Dear Anna,
Thanks for the discussion, it is really good to have different viewpoints
thoroughly discussed - and we should always question the conclusions of those we
seek to learn from . No unquestioned Guru's please! I'd like to think I don't
belong to the flat earth brigade and I do try to look into other developments
from the roots of homeopathy as surely it can be allowed to grow and move
forward. Personally though, I found combining remedies a dead end, and too
difficult to work with in the long term.

While trying to understand multi remedy prescribing I came across a person
who had been prescribed several remedies to take together.(by a homeopath with a
record of success this way) The problem came with the third appointment. Some
things were improved, other were not. It was open to discussion whether one
of the remedies in particular was acting in direction of cure and therefore
needed longer to finish it's action, or whether it was being proved, because of
some more superficial symptoms which had appeared. A deeper action may have
been being masked by the suppression of another of the remedies. It took a long
time to decide what to continue and what to stop, and we will never work out
what was being suppressed. All the remedies had some resonance in the case, but
which was homeopathic and could continue the improvement could not be found.
I suppose the conclusion I came to personally was that it did matter what was
doing what when it came to knowing how to progress further. One remedy had to
be given in the hope of a clearer picture.
For me, I can only cope with applying homeopathic principles one remedy at a
time, but it's not because following a doctrine is sacred! Let those who have
success with combinations, and whose clients want them, continue, even if it's
not homeopathy as I know it.

I'm not very clever really, and don't post often, so I hope you don't mind me
being stimulated to post now -I think it is good exercise for us to think
about what we do and why. Right now I'm only able to post now as I can't work
properly as I lost my voice over a month ago (has anyone seen it?) and haven't
found the remedy. It warbles when I try to talk, is very low pitched, soon
dries up altogether, and doesn't respond to Causticum or rest! Any ideas welcome.
