Need some information on High Blood Pressure Sx
Hi All,
I have a patient who's done extremely well on a remedy I thought was his
constitutional--Calc Carb. I recently redosed him on CC 1M as one of his
chief concerns from way back when he came to see me was High Blood
Pressure--he wanted off his meds but needed to get his readings down so that
his doctor would stop pestering him about them.
Calc Carb looked after this beautifully for over a year. Now his blood
pressures's holding steady at around mid 140's over mid 80's and 90's. It's
come down considerably from where it was before redosing (that was WAY TOO
HIGH!) but I'm still concerned because its not staying in the normal range.
I've been thinking about dosing with a higher potency, but I think this will
be quite shocking for him...and I'm also thinking that, since he feels great
and suffers from no other problems, he might like to try a cretageous mother
tincture or something for a brief time...but I have no idea how to give
this.
Anyone have any experience with this MT? How to use it? How long to use
it?
Any information from your experience would be appreciated.
Nancy

Crataegus (Hawthorn berries) is a very good herbal remedy for regulating
high blood pressure. It can be used alone or in combination with Lime
Blossom, Mistletoe and Yarrow (depending on other symptoms the patient
exhibits).
A patient has to be on Crataegus for two-three months for the benefits to
show. The usual dosage is 2-4ml of MT three times a day in some water or
fruit juice.
The best thing to do is consult a qualified herbalist near you or refer your
patient to one so the patient can be monitored regularly.
You could also think of putting your patient on Calc Carb LMs if you feel
other high potencies may shock his system.

Hi, Nancy --
The usual dose of Crataegus m.t. is 5 or 6 drops in water daily or on alternate days, depending on the severity of the problem. One Indian homeopath I know prefers Allium sativa 30c, which she says reduces BP within minutes. I've seen others use Calc-ars. with Rauwolfia m.t.
Peace,
Cinnabar

Dear Nancy, I use it in mother tincture and in potency, usually 6c. It does
need to be repeated as it is more efficient through accumulation.

Yes, I have also used Crataegus 6c with some success.
But are we not playing a game of 'medicine by numbers' here, well-beloved of
our conventional colleagues? Lots of people complain about HBP without any
noticeable symptoms. They have been worried because they are told that
anything over 140/80 is a problem. I'm not sure that it is. As a PE student
years ago I was taught that 140/80 was normal, now its a problem. Or is it
just a trigger to prescribe more anti-hypertensive drugs, and make people
worry unnecessarily.
I tend to ask people who 'complain' of HBP - "what are the figures?" Then,
if it is not signicantly higher than 140/80 - "what are the symptoms?" If
there are no headaches, or dizziness, etc el, I try to r e-assure them - if
they let me.

Hi Joy,
Do you give the 6c, watch what happens, then repeat as needed, if needed?
Or is the accumulation more of an issue with the Mother tincture--several
drops a day, each day, for a number of weeks?
Thanks so much for the information...I really appreciate it!

Hi Steve,
I agree with what you're saying here, and I'm also wary about "buying in" to
this patient's doctor-influenced concern with this symptom. Certainly
discussing the symptoms could work to calm him down, and I will try to do
that before using the potentized cretag, or any of the tinctures
recommended.
Thanks for your suggestion and reminder

Re: Need some information on High Blood Pressure Sx
Dear Nancy, I generally let the individual case guide towards choice. If it
is the only remedy being used I am probably more likely to give the drops on
a daily basis or every other day for a period of time, watching all the
time. In more acute cases it might need to be given throughout the day or as
long as it takes. If it is being used as an organ support, alongside another
remedy I am more likely to give it as 6c occasionally, say once or twice a
weak, also watching carefully.
I do agree with what Steve said though, the BP you quoted did seem
relatively ok. Is it still rising, is there any other reason that it might
be rising, say e.g. certain foods in the diet, extra stress or ??
There is a recognisable emotional picture to this remedy and that is usually
an irritable and nervous one, they rush around and there is accompanying
weakness. Sleep comes with difficulty.

I'd also look at his diet.
Often hbp can be controlled simply by measures such as increasing fruits and
veggies -- potassium foods. And of course some people do better with less
salt (but others *need* lots of salt...).

Just to note re cretaegus -- it is also used as food, and as I understand,
there is no risk whatever to using the tincture. I sometimes give it to my
kids, and they do very nicely with it. (Presumably it doesn't bring their
blood pressure down, as they don't need that! It's a "normalizer", not a
drug.)
