Thrush -recurrent
Any ideas for recurrent thrush? Patient, female, 44, phosphoric
constitution, married, three children, no history of pill or any hormonal
intervention, has IUD fitted (not the hormone variety). Aware of
nutrition, sticks to organic foods, drinks filtered water. Slightly
overweight (1st). Has been on various treatments, including allopathy
(Diflucan, Canesten, Nystatin), acidophillus and diet (Hay diet).
Tried homoeopathic treatment when the above failed to give long term relief.
Has had homoeopathic treatment for the past four years with limited
success for her thrush. Homoeopathy has however cured her hayfever and
PMS!
She came to me because the thrush now comes back monthly - (just after her
ovulation and leading up to her menses) and her previous homoeopath has
given up on her (or she has given up on him!). Patient is chilly, better
for rest, better for creative activities, loves art and books but is not
interested in vigorous exercise. Thirstless, no particular food likes or
dislikes, but has reported an increase in her carb intake especially bread.
Any thoughts hugely welcome!!!

Re: Thrush -recurrent
For what it's worth, the increase in carbs is probably directly related with
the recurrent thrush to some extent -- candidiasis, related somewhat to high
carbs in diet (not the only consideration, of course.)

I sorted a difficult one with Hydrastis low. Check it out. It was also indicated befcause of the catarrh the patient had.

Re: Thrush -recurrent
Oh bless Rochelle, she's had that too - hydrastis in tincture, also low (at
different times). She also had borax, candida in potency, sycotic co ... I
think the previous homoeopath was at his wits' end with her and threw at her
whatever came handy!
Seriously, I have most of the previous prescriptions, but it wouldn't hurt
to re-visit some of them I guess.
When you say Hydr low, how low and how often??
Thanks!

Thanks Rosemary
I thought of that and it's a bit of a vicious cycle - more carbs, more food
for the candida, more thrush. I feel I need to address her candida problem
before I start pontificating about her cutting down on carbs!

Re: Thrush -recurrent
Just checked and it wasn't that low!!! I gave her a 30C split dose which she repeated once a fortnight later when it started to return. That was the end of it. She is probably a constitutional Puls. as she sometimes needs this in a 200C.

Now that is interesting - Sounds a good idea to me: split dose Hydr then
another to hold, in case... And phos high for her constitution - it may
just work!
Thanks Rochelle, you're a gem

Re: Thrush -recurrent
One thing, this means that the immune system is compromised. Normally the
immune system (which includes the bacterial "flora" of gut, mouth, etc.)
would hold yeasts in check. Which suggests to me that either the apparently
successful remedies did not go "deep enough" to really finish the job,
and/or there is a "maintaining cause", possibly diet, possibly environmental
stresses or lifestyle???
Just thoughts...
So I'd start by examining two areas:
- Do you see anything in the diet, lifestyle, environment to suspect, and
- Were the apparently successful remedies really doing all you could want,
or are there clues to areas that aren't being quite covered, which could be
clues to a better-fitting remedy?

Has she had allergy testing, both dietary and environmental?
My understanding is that "usually" the "right remedy" will eliminate garden
variety allergies, and should thus handle the thrush, but I also seem to
understand that sometimes the allergen becomes an obstacle to cure and needs
to be avoided at least for a time.

Re: Thrush -recurrent
Dear Eleana,
Merc comes thru strongly.
In Boger's
Apthae + appetite increased =
2ant-t,5bry,6chin,3lach,8merc,5natm,3nuxm,5nuxm,
4sep,4sil,4staph,7sulph
Eliminating the Rx with 4 and 3 grades in aversion to
bread,we get
antt,bry,merc,nuxm,sil,staph
Chilly in chronic state is merc, thirstless is Merc,
periodicity tho
in 1 grade only, lazy is merc.
If you have aggs and amels other than what you have
stated, sil and
staph can also be analysed. ( I believe that the Prac
would have tried merc and borax first)
The rubric mind: Carefulness and cares, full of, run
thru this Px. Silicea
will be a contender here.
