range of potencies

Post by cmbyrd50 »

could someone please take the time to explain how the potencies go
from very low to high - for instance LM, X, C, M's
Break it down for me please. I need to see it that way to fully
understand it. thanks again, Colleen

Hi Colleen,
X potencies are diluted at a ratio of 1:9; the number before the X tells you
how many times the dilution was done.
C potencies are diluted at a ratio of 1:99.
M is a sub-group of C. A 1M was diluted at a ratio of 1:99 (it is a C
potency), 1000 times (which is where the M comes from); 10M was so diluted
10,000 times.
LM is a different sort of scale, and dilution ratio and dosage are more
complicated, but is roughly 1:50,000.

Hope that helps,
Shannon

Thank You Sahnnon, I'm really trying to understand more about Homeopathy. I've been connected with it for many years but just let my Homeopath do it and now I want to know more about myself and my animals. So I'm reading. Boy you guys the way you talk is like a foreign language to me but I'm getting there. doing allot of reading.

So to make this more clear - in range, first comes LM's, then X, C, and then M's. don't understand how M's are really C's but I guess I'll get it eventually.

Well.... What do you mean by "in range"?
LMs are more diluted than the others, and are in some ways like low
potencies, in other ways like high potencies... They are as powerful as
high potencies, but as gentle as low -- BUT if misused, can cause (or so I
am told) even worse problems than misuse of high potencies, so are not
really appropriate for beginners, despite their (usually) gentleness. So I
would not put them with "low" or with "high", but separate.

The reason M is really a C...
Well, another way to write 1M, would be 10,000c. But that's unweildy, so
it's instead written 1M. (See? the M = 10,000...)

The difference between X and C is the ratio of dilution -- 1:10 (or 9) vs.
1:100 (or 99). The potencies labelled with M are part of the 1:100 scale,
*not* part of a separate scale, as it first appears...

Does that make sense?
:-)

Been reading the Organon on line. http://www.simillimum.com/
http://www.homeoint.org/books/hahchrdi/hahchr00.htm
I have to get a Materia Medica somewhere. I've been looking.
You got any good ones in mind? I just got a book by Catherine Coulter and it's the personality types - got that from http://www.minimum.com/index.htm It's where she brings them to life rather than how it sounds in the MM. Good reading. Since I'm a Phosphorus It was nice reading about me in a different way.

Actually the 1M equals 1000 C
The M = 1000

Likewise CM = 100,000 C
and MM = 1,000,000 C
