Just to note re cretaegus -- it is also used as food, and as I understand,
there is no risk whatever to using the tincture. I sometimes give it to my
kids, and they do very nicely with it. (Presumably it doesn't bring their
blood pressure down, as they don't need that! It's a "normalizer", not a
drug.)

For some years (15 approx.) my blood pressure has been concerning my GP -
he has persistently insisted that I should accept 'his' allopathic medicine.
He has exercised a great deal of patience whenever I would point out that
finding an appropriate remedy/homoeopath is 'around the corner'. I have had
several homoeopathic consultations, which sometimes yeilded dramatic results
- to be later reversed. At one point the figures really concerned my
homoeopath at that time. I eventually accepted that I had a maintaining
cause.
About 20 years ago (as Chairman of a Homoeopathic Group) I attended a
lecture, in Liverpool, UK - and the presenting homoeopath was talking about
aggravations from substances (I recall he said that the talk was not really
about allergies). He discussed wheat and its effects and explained the
investigative process involved in the study of the plant in his laboratory.
His findings were that the plant has a peculiar ability - that of
manufacture (I do hope I have recalled this correctly) - turning the
super-phosphates, which were fed to the plant, into something worse than
they were in the first place.
About 4 months ago I decided (not for any particular reason) to come of
wheat products and in 2 days my B/P fell to normal and has not risen since.

Brilliant John!!!
That is what it is all about. We should know as homeopaths more about these
things. I use the Blood Group Diets in my clinics, 50% of symptoms disappear
when client is on B/G diet the rest is down to homeopathy and other
therapies.
PS. What is your blood group anyway?

Hi everyone
I would like to say re the prescribing of herbs such as Crataegus:
I know that some homoeopaths on these lists have studied herbalism as well as other things, so I am surprised that noone has reminded those discussing tinctures that there is a way of prescribing herbal tinctures which takes into account the constitution of the client, and this determines which herb would be suitable. To give Crataegus as a blanket treatment for High BP or as a heart tonic, is no different in my view to giving a client something off the shelf in the pharmacy for their hayfever, or their piles etc......
Sure Crataegus works on the cardiovascular system, but it has properties that from my sources are more useful for CARDIOVASCULAR EXCESS, as opposed to CARDIO... DEFICIENCY. There are other herbs which work in various different ways to balance the cardiovasc. system, and each needs to be considered in the light of each case.
All I am saying is to be careful folks, and see herbal prescriptions as more complex than just looking up a book and reading a blanket description of its uses.
The energetic properties of herbs, are probably really important to be aware of as background information for Homoeopaths, in that many of our provings have been done using these tinctures.

We spend quite a bit of time reminding each other on the lists to not give this for that etc..... without carefully assessing - and I believe we should extend this with respect to the use of herbs as well.

Hi Shannon,

Way back when, I encouraged him to eat more greens and veggies, a little
less fruit, and more protein foods in his diet--he made the necessary
changes and really thrived, supplementing his diet with potassium,
magnesium, and chromium. I got him to stay away from prepared foods,
margarines, junk food, etc, which he really didn't eat that much of
anyway...and though it did little to change what was happening in his life,
he really enjoyed losing a few pounds and eating foods that didn't cause
problems, digestion-wise.

It's always a good suggestion, so I'll pass it along to him and encourage
him to eat more potassium rich foods.

Thanks!
Nancy

Hi John,

I did ask this patient of mine to alter his diet to cut out sugars and
refined wheat flours, way back when. Other changes were made (eating more
protein, eg nuts, meats, fish, good quality cheese and butter, eggs) as
well. He did experience some success with the dietary changes but has since
modified some of what he was doing to indulge a bit more often in breads,
sweets, and things he knows he really ought to cut down on.

I shall ask him to consider keeping an eye on his intake of this stuff
again.
Thanks!
Nancy

Hi Joy,

I talked to my patient today and his blood pressure readings for the past 2
days are even lower than they've been over the last week...

so it really seems to be coming down nicely...today in the low 130's over
mid 70's-mid-80's. Before his redosing on calc carb, he was reading 180+
over 95+ and it was worrying--mostly to him, which made me worried as I know
he's quite sensitive and anxious about his health (as I said, does
beautifully on the Calc Carb!). I've been collecting his figures over the
course of the last 3 weeks or so to try and get an average, as I want to
dissuade him from becoming anxious over any "high sounding" individual
results.

A few people have suggested dietary changes, which I've encouraged him to
make before--I think I'll ask him to make those again. I looked into the
pix for cretageus, and it doesn't really "fit" him, plus I'm wary of putting
him back on a tincture similar to one I asked him to stop using when he
first came to see me.

So it looks like, for now, I'm going to just wait and see what happens and
get him to make some changes to his diet that might help stabilize him
further.

Thanks again for your suggestions and help,
Nancy
