Dear Ishtiaq,
Welcome! Nice to know you! I hope you enjoy this group as I do. I too am fairly new to the Group and so have not so far had much to say in discussion. However, it is certainly informative and lively.
I live on the north coast of Scotland by the Pentland Firth - a wild stretch of water!
I am studying by correspondence with the British Inst. of Homoeopathy for a Dip.I. Hom.
Sincerely,
David.

Hello!

I am new among you too. I'd like to introduce myself and ask a question, if
I may. My name is Anna and I have only joined this group in the last few
days. I have been studying homeopathy passively for quite a long time with
the help of an uncle who is a retired MD / homeopath. He inspired me to want
to learn. Now I would like to formalise my study of homeopathy. I travel
about a lot because of my job, and so I am looking for a good distance
learning course. I am based in the US at the moment, but will then be
spending some time in London. I would be grateful if anyone could point me
in the right direction.

David, you mentioned that you are doing a correspondence course. Is it a
good one, do you think? I imagine it would be, otherwise you wouldn't be
doing it! ;-)

Thanking you all in advance for any suggestions you can offer.

Hello Anne, and welcome to the group.
Can you study independently, without the support of a class, and a tutor?
(Some people can, some find it difficult). If you can you could look at a
distance learning course - then it would not matter where you were - you
take the work with you.

If so, get in touch with the British Institute of Homeopathy.
(Britinsthom@compuserve.com) I studied with them and I found the course and
the 'distance' support excellent. You can also do each module that leads to
qualification seperately so you don't have to commit yourself entirely at
the earliest stages.

Otherwise, have a look at the Alliances "Which Homeopathic Course" on
www.a-r-h.org - most of the UK colleges are featured (including BIH) and
they describe what is involved in their courses.

Good luck!

Dear Anna,

The British Institute of Homeopathy would enable you to study by
correspondence both in the US and in the UK as they have bases in both countries.

I know about them through having some of their students attending my
students' clinic in the UK (south west London). I also have contacts with one of their
tutors in the USA.

I hope this helps.

Best wishes for the future.

Grace

Hello Anna,
Welcome to the Group and I hope you, like me find it stimulating and useful.
You enquire about courses. Well the British Institute of Homoeopathy Dip.I.Hom Course, for which I have completed a third of the syllabus, is interesting and suits my circumstances in that I live in a remote area of the north coast of Scotland.
Facilities such as a College of Homoeopathy do not exist for at least 100 miles.
You mention some time in the USA as well as in London (UK), so I expect you would be able to continue studies without experiencing any transitional problems.
If you have any other questions to ask me, or the Group, please get in touch.
Good luck,
Dave.

Dear Steve and everyone who answered me publicly and privately

Thank you all for your great responses to my query. The British Institute of
Homeopathy seems to be a very popular choice, and so I have been to look at
the website.

There is only one thing that perplexes me. More than one private message I
received has said, or strongly implied, that you need to be a religious
christian to study at the B.I.H or at least the one in America, where I am
based at present. I have been told that most of the discussions between
students and tutors are to do with the bible and religious interpretations
of healing and that they have priests for tutors. I personally would not be
drawn to this kind of thing. I didn't know that homeopathy was a religious
thing for some people, certainly my uncle didn't teach it to me that way!
The B.I.H seems a good choice for me in some ways but I am worried as I
don't want my learning to become indoctrinated by someone else's system of
belief. I have no problem with anyone's desire to worship, I have to add. I
just don't want to do it myself.

I will keep looking, and thank you all again for your help.

Anna de Burgo
