of destruction and shock as in disappointment that Pierre mentioned. I take it Pierre that this is from Sankaran's Insights. I don't have the book only what you have already told us which is on my Isis programme. His constitutional Rx is Puls and it does have the same amount of swelling and oedema as Sulphur does. I have just repeated it. I note that Sulphur follows on well from Puls and is also an antidote. Do you still think it is worth try the Hoang or not?

Re: oedema
Hi Rochelle,
I would use your own intuition, but it removes sarcomas, even small, that
block the lymphatic system.
Sometimes they are there but undetectable in a patient such as yours.
I would definitely use the sulphur as well.
If he were my case, I would give one dose of Hoang nan 30C and wait,
meanwhile give sulphur until his legs turn a normal color and the swelling
goes away.

Re: oedema
I would give 200C once and wait.
Then watch to see if his legs have improved, and if so, give another dose
and wait.
The two remedies should work together to jazz his lymphatic system up and
drain that water off.
I would also give spleen nosode 4C.

Re: oedema
You will still need much more information to help differentiate
between potentially hundreds of remedies. How does it make
him feel, is the dx of lymphoedema correct and useful, what
about dropsy and anasarca, how has he got to be so obese, is
the 12 noon time modality a characteristic sx, how useful is the
h/o destruction and disappointment you mentioned. In my
opinion you shouldn' t be treating these parts separately (i.e. his
swollen legs) - there is obviously a lot going on in this case.
Echinacea, Ledum, Hippoz, Collinsonia, Fucus, Rhus tox, have
you considered Graphites or the Ammoniums which are all
obese, swollen, often have h/o destruction and disappointment.
Purple swollen legs make you think of the snakes - there really
are so many and there's no quick fix but you will only find the
simillimum by doing more work on the case.

Re: oedema
Just had a patient in who I have not seen for a few months. Her son has been very ill with complications from chicken pox - mostly cellulitis but since then she has become oedematous in that the right leg looks twice the size of the left leg. Her fingers are also swollen and she has difficulty getting rings on. She is at her worst in the morning. I found precious little in the rep and nothing for oedematous fingers at all except a rubric with 1 unknown (to me) Rx from a minor rep. Her skin is not red and shiny hence I don't think Apis would help her. When I pressed the pale skin went in but didn't leave an impression. She thinks it is because she hasn't been able to do any exercise with a sick child. Her skin feels really tight in the morning (from the oedema) and needs movement to get is going.
Every remedy I have given her in the past has helped her for the things she came with (Carc, Choc, Lyco, Sepia, Gels(for a flu) so obviously I have not found her similimum as yet. I don't feel any of these Rx fit the bill this time. The only other things she brought up were itching skin with no eruption although she has got a few pimples scabbed over were she has scratched and an anxiety about money that has been there all the time. She came with a headache which I got rid of with EFT throbbing occiput and forehead. She doesn't want to be touch at the moment but that is to do with the skin itching which is < warmth of the bed. She has had a thyroid test but since she has not had any results from it she presumes all is OK. She is not thirsty.
Any suggestions where I can go with this case or suggestions of remedies to look at will be gratefully received.

Re: oedema
Could this have been passed on to her from her son with the CP and
cellulitis? Has there been any cut or abrasion that might have caused
erysipelas (even though there appears to be no redness)? Has she had CP
herself and might be fending off another occurence? Has she had her
heart checked out? Do you any other modalities apart from >> movement -
Rhux tox? Sulphur? << morning - Lachesis?
Could it be an allergic state? There are 100's rx that have swollen
fingers. Anxiety about money + what you write = Arsenicum? Joy
