Has anyone done any research on internet list theft or copyright laws?

And if it were theft, and someone receives it and is paid to post it, are they being paid to receive "stolen property". And if there were a "middle man" in there.............OK, you can tell I'm having a good time with this one.
Would the list become "a Black Market List".
