Re: Oleum j

Post by Joy Lucas »

Being a '50's baby I, (along with many others of my generation) was given
cod liver oil on a regular basis. I can still taste it now - yuk. It was
seen as a nutrient and was ladled out by the newly formed NHS to post war
babies and children to boost their resistance to ill health from lack of
nourishment and the prevalence of tuberculosis.

Oleum jecoris aselli has an affinity to the liver, pancreas and tendons (no
wonder I developed gall stones in my 20's). Also as above - tuberculosis and
ringworm + thyroid (the oil contains Iodine), atrophy of babies, whooping
cough (+ tickling or hacking cough with yellow expectoration) and chronic
rheumatism.

So mainly but not exclusively a tubercular remedy.

It has abnormal hair growth (which has been discussed lately in connection
with polycystic ovaries) and it also establishes menses, ovaries are sore.

Overall development might be delayed or faulty and linked to nutrition.
Weak, thin, under-developed children who are always getting colds. Cannot
tolerate milk.

Everything is yellow, like the oil.

Very chilly remedy but there are burning sensations as well. Very sensitive
to cold and damp.

The appearance of fever usually >>> other sx.

The main mental sx are those to do with excitability and usually accompany
the fever stage. When fever is absent many of the fears and anxieties are
similar to other tubercular rx - namely Phos.

Great remedy.

Thanks Joy!
Is this a remedy you've had occasion to use (in potency, I mean!)? Does the
scanty information mean that it would usually be used in low potency, or not
necessarily?

Dear Shannon, I only ever used it once on a very sick little child who was
failing to thrive, slightly jaundiced and had poor skin, wouldn't take any
kind of milk. I gave it in 6c, repeated daily. But the parents chose not to
come back, they were under pressure from health visitors etc, and so I never
knew the outcome, they never even phoned.

I don't really think the information is scanty - just very specific. I like
remedies like this, you know where you are with them, there is little room
for interpretation.

The MM's suggest the actual oil for ringworm, I would probably tend to stick
to low potencies (LM's and up to 12c) for the general malaise, perhaps 30's
for the cough, higher or LM's for the fevers etc. So I would imagine that
all the potencies would be applicable depending on the case and the
prescriber's methods.

Meant also to add that Elizabeth Wright Hubbard suggests this rx (amongst
others) for babies born with excessive hair on the face
