rochelle's case of Ank. Spond.

Post by Joy Lucas »

Dear Rochelle, ideas about your case.

Apologies to others reading this as they might be confused - Rochelle posted
her case to me privately and will be posting it to the group soon. I am
replying now as I won't have time later.
I would be thinking about APIS for this case:-

very busy all the time, always have to be doing something (which is
definably different from restless, which you say she isn't

very strong sense of tidyness and placement

fear of being alone

tendency to be jealous and suspicious but loyal and dutiful to one sexual
partner

swellings >>> cold, extreme cold
painfully stiff, especially neck, ankles, knees, hands, fingers

painful and stinging constipation, haemorrhoids

not thirsty

likes air, are often fanning themselves

+ considerations of a rheumatic type fever in the background

Best wishes, Joy

Thanks Joy. That would have been my first choice if the knee had looked like
an Apis oedema which it didn't!! Correct, me if I am wrong but if Apis I
would have expected to see a knee that was red, hot, shining and looking as
if it would burst. This swelling was pliable and the fluid could be pushed
around.
Puls came top in my rep for her symptoms but was not in my rep for her
condition not that this has ever bothered me!!

Murphy - Diseases
ANKLOSING spondylitis (10)
3 AESC, 1 agar, 2 arg-m, 1 caust, 1 cimic, 2 con, 1 kali-c, 3 KALM, 2 nat-m,
2 rhus-t

Rochelle

Dear Rochelle,

A few more points then:-

she has been on steroids which would mask a number of sx - or a least change
them and quite considerably at that

secondly, Apis doesn't have to be red, hot and fiery all the time - quite
the opposite, in fact, legs can be waxy and pale and oedematous (Clarke)

thirdly - oh please don't put too much on repertorising by disease name -
this can be so unreliable not to say unhomeopathic especially with a Dx of
AS which could also be PMR, or even RA. Occasionally checking with these
sort of rubrics can be of service to confirm but by no means always and
should be at the bottom of the hierarchy and not at the top.

Regards, Joy

Don't worry Joy I don't, but it is nice if it there somewhere. The Puls I
gave wasn't featured.

Dear Rochelle
Apis has two kinds of edema one is the one you have described the other is a painless puffy edema which pits on pressure. At present the symptoms do look like Apis. and I feel it should be given. But Apis is not a very deep acting remedy and you will have to think of something more deep acting later.
Another medicine may be Led-pal.

Thanks Elham and Joy. I was not aware of the other type of oedema in Apis
but thanks to you I am now!! I don't do LM's but do WP. She is on a regular
anti inflammatory so will probably get her back in a month, assess the
situation and give her Apis 200 pillule + WP daily which I seem to be into
at the moment!! Will have a good read at Apis M & E before that.(Unless
anyone else has an Rx ideas)

Rochelle

Rochelle,
I would not repeat any remedy 200 c daily.
You can repeat the lower potencies, but it is usually not a good idea to
repeat higher ones, like 200c.
If you think she needs a daily dose, use LM, or 6, or 12, even 30 is a lot
for dosing more than a few days in a row.

I am happy you do not go by the name of the disease because this is a most ridiculous list given in Murphy. It should at least have cantained medicines like Med. Syph. Tub. Ac-ph. Sulp. Sil etc. that have actually cured this condition.
I would again suggest try Apis first before giving anything else.

By the way in the olden days when diseases were not so minutely differentiated, Ankylosing spondylitis, kyphosis, scoliosis, lardosis etc were all reperterized under the rubric curvature of spine. Something you might use next time in your reperterization.
