The main centers of action of this remedy are skin and
liver.

The most important feature of its skin sympoms is
severe itching in the absence of eruptions. Itching is
usually associated with liver dysfunctions like
hepatitis. It is one of the remedies indicated in
jaundice with itching esp at nights.

'Despair and suicidal tendencies from pruritus.'

'Sleeplessness associated with liver problems.'

HOMŒOPATHIC MATERIA MEDICA

A right-sided medicine, with pronounced liver and skin symptoms. A
general intense itching without eruption. Exalted nervous sensibility.
Senile pruritus. Hæmorrhoidal diathesis.

Throat.--Pain in throat, worse swallowing, below right angle of jaw, as
if splinter were imbedded vertically. Pain in gums prevents sleep.

Abdomen.--Colic from getting feet wet. Constipation, with intense
itching; bloated abdomen. White stools. Swelling of liver.
Hæmorrhoids, with burning sensation.

Skin.--Intense itching, with no swelling or rash; worse across
shoulders, also about elbows and knees and hairy parts.

Jaundice. Yellow in spots; itching excessively at night. Herpes zoster
(Ars).
Modalities.--Worse, at night, scratching, right side.

Relationship.--Compare: Rhus; Bell; Hep; Nit ac; Fagopyr.

Dose.--Sixth potency. Tincture, drop doses, in hæmorrhoids.

G Cold water burns on the itching skin.
P [Upper] gums extremely sensitive during dentition;
gums seem to itch [wants them continually rubbed].
Worse Night.
P Pain in [right side of] throat, as from a splinter.
Sensation as if a splinter were embedded vertically below the angle of the right lower jaw; pain worse swallowing.
P Constipation & itching during pregnancy or dentition.
Abdomen bloated, swollen.

From Journal 'The Homoeopathician' 1911 a paper on persistence in potency

Recently an obstetric patient complained of severe itching several days before confinement. Her symptoms pointed to ???????, which I had never used. Searching through my case, I found a vial of ????????? 1m, which had been corked twenty-six years ago and never opened since.
She received a few powders thereof, and her pruritus, which had persisted. several days, vanished at once.

I had a ????????? case which had this tremendous itching without eruption, it would come on mostly at night. He would take off his shirt, would get on his motorcycle and would drive it about a hundred miles an hour down the roads, with the wind blowing against the skin. That vibration was the only thing that seemed to help, because the scratching had no effect. It is like an itch in your ear: you can't reach any place to scratch it. Now imagine that over your whole body ...

A case (where this remedy did not work)

Infective hepatitis (jaundice) (Dr. S. R. Wadia)

...................As there was no improvement in the general condition except fever, on 18th June, Nux Vom 200 3 doses were taken because there was ineffectual urge for stool, indigestion still persisted, nausea at times, tenderness of liver and desire for warm drinks. The stool improved but a new symptom appeared - which was intense itching of the skin. In Kent's Repertory only one remedy Hepar Sulph is given which was taken to no effect. In some of my cases, this remedy had helped. As such ??????? 30 was taken 3 times a day with which itching was not reduced. Chelidonium Maj Q was taken as an Organ remedy for the first 5 days. As there was not much improvement Nux Vom 1 m. (3) doses were taken on 23rd June. I started feeling better within a week's time. Itching was still persisting. So Myrica 30 was taken which also did not help.
On 7.7.78- started feeling better. Appetite improved Urine had cleared up. The blood report was better. As such, no remedy was taken.
On 12.7.78- The blood report has come to normal now but itching was still persisting though less.

On Sulphur 200 3 doses put a finishing touch to everything and itching vanished too. In my case too, duration of illness was 3 to 4 weeks.
