Hi rochelle. My apologies for the lengthy herbal pressentation. I know that the language is dissimilar. There is no issue as to the pharm. action. It is beautifully defined by pharmacists. It does infer an improvement to the function of memory; however, it also presents with long term usage adverse affects upon the soma. The adverse action is observable in the *skin*. This is notwithstanding the fact that she may have sustained memory with its use. The affect is upon the blood & vascular tissue and notably with respect to its flow. The impediment is what we refer to as phlegm (think of humidity). It impairs action. Once the remedy resolves the impediment, if the remedy is continued, one might then observe the expressions of wind-heat coursing outward. Wind merely infers movement. It is an expression of heat. Whether this is the case is for you to ascertain as you know the case. However, as we sit at this table and collaborate on this your case I wish to add information to your file respecting the herbal use; its inappropriateness for the purpose intended; and the possible adverse affects which the pt. is manifesting. Knowing the case you will determine whether it is an adverse reaction or an outward clearing of an issue.
Pleasantry and regards

Re: off topic roscacea case
Thank you for your explanation but I find it difficult to understand because
I am not trained in these wind-heat type expressions.
I do understand that you are trying to tell me that she should not be taking
the ginkgo for too long. Have you any idea what skin affections it
manifests? Also you mention the Phlegm. Do you mean discharge from the
lungs or something else?

Most generally in oriental medicine we use the words which identify
environmental factors for their common understanding of conditions to which
they refer. Wind=movement; Heat=promotes action; Cold=stagnation;
Dryness=consumes; Humidity(dampness)=impairs actions. When these actions
occur from an organism we refer to these as pathogenic factors.
The precaution noted in the use of the herb is when there exist, in part,
skin issues. The specificity of its reflection would be dependent upon the
organism at issue, and would be consistent with your assessment of the
totality of symptoms.
The herb has reflection upon the fluid, blood, and the vascular tissue.
Herbal medical application is for the purpose of binding and stabilising
with reflection within the Lung and Kidney systems. It is intended to treat
conditions of wheezing; phlegmic coughing; stops vaginal discharge and
prurulent urine; incontinence.
If used in excess it may produce spasm and heat. Heat may vent through the
skin as a toxic action. Whether this is the case with your pt. is in your
perview as physician in interpreting the totality of the picture. However,
it is of noteworthiness that your pt. has been using this herb as a pharm.
for a long term, and is manifesting what *could* be an inappropriate action.
The issue which is attended by the herb is part of the totality and is
better addressed in some other manner.
I would hope to encourage whatever dialogue is necessary so as to develope
some better understanding regarding medicines that are available, used by
our patients, and not necessarily correctly nor of our respective paradigm.
Pleasant regards

Dear Isali,
I think I am beginning to wonder if the improvement of the rosacea came
about after she stopped taking the Ginkgo. We then have to consider what is
worse - no rosacea and no memory or rosacea and her memory back!! Now
naturally the latter is preferable!! But that is with the Ginkgo!! I am go
to leave it at the moment and see if the Rad Brom 100C does anything.
