Re: Migraine
It is perhaps also interesting to know more about how he copes once he has
the headaches. I have some patients who need to lie absolutely still and in
the dark with cold compresses - and others who complain, moan, still
function somewhat. It is possible to see an indication for a remedy in the
method/strategy for coping a patient has. I have had amazing success with
Bryonia, and one with Spigelia, both these prescriptions based on the exact
headaches and the coping strategy - I don't think the prescriptions were
'constitutional' in either of those cases. Anneke

Re: Migraine
He has to go to bed and sleep. he likes his mother's bed because it's softer then his. He has to stay perfectly still. When he wakes the headache is weaker.. He goes back to sleep to seep it off completely. he wants to be alone to sleep but needs to know that Mum is around. he can also cry with the pain but Mum reckons it is a "woe is me" cry. Mum has given him cold compresses and he says they don't help . He has found that a hot bath relieves and then he goes back to bed.

Re: Migraine
Dear Rochelle
I rep the case in different ways and Nux-v is always at the top.
There is a contradiction between what mother says:
I don't feel this is a Nux teenager as "he doesn't get angry" says Mum
and what he says:
"If I am a bit short tempered I will lash out and go quite crazy" or
"Last week I chucked my tennis racquet into the hedge when I did a bad shot"
You should decide who has more credibility of both because you rejected Nux-v
because of that I think, maybe the mother think he is an angel now comparing
when he was younger (just especulating)
I give you some entries I used that haven't been proposed before:
Fear, general failure of
Contradiction, intolerant of
Weeping, after anger (I' m not sure of this, the question to ask would be, why
you cry when you are defeated: anger, grief, etc..)
Head, pain sleep after
If you still think he is not a nux-v teenager, maybe you are right, nothing is
absolute
but nux-v (for ex. 30 C) may alleviate his headache until a more appropiate
constitutional is found because is quite similar to the case.
I hope it helps
sincerely

something I found on the last post about cat question:
Shannon that is an interesting question Re Nux and the irritability b/c when
Nux are sick they are stay at home types that want their partner to look
after them and they like repose from the world. This is important b/c Nux
are irritable when they are out int he world and they feel very comfortable
being irritable and competitive. This will often be the distinguishing
characteristic b/n Nux and Lyc. Lyc when sick still treat their partner the
same if not worse whereas Nux wll have a partner that looks after them when
they are sick!

Dear Dr. Guillermo Pagura
Thanks for your 2 posts. At this present moment I do not see any signs of Nux as a constituional Rx for this boy. I will see how the case goes and will keep it as a consideration.

Re: Migraine
I would be interested to know what anyone makes of this in the form of possible remedies. It was very difficult to exact from this woman what the migraines would be like if she didn't take the medication Naramig!! She has had them all her life (now 62 in a high powered job) but they have been worse the last 20 years. They can start any time of the day or when out walking. < since whiplash injury.
I am sick, can't walk, shivers and shakes, can't lie down, want a hot water bottle, a dark room and want to die. Food is nauseating. It is always between the eyes and I get a numbness down the right side of my face. It is also on the top of my head and there is the nausea. It can start any time of the day and night."
I gave her Carc the first time I saw her and it has got rid of her "sensitive stomach and diarrhoea" and also an eye discharge got worse and they disappeared. She feels better in herself but no change in the migraines.
Thanks

Re: Migraine
Can you say something about her nature - if not then Chelidonium and
Platina are 2 rx that have really awful headaches with numbness in the
face + the usual nausea and vomiting which is very common with
migraines but the numbness is high ranking. Best wishes, Joy

Re: Migraine
Just had a bit of a brainstorm with this - she's had them all her life
- can you ask her if she can remember if they might have occurred
during or after a childhood acute or maybe she's had shingles - anyway
I would add Mezereum to the list to consider. Best wishes, Joy

Re: Migraine
Starting - due to injury -
we can consider the chrnonic effects of injuries
warmth ( external) ameliorates - one main medicine that comes thru
is Stront.carb
Feeling cold( shivers etc) all over in headache - Ign
generally with pain - Puls
warmth is Nux mos
Shivering ( trembling? of limbs) with headache - Glon, this has if it is a neuralgic headache)-
Is the headache neuralgic or vascular? Is there throbbing or just
pulling, drawing etc.
Is there a specific concrete trigger- if I do this I will definitely
get the headache kind of thing??
What were the "sensitive stomach" and diarrhea? We are talking about
many decades worth of headache here and all of this information
might be pertinent. What was the eye discharge like?
Is there a Puls somewhere here or Arg.nit?

Re: Migraine
Your questions are a bit tricky to answer but here goes.
She has been on HRT since 1989 because of osteopenia.
"I have a sensitive stomach and get diarrhoea which is strange because as a child I always had constipations as wouldn't go to the loo out of the house." Sorry no more details because she came for the migraines and the fact that she has had so many various infections since Easter.. Bacterial conjunctivitis, suspected appendicitis, chest infection, shingles. Hopefully you can see why I gave her Carc although there were other indications.(abuse in late teens, grief H/0 family cancer)
When I saw her on Tuesday she said:-
"The first week after the remedy I felt dreadful. I had an infection in my eyes and the same sort of discharge as I have had before. The eye stuff has gone now."
"I haven't had any of the painful pains in my stomach and no awful pains with diarrhoea. It is much more settles and has calmed down."
She had no improvement with the Migraine. We started talking about whiplash and past head injuries and I gave her Nat Sulph 30. I did think of Chel on the modalities I repped but bottled out of it not sure why now.
Today she contacted me by email:-
I am not used to getting reactions as bad as this with my patients- maybe I have just been lucky!!! Hope some of this may be helpful for someone to suggest what I do now other than wait and hope!!
